Sci fi's not exactly known for hilarity -- if they balance it with a quality series, then okay. But the current schedule tips the scales towards mockery; I get why viewers are pissed. (Wrestling belongs on SoapNet, not SyFy.) #syfy

BUT... I've heard nothing but good from lots of people since then and really should rent the first season and play catch up. And I was already spoiled on the season 1 finale and that got me really intrigued to go watch it. It's on my Netflix queue. #television

I haven't seen the episode from tonight so I may be behind the curve. #sgu

Hobbit physics? Stupid.
Hobbit poker? Lame.
What really gets me, though, is the autistic-when-plot-demands kid. I can't stand Dylan.
On the other hand, Olivia is the kind of woman I'm attracted to and Nicole is just gorgeous, so there are still reasons for me to watch the show. #flashforward

A grown-up show is one that children don't WANT to watch because it deals with emotions and problems they don't understand, not one that is deemed "inappropriate" for them by their parents.
Examples:
Mad Men is a grown up show. True Blood is an adult show. SGU is not. So far I have not seen one one episode that feels "adult." What it feels like is a 14 year old's creative writing contest entry that attempts to be grown-up. Torchwood season 1 fell into the same trap. (It got much better by Children of Earth thankfully.) #sgu

To be completely honest, outside of the original movie, which I adore to pieces, I've never been a fan of Stargate. Any Stargate. I tried time and time again to give it ago but after a few episodes, I became bored with it and gave up. However, I like SG:U. Probably because I like less than heroic characters and more messed people which everyone on the show seems to be save for Eli. Even though he has his own moments in his own way. I like how this show character driven more than plot driven. And I actually like the slow pace. I don't want all the cards shown within the first three episodes. Especially not with this lot. There are too many issues to go through. I'd rather them not to have to deal with aliens attacking them or them going on glorious gung-ho missions every week. Instead, I want to see what happens when a bunch of people who don't like or more importantly trust each other are put in a situations where they need to depend on each other for their very lives..
Tonight's episode was a perfect example this. On paper, the plot is simple. People are getting sick. Scott discovers a cure. A time hiccup through the Stargate allows this information to get back to the right people before everyone starts getting sick in the first place. But what drove this story wasn't the plot but the characters. TJ's story. Eli's story. Rush's story. Even Greer teaching Eli how to fire was interesting to me. I want more character driven stories. I want to get to know these people. Even if I don't always like them. #sgu

I would kind of love it if SGU was just like "oh yeah psych." We played it like we were doing a dark "oh we're trapped so far from home thing." Instead it's a show about "Hey look at our awesome ship!!!!"
It'd be nice to see them not afraid to drop a game changer every now and again. If they could adopt the motto SGU where people really stay dead and we don't do the exact same thing as the last 12 seasons of the other shows all over again I'd be all in. #sgu

Besides Dollhouse, I've been an on-again/off-again viewer of Venture Bros., and I won't get into the current season until I watch (and make sense of) the entire preceding series. Unlike Dollhouse, it won't get canceled but it'll take 2 years for another season to roll out.

It actually manifests some drive and pace and you get enough of a hint of how it might have played out to keep you going until runs up to the unaired 13th episode 'Epitaph One' (also on the 4th disc as an extra).
It looks like there may be more of the good stuff coming up.
Glau's character's physical appearance [io9.com] gives a big hint as to where it might be going at the end and the recent viral [io9.com] (warning! contains my ludicrously speculative and possibly spoilery comment) hints as to the bigger backstory that's leading there.
With all but 2 of the remaining 9 already filmed [io9.com] , it'll be up to Whedon to pull out the stops for the finale.
To miss-quote the Dushku "If you've already failed, for fuck's sake fail big!". #television
