In reply to Five Lessons To Have Learned From 2009 Already
I've just learned that almost 20 years after image comics was founded Liefeld still as no concept of proportions, dimensions, or even how to draw a gun despite the fact that he has all his characters holding one because he really really can't draw a hand. But if I ever need a pouch I know where to go.

Also, apparently Bishop has shrunk, removed the M from his face and is wearing button up shirts. Wait. That's not supposed to be Barack is it?

In reply to How Swine Flu Works, And Why It Kills
Can we agree as a nation to going back to calling it Swine Flu? It rolls of the tongue better and makes meat processors sweat uncomfortably, two wins in my book.

Plus, photos of toddlers licking alphabet blocks aren't as interesting as ones of them giving deep tongue to piglets. Err, chaste tongue, okay, pervs?

I realize I've lost the battle with "IEDs" instead of the perfectly functional, pre-existing "booby trap" but NOW is the time to make my stand, damn it!

I know it's become the common wisdom that Terminator Salvation and Watchmen failed, but if you look at the Box Office numbers they look pretty successful and that doesn't even include future DVD and other revenue streams.

Terminator Salvation had a $200m production budget but has grossed $323m worldwide so far:

Watchmen had a $130m budget but has grossed $182m worldwide.

These days I would call those good investments.

    @Michael Oder:

That's gross ticket revenue. What percentage goes the studio get, and what goes to the movie theatres?

Those TV commercials ain't free either and are not included in the "production budget". Don't forget about the internet viral marketers. "This the most awesome movie ever, you gotta see it"

@Michael Oder: Generally, a movie has to gross 2 to 3 times its budget to make a profit. Neither of these are even close.

That picture of the baby licking the pig's snout is just.... wrong.

The adult whose birkenstock appears near the bottom right corner should be ashamed of him/her self for allowing that licking to happen.

And, no, I'm not a prune. I just believe in a modicum of hygiene. Do you know where that pig snout has been?

It amazes me how clueless some people are in regards to other animals. Here are two examples:

Pet python kills Florida toddler (July 2nd, 2009)

    Pet jungle cat

    [page.olesiafx.com]

I love the way the jungle cat looks at and licks the other (regular) cat. Also, the chaos left over by the jungle cat's chicken kill. Imagine when that couple has a baby and the jungle cat thinks the baby is just a weird-looking chicken...

I also have the thought that the medical comapanies will make out like bandits as they are already theiving us with ultra-high costs of health.

yes we do have a lot of diseases that could be controlled with a little effort and some extra generosity.

i think that we really need to have a long look at the whole medical industry and why the costs of treatment are as high as they are...........

prices should be fair for all concerned

@gorehound: problem with this reasoning is that you assume we live in a time medical break throughs are just stumbled upon. time was you found mold and pennicilin, now it takes millions to Research and develop drugs to treat things that in the past were untreatable.

@GreyHammer: The problem with that reasoning is that it presumes that all of a pharmaceutical company's revenues are poured back into R&D.

Of course, most pharma companies really do lose money on vaccinations--or, they don't make very much, at the least. So in this particular case, who's to say?

doesnt the regular flu have a higher mortality rate? am i wrong to assume it kills the already too young, too old, too weak demographic. a relatively healthy person will weather it with chicken soup and mountain dew as is our cure for such things. or did i huff that paint thinner for the vision quest of my people incorrectly?!

Do we have to find another way to abuse other animals? Besides, I'm pretty sure this will spread cross species illnesses faster than the currant "lonely night on the farm" method. This is a bad road to go down.
