I thought it was really, really bad - not just stupid (why would any plants on a non oxygen based planet produce oxygen?? And even if they did, a few pot plants would never produce enough to sustain a human!!), but also commited the far worse crimes of being boring and having throughly unlikable characters. Oh, and the animation sucked. One to avoid IMO.

@ohoward: why would humans travel for several generations to a distant star, armed to the teeth when they've never encountered Alien life before?

@Johnny Dactyl: they were armed to the teeth because they were refugees of the war between earth, mars, and venus. did you even listen to the exposition?

@tetracycloide: yes but they continued to train for a war that didnt exist anymore, they collectively were the last humans alive, all on the same side with no enemy, surely they would have been better put to use keeping the ship in shape with parts from the war machines

It was Ok, but it had something missing. It also fudges many scientific facts while being spot on with others. Then again this is a movie for children so it is OK to gloss over some of the details. And Giddy was cool.

EH!! Did this bypass UK cinemas because I looked everywhere for this!! Obviously not far enough. Well....looks like im going to have to hope the DVD reviews are true and just before I go out and buy it. Asuming it even hits the UK DVD market!

this should be used as an example of the great leaps that have been made in CG animation in the last 30 years...

the digital characters here have achieved EXACTLY the same level of bland, stereotyped, ineptly conceived shittyness as their human co-stars.

There's Sparks, the friendly one, Skip, the mean one, Spike, the dumb one, and Razor, the female one.

Apparently, being a female is considered a description in and of itself.

@TemporalSword: To be fair, that's mostly me being snarky. Razor is the female one, but she's also described as obnoxious, determined and bent on world domination. She has as much individual personality as the other aliens, in other words.

wolverine is an underdog film? in what universe can a 100+ million dollar budget with several A-list stars be considered 'underdog.'

@tetracycloide: Several A-list stars? That's stretching things a bit. Jackman is A-list for sure. Liev Schreiber is a critical darling, but I wouldn't label him a star. Ryan Reynolds and Dominic Monaghan are B-list at best. After that you've got...?

That said, no, it should not be labeled an underdog. No film with fast food tie-ins should.

@Porcinema: apparently i need to bone up on my hollywood lingo because i have since posting learned that my concept of 'a list' is actually closer to a 'b+ list.' still, as you point out, the point stands the movie is marketed and budgeted out the ass. you can't play with a stacked deck and still be an underdog.

If it's an underdog movie how could it be a surprise flop too?

So if this film is 3D at the cinema, along with the likes of Monsters Vs Aliens, you have 2 options from what ive found out, you either watch it at an Imax cinema (here in the UK thats imposible were I live), or you go too the local cinema and watch it with 3D glasses....now thats all good and well, but if I just sat here and watched a completly cool 2D trailer, why oh why cant they just show regular fuckin 2D films alongside the crappy 3D ones that are arriving. I have a friend who cant take her kids to some children films this year because shes epileptic and affraid this type of filming may exhaserbate her condition!! (Please for the love of god correct me if im wrong).

Also wondering will we have to pay extra for the glasses or will they come as a freebie with the price of a ticket??

@CHUCK!! A.aaaa, saviour of the universe!: 3D movies play in many many more regular theaters than 3D. They look just fine in 2D.

They don't usually cause seizures any more than ordinary movies, but she could check with the local or national epilepsy charity/organization to get the facts.

Or you could take her kids to the movies and give her a few hours away from the monsters.
