I loved the movie as-is. Any extra scenes will just make it better.

1-I don't remember if the comic did it exactly like this, but it was perfect; he went down fighting, and I LOVE how they intercut it with him remembering past fights he had in the golden age

2-Rorschach should have butchered them all

How is anyone comparing that to the original scene in the novel? Sure, it's not god-awful, but there's just something off-pitch about it. Still soulless, if you ask me. The music almost ruined it.

We'll see how it fits with the rest of the film, but I'm not really impressed.

@Asen: I am with you - the music, the slow-mo, everything adds up to make it overly sentimental and manipulative, something the graphic novel certainly was not.

I think the movie could have been a whole lot better if they had done a better job casting all the supporting characters. So many of them were absolutely terrible actors. Case in point... the Top Knots in this scene. Jesus, did they just get out of acting school?

That was terribly sad and moving. This one scene captured much of the essence of the original. For those who thought that the film was terrible from beginning to end, it will not save anything. For people like me who thought that it was good but not quite great, this scene is a real improvement.

I really missed having more of Hollis in the film. The excerpts from his book defined the way the heroes were in the old days.

It never makes any sense to me when they cut good scenes out of a movie just for time, especially when it is a very long movie.

Wow. That was actually pretty damn heart-wrenching. Seeing him remember fighting actual villains and not just petty thugs... For all the crap that that movie turned out to be, Snyder nailed this scene for what it needed to be.

See, kids, this is why ROACH exists. Superheroes deserve to be taken out heroically, not years later by random thugs. There's no glory in that.

And this makes the ending less stupid how? This makes dragging out the death of The Comedian---like all the other "Synder-ized action sequences---no longer a mistake in what way? And I'm pretty sure it doesn't make the script or Malin Ackerman's performance any better, so no, a single scene cannot save a film. That's like saying the proper deck chair arrangement could have saved the Titantic.

I can't bring myself to watch this. Hollis' death in the book upset me so badly I had to stop reading and couldn't pick it back up in nearly a month. I was actually relieved when I heard it'd been cut.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the director's cut will be the version we all wanted it to be, anyway. I blame studio meddling to cram in more showings.

Still, I'll be waiting until x-mas to get the sooper-ultra-mega-deluxe edition.

@TemporalSword: Actually, the running time was cut to fit IMAX constraints. An IMAX film can not run longer than 2 hrs 38 min. or so. This is what set Dark Knight's running time, and all other films than wish to have an IMAX showing.

@Meredith Woerner: See, now, having a giant, dead squid pop up in Manhattan would have totally taken me out of the moment and made me giggle. I thought the re-worked ending was fine for the medium.

@TemporalSword: I felt the reworked ending could have been fine, but we needed to get a better sense of the carnage and loss. Without the fight near the climax between all those characters we've come to know, without the newsstand man hugging the comic reading boy, without Laurie's line about tandoori to go... you pretty much need all that for the destruction to mean anything, squid or no squid.

@TemporalSword: Totally - the squid ending would have been too freaky and out of left field. It was too freaky even for the comic book. I liked this ending much more - it was more logical and sane.

@TemporalSword: Definitely too much effort. Moreover, if you have a longer film in non-IMAX theaters, it undercuts some, though not all, of the motivation to see the film on an IMAx screen (which has a higher ticket price and presumably a higher cut ot the studio). It is money that drives the running time - though lately with the IMAX constraint, it is no longer the need to get more showings per evening in a regular theater.
