Black Lightning looks cool!! Its like Spiderman with cars!

Thank god for films like Nightwatch and Daywatch. Russian films rock!

Anyone got any news on Duskwatch?? I heard Tarrrantino (the guy who originally pushed for the western releases), was bringing the whole production team and cast over to Hollywood for the third and final instalment. I hope thats the case.....the effects already rocked. Just dont let Lucas get hold of it!

Telepathy looks like a book I read, not the Heinlein one. Really want to see it. The Russians have been putting out some stellar Sci-fi recently, or at least recently in that I have been hearing more about them.

@Bigdamnhero: I've seen this. It came out on BD ages ago in the UK. Bret's hardly in it, Rhys Darby is in the opening/closing sequence and Jemaine hardly has anything to do.

Its just being sold on them making cameos and they're not even principal characters. Its really about a teacher who likes to shag students.

@shaunmcilroy: Definitely the plot to this movie. Oh and there are ghosts floating around the place... But generally just the Teacher trying to bonk the student girl.

@Bigdamnhero: There are some moments of chuckleworthy applause but they're few and far between. (read: Rhys Darby's scenes which are just Murray).

Netflix, (or LOVEFilM it for the UK) and don't expect anything great out of this as the plotholes are bigger than the chunk the iceberg took out of Titanic.

    So in order.

    Diagnosis Death looks great.

Black lightning looks like the dumbest fucking movie I have ever seen.

I'm sorry, a Gothic choral soundtrack and a bunch of special effects is not going to distract me from the fact that I am watching the dumbest possible Russian version of Grease. Really, a flying car?

    Telepathy looks interesting.

    Iep looks adorable.

Wow! Kenadie Jourdin (from the IEP trailer) looks amazing and so healthy! I am so happy for her and her family. I certainly didn't expect her to pop up as an actress. She's awesome. Go her.

Crime Stinks can't be any worse than a lot of this summer's block busters.

Who would be the criminal masterminds? The McPoyles?

I've got a crazy idea...some insane company creates a genetically modified corn. Then that corn spreads everywhere and, consequently, anyone who has their corn growing on their land has to pay a fine. Thus spawning a financial apocalypse.

NAHHH!!! That's too outlandish. No one would ever buy the premise.

@Klebert L. Hall: Yeah. That actually lent credence to the whole premise in the first place. Why would advanced aliens hide warships on Earth in the first place? Because the needed hemoglobin. And lots of it.

I got Queen City Jazz from a garage sale when I was 12 or so, I love the shit out of that book and possibly moreso becuse it is set in Cincy so it was familiar. I never read the others though so I am taking a trip to Barnes to get them.

Minority Report is still one of my favorite movies, it was just fantastic though there were some off parts but I feel the same way about A.i.

Ribofunk, by Paul Di Filippo... not exactly a biotech apocalypse, but it's got some concepts that I still can't get out of my head, years after reading it.

I would like to order a stampeding herd of carnivorous, genetically engineered cows with a side of man-eating, Seymour-type killer plants. Medium well, please. Oh, and a nice Red wine with the meat-eating cowpocolypse, thankyouverymuch.

Disappointing as it was, the made-for-TV remake of The Andromeda Strain had an interesting idea along the lines that you're referring to. Not quite as exciting as some of the suggestions you made, though.

In reply to Why The World Needs A New Space: 1999
Space: 1999 has not aged well at all. The science is insurmountably bad, the acting wooden and the premise hilarious. It had great sets, some good special effects and a half-decent spaceship design in the Eagle, but without the filter of childhood nostalgia it's simply not that great a show.

Anderson's previous show, UFO, had a much stronger premise (later 'borrowed' for the X-COM computer games), much more interesting characters and was better-written, as well as being extremely morally ambivalent a long time before the likes of BLAKE'S 7 (which is also far more deserving of a reboot/remake) showed up. Interestingly it is now being remade as a movie, apparently starring Joshua Jackson. Interesting to see how that goes.
