    And in other news, BABIES CAN CHOKE ON BREAD!

    Forget Tunguska, when did io9 become so alarmist? :P

    Phil says it was close (see here: [blogs.discovermagazine.com]) but still a "clean miss".

    The diameter of the Earth is 7926.41 miles.

    That's mean it missed us by about 5 Earths.

    That is fucking close.

    @Grey_Area: Well, it's Canada so I wouldn't hold your breath unless you expect a satellite whittled out of a natural growth tree and held together by syrup to work.

    @Garrison Dean: And put in orbit with a giant rubber band slung between the antlers of an astromoose.

    It appears the launch has been pushed back to sometime in 2010.

    The decline of the Sugar Maple may doom us all to a fiery doomful doom, by fire.

    @Grey_Area:Hee. Astromoose. But I don't get where these admittedly amusing stereotypes of a technically inept Canada come from. I mean, come on, the Canadarm? That big thing the space-shuttle uses all the time, and updated versions of which are *building the space station* right now? The name "Canadarm" ain't a coincidence!

    @ParryLost: Truly meant no offense. I find the conceit of a working space program made from woodsy resources far more sensible and funnier to the US's wasteful methods.

    You also have the superior national anthem hands down. and now...

    Pshhh. Yeah, cause Tunguska was an asteroid. WHATEVER!!! Way to continue the cover-up "scientists" or should I say "The Man". And io9 you should be ashamed of yourselves for helping them. What's next? An article about weather balloons and swamp gas? You changed.

    @Garrison Dean:Everyone knows Tunguska was a space-ship from a parallel time dimension where everything happens in reverse. It exploded several days before it arrived, while the crew was investigating the epicentre of a strange forest fire in Siberia whose cause they could not determine.

    @ParryLost: That's crazy talk.

    Refer to Ockham's Razor: The simplest explanation tends to be the right one. Therefore, the Tunguska Blast was caused by an unauthorized test of Nikola Tesla's Death Ray.
