    @Gearhead_42: They always toss a second shuttle onto the pad for trips to the Hubble. The ISS can't be used as a safehaven if something goes wrong because it's too far away, so a second shuttle has to be on standby in case of a need for a rescue mission.

    Can you imagine what an incredibly strange experience it is to be floating like this, in actual space?

    I think about that a lot.

    I also ate a lot of 'shrooms a while back and I'm thinking maybe that had something to with it.

    The night launch in high definition on HDNet was breathtakingly beautiful. 1080i and clear as can be from several different angles.


    The camera mounted on the external booster is "only" SD, but seeing the rockets firing, part of the shuttle, and the curve of the earth is awesome.


    Sometimes they show the landings too, from the cockpit and from the outside.


    HDNet and HDNet Movies are channels that do not get nearly enough credit for the utter coolness of stuff they do.

    @snowcrash: He's actually funding it more than any other administration. The shuttles are being replaced by the Ares rocket and Orion Module for ISS visits.
