I'm glad my hometown can give people so many larp lolz. I remember when the news first broke a month or two ago. People around the office were giggling about it for days. :) ILU, Pittsburgh!
dude, you guys need to lay off the google ghost story. this pic was published a long time ago, it was just 2 dumb kids play samurai. oh god, io9? what has happened to you.
Dang. Last year I was smoking a cigarette outside work when the Googlemobile went pass and then again two days later outside my local bar. I was really hoping I could use the Street Views to show that I had a twin but they didn't use those shots.
This is one place where being a buzzkill may be even more fun than the actual story. The redorbit project mentioned by omgwtflolbbqbye is well worth checking out all the way through.
This is really, really, really old news. Wasn't Gizmodo the one who originally reported on this late last year/early 2009? This one happened before the half-ghost in Wales.
"because no contemporary woman would ever dress like this."
Clearly the expert quoted has never been to Cardiff, for as far as I was able to tell, there ain't much to do there except cosplay. To wit: this photograph I took at the Millenium Centre last month.
@Brine: I hope that the Google van drives through San Francisco next year during the Dickens Fair, so that we can have hundreds of "ghostly figures" in Street View.

Hm. Long coat. Absurdly long scarf. Mop of curly hair on top of the head...
All that's missing is a little robotic dog shaped like a toaster.

Invisible = Cool.
Smoking = Cool, except when Smoking = Kool.
Therefore:
Smoking anything except Kool = Invisible!
