There's one insurmountable obstacle: James Mason. Mason owned the role like no other. Mason is Nemo, he defines Nemo. Anyone who takes on that role has a very high standard to rise to.

It's also worth remembering, as much as we decry the perils of special effects, part of what made the original Disney version so good was the effects, ones that, with a few exceptions, can still stand up today.

I'll see how T4 comes out before becoming too negative about this one. Although, I'd rather see both of them handled by someone with a real name.

Verne wrote more than one novel including Nemo, but I think the second one came after 20,000 Leagues, and Nemo wasn't exactly a flattering role in it. ( I have NOT read it. )

MAYBE THEY WILL REOPEN THE 20,000 LEAGUES RIDE AT THE MAGIC KINGDOM!!!

YES that was worth all-caps. That ride was fantastic. Submarines! And... submarines! Okay, I don't really remember it, because I was like 7 when they shut it down for "repairs," but the poor submarines and the giant squid have just been languishing under a pool of water in what is now Ariel's Grotto ever since...

@Elizabeth Weinbloom: Sorry, but that little island of Victorian Sci-Fi bliss is now Finding Nemo, not Captain Nemo.

@Elizabeth Weinbloom: The ride eventually got taken out, THEN left to rot in abandoned yards. A website on it, with history and some really amazing and sad photos, is here.

I believe it's supposed to be a prequel, not a remake... though that doesn't do much to ease my fears.

I read that this is a PREQUEL- NOT a remake.

So maybe that will shut up the maroons that whine about remakes all the time on here.

    Nah, I doubt it.

@Meredith Woerner: Baby giant squids are cute, they can't let Baby Captain Nemo fight one in his Baby Nautilus!

If they try to go the Pirates of the Caribbean route with this, I will be very upset. Chewing fiberglass and shitting out Hummel figures upset.
