That was beautiful. What an exemplary short! I wasn't paying much attention, but the tight setting and stark narrative really drew me in. My head was going in loops trying to parse what was happening. :)

Hope to see more fine uses of time travel in short films on io9!

Lovely. I'm always impressed by clever, intelligent sci-fi shorts that prove you don't always need flashy special effects to tell a story.

I do have a question, about short films in general. I can't imagine they're sold for a profit, except in little bundle DVDs. So where's the money from? Do production companies have contests, or do universities sponsor them?

@ThisDudeRufus: Believe it or not, some people just make and pay for things for the love of the art even if they take a financial loss.

There are also, often grants and the like that fund them. Some countries like Canada, socialist monsters that they are, actually give filmmakers money to do these kind of things.

A waste if you ask me. In the good old US of A if we have a trillion dollars lying around we'll just give it to those who deserve it, the starving corporations.

For some reason (which I won't spoil) this reminds me of the book (not the movie) "The Day After Tomorrow". A fantastic book which is now I belive not in print, nor ever made into a movie, both of which are totally surprising.

Just thought I'd pass that along in case anyone stumbles across it. Read it.

@Grrsn Dn: I read that book in High School for a book report. I was surprised to even find it there in the library...it was one of the oldest books there.

It's "real" title is "Sixth Column", according to the Wikipedia.

And its premise sounds like it could potentially be so relevant to today's America and its potential future rival powers, I wouldn't be surprised if someone in Hollywood did eventually dig up this gem for a movie.

@Erinaceus: actually, I hadn't read that one, but looking at it, it looks quite good.

I was referring to a different one by Alan Folsom, which is not as old, and is such a beach read book that I'd be worried about your highschool if you read it for a book report.

thanks for the book recommendation though I'll look for it.
