All Denzel needs to take on Gary Oldman's Mad Max-style futuristic gang is his mighty bow and arrow. Take a better look at these new stills from The Book of Eli.

Eli takes place after tragedy has stuck the Earth and the land is now all burned to rubble. Denzel walks across what was formerly the U.S., spreading the word from his magical book. When he gets to Gary Oldman's gang, he has to fight off the power-hungry leader who wants his book. So that means there's going to be one massive scene-chewing showdown between these two, no doubt. And apparently Denzel prefers the bow and arrow as his weapon of choice. First person to photoshop Legolas' hair on Denzel wins the day! Eli will be in theater January 15th.

<![CDATA[Buckets of Spoilers for True Blood's Next Season, a Possible Villain for Spidey, and a Possible Star for Lobo]]> True Blood has a whole new cast of monsters, weirdos, and werethings. Rumor has it that Spider-Man 4 has its villain and Lobo its Mane Man. Catch more of V's pilot, plus Heroes, Lost, Book of Eli, FlashForward, and Chuck.

Spider-Man 4

MarketSaw claims they've gotten word that the Lizard will appear as the film's sole villain. Fact or wishful thinking? At this point, it falls into the category of unconfirmed rumor. Remember: Internet rumor = break out the salt shaker. [MarketSaw]

Lobo

Rumor has it that Clancy Brown is being strongly considered as the alien bounty hunter for Guy Ritchie's adaptation. Brown played the Kurgan in Highlander, and more recently creeped out Carnivale fans as Brother Justin Crowe. He's also well situated in the DC Universe, as he frequently voices Lex Luthor in DC's animated movies and shows. [Mania]

True Blood

Tons of spoilers have popped up for the new season. Who was responsible for Bill's sudden disappearance in the season finale? As the new season opens, we'll find Bill in the company of a sarcastic and extremely handsome vampire named Talbot, who will serve as a guide for Bill — and who happens to be lover to the vampire king of Mississippi. Also in Talbot's company is Olivia, an elderly woman with an oxygen tank who mistakes Bill for her son. Eggs may be gone gone, but Tara has a new man looking her way: a handsome bloodsucker named Franklin Mott. Like Bill, Franklin will be the overprotective sort and will quickly rescue Tara from a group of racist rednecks. And Eric has a new love interest as well, an unlikable Czech Fangtasia stripper named Yvette. Even Tara's mom might be looking for loving when she turns to Reverend Daniels for comfort and hugs him a little bit too long.

Last season, Sam went off to track down his biological family, and he manages to find it. In the first episode, he'll encounter Betty and Marvin, a couple living in Arkansas. After subduing their pitbull, Sam learns that his family, the Mickens clan, has a less than favorable reputation. Sam's brother, Tommy Mickens, works at the Tire Depot and is especially notorious for skipping out on his rent and owing money everywhere. When Tommy first meets Sam, he'll claim to be someone else, not realizing Sam is his brother. Apparently, we'll be seeing a good deal of Tommy's bare butt cheeks, which suggests he's a shapeshifter like Sam.

Jason's libido takes a hit during a rather disturbing sexual encounter. A pair of NYU veterinary students, Jen and Missy, will try to lure Jason into a menage a trois, but he's less than eager when he seems to see bullet holes in their heads. And we'll see more V addicts when a "gang of crazy white-trash bikers" rolls in, eloquently named "Coot's Fuck You Crew." The group, led by the thuggish Coot, takes turns stabbing and feeding on Bill to get high.

The season will also feature Jesus Valsquez, an extraordinary orderly with a kind heart (and, this being True Blood, he's not too hard on the eyes) [E!, EW, Spoiler TV]

Lost

Carlton Cuse tweeted yesterday evening that William Atherton has signed as a guest star. [Twitter via MoRyan on Twitter]

V

More clips from the pilot show more about the Vs and how life on Earth changes after the landing. [MovieWeb]

Entertainment Weekly has a promotional music video set to Muse's "Uprising" at the link. [EW]

Heroes

HRG has an interesting business lunch in "Once Upon a Time in Texas:"

[Spoiler TV]

And a promo still of the episode shows a sweet moment for our Hiro. [CBR]

In the ninth episode, "Brother's Keeper," we will see the continuation of Matt and Sylar's battle. Also, Samuel will begin to understand the extent of his powers as Tracy loses control of hers. [Spoiler TV]

And there's a casting call for the fourteenth episode, "Let It Bleed:"

[MR. NOZAWA] 50-60 Male. Japanese. Must speak fluent Japanese. Wise, dedicated restaurateur in DC. Sushi chef and owner is persuaded to close his doors for a loyal customer ... CO-STAR

[Spoiler TV]

FlashForward

A normal night of trick-or-treating turns truly spooky in a clip from "Scary Monsters and Super Creeps:"

[Spoiler TV]

Paula Newsome is joining the cast in early 2010 as a doctor. [EW]

Chuck

For the new season's tenth episode "Chuck versus the Tic Tac," the producers are looking for a Connie Britton-type (Britton played Sharon Gaines on Friday Night Lights) to guest star as Kathleen McHugh, a strong, sexy, independent woman. In that episode, we'll also encounter Colonel James Keller, who will appear in the present and in flashbacks, Stanley Fitzroy, and Alex Coburn. Keller is a career military man, but is casual and relatable. Fitzroy is a "shockingly short" geek, and Coburn is a tall, athletic Marine. [Spoiler TV]

Smallville

Tom Welling is smoking (no, literally) in the latest poster from CW. [Operation Save Clark Kent]

And we flashback to Krypton with Jor-El and Zod in these images from "Kandor." [Operation Save Clark Kent]

Executive producer Kelly Sounders revealed a bit about what fans can expect from the current season. Chloe's having a hard time trusting people during this season, but she may be developing a fiery passsion for one of the show's more charming characters. She'll also be getting more screentime this season and will be an integral part of the heroes' lives beyond being a simple sidekick. There's some idea that Clark is still getting some training from Jor-El at the fortress, but there hasn't been time to show it on screen. But Clark will be getting a "magnificent" power before long (flying?). As for Lois and Clark's coupledom, she says Lois will be a bit more hesitant about the relationship going in. Deferring to the Superman mythos, Lois won't learn Clark's secret, but the episode "Idol" will play with that idea. And Clark will be greatly affected in the episode "Pandora," when he witnesses her visions of the future and gets to see life through her eyes. Clark will meet Zod during the first nine episodes, and they won't trust each other, but the nature of their relationship will keep shifting as more information comes to life. Clark won't come face-to-face with Jor-El, but she says we should tune into the Kryptonian backstory episode "Kandor." [TV Guide]

Also, sometime in the season's first nine episodes, we'll see Clark flirt with the idea of wearing glasses. [TV Guide]

<![CDATA[Latest Book Of Eli Trailer Has Awesome End-Of-The-World Accessories]]> The post apocalyptic future is so bright, all the rag-tag survivors gotta wear shades. The latest trailer for the The Book of Eli looks like it was sponsored by Ray-Ban. Still Denzel Washington has no trouble throwing his machete around.

We're also going to have to point out the filter directors Albert Hughes and Allen Hughes decided to use. There is nothing light-handed about it, but it feels like it works. I'm excited to see Denzel kill a room full of ragged gangsters, but not so excited for this sunglasses fashion competition that's happening.

Official Synopsis:

A post-apocalyptic tale, in which a lone man fights his way across America in order to protect a sacred book that holds the secrets to saving humankind.

Eli will be out January 15th 2010.

<![CDATA[Denzel Acts Tough, Eliza Plays House And Doctor Who Treads Water In New Pics]]> Spoilers reveal all — like revelatory Book Of Eli stills and a 9 video. New Dollhouse promo pics take the show's title ultra-literally. Plus major Lost casting news. Plus Doctor Who, Fringe, FlashForward, Supernatural, Smallville, V, Heroes and Eastwick spoilers!

The Book Of Eli:

A few new stills show Denzel stalking the shattered post-apocalyptic landscape in his dark brooding sunglasses. [SpoilerTV-Movies]

9:

Here's a new TV spot, called "The Count":

Lost:

There's a casting call for the first two episodes of the final season — they're seeking an actor to play Jeff, a polished and sympathetic public relations rep for a high-profile company. He has to deliver some bad news, and he tries to hide his nervousness behind a professional, reassuring smile. [SpoilersLost]

Also, Japanese superstar Hiroyuki Sanada, best known for appearing in the U.S. in The Last Samurai and Rush Hour 3, will play an undisclosed recurring role in season six. One theory: He's the wise teacher who helps get an amnesiac Locke back on his correct path in the new, revised timeline. [EW]

Dollhouse:

A new poster for season two debuts the slogan, "Anyone Can Happen," and new promo pics show Eliza Dushku posing in — wait for it — a dollhouse. Neat! [THR and SciFiScoop]

Also, Keith Carradine will appear in at least two episodes, playing powerful businessman Matthew Harding. [EW]

Doctor Who:

Not sure if any of these pics are new (some of them just look like trailer screencaps) but the BBC uploaded a promo gallery for the next story, "Waters Of Mars." [BBC]

Fringe:

In episode 1x06, "Earthling," we're going to meet Diane, Broyes' attractive, African-American ex-wife. [SpoilerTV]

And in episode 1x07, "Of Human Action," we'll meet FBI director McKenna, a former colleague of Broyles. Plus Tyler Carson, a 15-year-old boy who has a worried look all the time. [SpoilerTV]

Supernatural:

Here's the official description for the season opener, "Sympathy For The Devil":

Picking up where the finale left off, Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Sam (Jared Padalecki) watch as the Devil (guest star Mark Pellegrino, "Lost") emerges from Hell. The brothers and Bobby (Jim Beaver) deal with the aftermath of Lucifer rising and the stunning news from Chuck the Prophet (guest star Rob Benedict) that Castiel (Misha Collins) was blown to bits by the archangels.

[KryptonSite]

And there are two characters being cast for episode 1x06, "I Believe The Children Are Our Future," one of whom will be a recurring character:

[JESSE] 11-year-old boy (10-13 to play 11), he is a smart and sad all-American kid who is wise beyond his years and way too serious for his age - and has a real independent streak. Adopted as an infant, he has no idea of his lineage, simply perplexed by his uncanny powers. A firm believer in all things kid-like, such as the Tooth Fairy and the danger of joy buzzers. He is faced with a very grown up decision. Please denote age next to your suggestions ...RECURRING GUEST STAR

[JULIA] In her early 30s, mousy and pale, Julia looks like she hasn't had a good night's sleep in about eleven years. Sort of meek, she becomes overtaken by a dark, dark force...GUEST STAR

[SpoilerTV]

Smallville:

Steph Song twittered that she's been cast as a villain named Victoria aka Roulette, in episode 9x06. " I get to kick some serious ass in this. all I can tell you is that she's a trickster, a villain, a master deceiver all in a very tight red dress. ;)" [Twitter via SpoilerTV]

And if you want to know more about Victoria/Roulette, there are some script pages circulating for casting purposes. Oliver Queen is in a casino, where he's losing tons of money and his joie de vivre — he puts his Lamborghini on black, and the ball lands on red. He decides to eat some potentially deadly blowfish because he needs to risk death to feel alive. Then Roulette turns up, looking stunning in a tight red dress, and offers to help Oliver regain his lust for life — she plays a weird shell game, and under one shell is a red pill, which she tells him to take. He takes it, and blacks out.

But he doesn't wake up realizing he's been in the Matrix — instead, he just gets annoyed at Victoria and her drug-crazy game. Turns out she works for some nasty people, and they would have killed her if Oliver hadn't taken that pill. And then they kill her anyway, and Oliver is left holding her as she bleeds to death. The cops nab Oliver as a suspect in her murder, but then an FBI guy shows up and springs Ollie. He tells Ollie Roulette's gang targets rich dudes and tries to take all their money. And he encourages Ollie to check his bank accounts on the handy nearby laptop, and Ollie's relieved to find his money's all still there. (And if there's any justice, that laptop had a key-logging software and Ollie's accounts are grass.) [SpoilerTV]

FlashForward:

There are a ton of casting calls for episode 1x07. We'll be going to school, where we'll meet Jeff, a nice former teacher of the year who's embraced his dark side and keeps his head in a crisis; Rafael, a high-school Spanish teacher who advises the school newspaper and advises a student who's uncovered an unfortunate situation. Plus Chris, an uber-competitive soccer coach who will do anything to win.

And it sounds like we'll spend some time in a hospital. There, we'll meet Komanchek, a crazy old guy who's a loose cannon; Suki, a 70-something Japanese woman who gets agitated and shouts to be heard; and James, an African American desk clerk at the hospital who tries to defuse a difficult situation that involves shouting. We'll also meet Matt, a former Marine and Iraq war veteran, who's just completed a two-year rehab program and is looking to restart his life.

We also meet Celia, the mother of two five-year-old boys who talks in a voiceover about wanting to bring as much joy as possible into her kids' lives; Squirrel, an FBI analyst with Asperger's syndrome — every show needs one of those; a friendly bartender who lubricates a tense situation by keeping the drinks flowing; a bouncer at an exclusive club; and Nadine, a sultry chick who propositions a complete stranger in the club. [SpoilerTV]

V:

Josh Hamel says he's been cast in a major role on this show — and speculation is, he'll play a character named Billy Hamel. [SpoilerTV]

Also, there's a casting call for Mary Falkner, the widow of the F-16 pilot whose plane went down when the alien motherships first showed up. She's been on a hunger strike ever since. [SpoilerTV]

Heroes:

Actual good news! Jayma Mays will come back for one episode, to reprise her role as Charlie, Hiro's doomed sweetheart. Since Hiro is dying, he's zipping around through time trying to accomplish his "bucket list" of things he wants to accomplish before the end — so probably saving Charlie is top of the list. [EW]

Some new set pics show HRG and Tracy hanging out. They're forming a street-corner doo-wop group together! More pics at the link. [SpoilerTV]

And another set pic shows Tracy hanging out with a mysterious man in black. More at the link. [HeroByDay.net via SpoilerTV]

Eastwick:

Here's a new scene from the witchy pilot, plus some interviews with the cast:

Plus a couple new promos:

There's a casting call for episode 1x04: An elderly woman walks by, stops a young man and proceeds to kiss him. (I'm guessing there's a spell at work. Just a thought.) [SpoilerTV]

And here are some promo pics. [Eastwick Fans via SpoilerTV]

<![CDATA[One Character on Heroes is Dying, Another May Make the Move to Lost]]> One Heroes character gets a death sentence, a Heroes actor may turn up on Lost, and someone's seen the pilot script for Day One. Plus plenty of spoilers for Fringe, True Blood, The Book of Eli, Chuck, and Eureka.

Lost:

Add another name to the pile of actors potentially returning to Lost. Heroes' Greg Grunberg got a call about returning as Oceanic flight 815 pilot Seth Norris, but has no idea what the producers have planned. [TV Guide]

Heroes:

Two promos feature Sylar and Claire (US only, unfortunately):

And the whole cast talked to E! about their roles in the coming season. Adrian Pasdar says of the relationship between Sylar-Nathan and Parkman:

The whole premise of Zachary [Quinto], myself and Greg [Grunberg] having an interesting triangle of behavior. In the process of Matt crushing Sylar and having my body become his, Sylar entered Matt, so there's a soul that's missing in me. It's my own Nathan behavior that's manifesting itself through Sylar. There's a triangle that makes itself clear by the third episode.

Greg Grunberg elaborates:

When I did the mind transfer, it didn't go clean. Some of him stayed in me and he needs me. He's looking for his body, he needs his body back and he'll do anything to do that, including kidnapping my son...He's kind of hanging around in my subconscious, making me do things that I don't want to do. I have to catch myself. I can't get rid of him, so I decide to ignore him. But you can't ignore Sylar for very long.

Pasdar also says that the other characters will learn the truth about Nathan and Sylar soon enough:

I think it's clear from the outset of season four that something is going on, least of all to Nathan. He doesn't become aware of it. I think he's a step behind the audience. There's just a split second for him in terms of understanding where he's going and what might be wrong. He catches up though.

And Hayden Panettiere delved a bit more into Claire's girl-on-girl interlude:

It's a very interesting relationship. She hasn't really had a relationship with someone that close-as a friend or anything else-since first season with her friend Zach. So it's a relationship I think that people are going to love and love to see us together. It's a very interesting dynamic between the two of them...She gets a friend, a confidant, somebody she can confide in and not be alone with her secret and just be herself, somebody to help her along and be her buddy and her pal.

And what about the Carnival? Panettiere explains:

Carnival is the opposite of what the Company was. The Company wanted to hide us and our abilities. They wanted to keep it under wraps. The Carnival is the opposite where they want people to know about it.

But Grunberg notes there will be plenty of ambiguity:

Just when you think it's safe, it's not. Just when you think it's evil, it turns out that we need them more than they need us

As for the dynamic duo of Hiro and Ando, James Kyson Lee describes their upcoming business venture:

Ando and Hiro are going to start up a new business venture. It's going to keep us busy. Sept. 21 you will see a huge billboard. I am for hire, romance for hire.

But all is not well in Ando and Hiro land, James continues, because Hiro's days are, for the time being, numbered:

Hiro has a bucket list because he's dying. Ando is trying to change that, but we'll see. There's a whole theme of 'Can you really mess with fate?' in our show. Sometimes you can change history, sometimes you can't.

Battlestar Galactica: The Plan:

The box art for The Plan DVD has been released, along with the official synopsis:

Battlestar Galactica: The Plan: The Cylons began as humanity's robot servants. They rebelled, and evolved, and now they look like us. Their plan is simple: destroy the race that enslaved them. But when their devastating attack leaves human survivors, the Cylons have to improvise. Battlestar Galactica: The Plan tells the story of two powerful Cylon leaders, working separately, and their determination to finish the task.

The Book of Eli:

Crave online talks to the Hughes brothers about their post-apocalyptic universe, describing the consequences of a natural ecological disaster:

Allen Hughes: If it was a super volcano. They all, basically, the same thing would happen 30 years after. The atmosphere will look a certain way. There'd be a certain color to the sky. There'd be a certain kind of decomposition of the landscape so we could put that, coupled with what Albert's talking about.

Albert Hughes: Right now, what's in the teaser is not [everything]. When the normal trailer comes out, you'll see more of the world. There's no vegetation.

They talk about their survivors scavenging for supplies, and mention that Eli notes, "We kill people for what we used to throw away." But Allen Hughes notes the characters, not the post-apocalyptic setting, are central to the film:

It is about humans, whether it's Gary, Mila's character, they all are survivors. They are survivors. I think the bottom line is that's why the western comes up, because when you take advantage of more primitive times, true character starts to show through. When you put people in that element, you start to see the conflict is there a lot more. It's a hotbed for drama. Our piece is very dramatic. I mean, there's action or whatever but we start with character and that conflict. It's survival.

[Crave Online]

Fringe:

Executive producer J.H. Wyman teased the September 17 departure of Kirk Acevedo's character Charlie:

That is going to be a continuing storyline throughout the season. It should thrill. Nobody ever really disappears, and they could come back at any time. There is a parallel universe. Maybe [Charlie] will show up [there]. I think a lot of the answers you're looking for will be clear in [episodes] two and three and four. You'll really enjoy it.

When asked about the possibility of romance between Olivia and Peter, showrunner Jeff Pinker replied:

As long as the emotion is true, we're open to anything.

Which I take to mean, don't get your 'shipping hopes up any time soon. Oh, and Anna Torv just ate mushed up worms on set. [E! Online]

Pinker reiterated that there will be only one alternate universe, and said that most of the action will take place "over there." Leonard Nimoy has already filmed one episode for the second season as the alternate dimension-dwelling William Bell, and will be filming several more. Says Wyman:

He will appear on the show as much as he wants to.

[TV Guide]

Plus, new press release goodness:

Each episode of the sophomore season promises to uncover more about the larger threat and while some questions will be answered, new ones will surface. The intensity accelerates as Season Two opens with Olivia's shocking return to this reality, and a determined Peter, unknowingly in a race against time with an ominous mobile force, pursues information about Olivia's blurred and perplexing visit to the alternate reality. Meanwhile, Walter reenters the lab to cook up a bit of fringe science, and of course, some custard for someone's birthday.

[Spoiler TV]

True Blood:

Two clips have surfaced from what looks to be next week's episode. First, Eric tries to rescue Sookie from the Fellowship of the Sun lock-in:

Then the police question Sam after finding Daphne's body in his fridge:

The Lovely Bones:

New promo images for The Lovely Bones, mostly straight out of the trailer.

[IGN]

Chuck:

Yvonne Strahovski elaborated a bit on Sarah Walker's relationship with Chuck in the coming season:

At the end of season two, we saw him download that new intersect. Sarah Walker is going to be a little less than impressed by it because we all saw she was letting herself go more and falling into the relationship with Chuck and putting aside the work side of things. So it's a little disappointing for her.

And, on the season in general:

There's going to be love and romance, but a little bit of heartbreak, maybe some rejection, some guns and some action...We're going to discover how the mechanism works inside Chuck's head. We're going to see just how good it is.

[E! Online]

Here's a casting call for the season's second episode, "Chuck Versus the Three Words:"

[KURT STROMBERG] (30-45). A powerful, brick of a man. Eyes void of any feeling. He is a dangerous arms-dealer but he has a soft spot for the love of his life, Carina (Mini Anden). Whenever he gets around her, he becomes a lovable teddy bear.

[Spoiler TV]

Eureka:

It's goo and electrodes in images from the fifteenth episode "Shower the People:"

[Spoiler TV]

Day One:

Ain't It Cool News has gotten a hold of the pilot script for NBC's alien invasion drama, and shared a few details:

Massive meteorite-like projectiles come crashing into the Earth from all around the planet. The projectiles then melt, reform and shoot out of the ground, beanstalk-like, to form bizarre towers twice the length of the tallest man-made skyscraper. A circuit-frying electro-magnetic pulse knocks out all electronics and communications, "War of the Worlds"-style.

The key to combating the aliens, strangely, may lie with the series' main characters, all of them unknowing residents of a small Van Nuys, Calif., apartment complex. One's a doctor (latter-day "Veronica Mars" vet Julie Gonzalo). Another's a war vet just back from Iraq (latter-day "ER" vet David Lyons). Two more are the world's best-looking computer geeks ("24" vet Carly Pope and "Harper's Island" vet Adam Campbell). A reclusive resident of the complex named Lynne (she's the bespectacled young woman seen at the end of the trailer below) appears to have been secretly manipulating her fellow tenants without their knowledge in anticipation of the threat. Some key dialogue:

TENANT: So you knew this was coming?

LYNNE: It's all happened before.

Later we see Lynne talking to a non-tenant named Hugh, another fellow who seems to know too much. He tells Lynne she needs to cut and run.

HUGH: Your people haven't been trained, Lynne. You won't get them working together in time. (beat) We'll try again. Somewhere else. But not here. It's too late.

Some time ago we asked Alexander if Lynne would be revealed to be a time-traveler in episode two; he replied emphatically in the negative. (We also asked if, while Alexander was working on "Lost's" first season, he knew that Hurley would be spending a good chunk of season five in 1977. His response: "Fuck no!" So somebody should someday ask Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse the same question!)

[AICN]

Defying Gravity:

Our astronauts boldly venture into a strip club in Sunday's episode "Threshold:"

And Spoiler TV has three more non-embeddable clips from the same episode.

Sanctuary:

The season two trailer is out, revealing a few details about the second season. It looks like the Sanctuary is getting a new beautiful badass (perhaps to replace the AWOL Ashley?), Will's struck up a relationship with invisible woman Clara Griffin, and vampiric Nikola Tesla is still hanging around.

Gamer:

The movie "makes 300 look like a picnic in terms of violence," says Gerard Butler. It's become okay for the human video-game avatars to "shoot the shit out of each other" while the whole world watches. [Collider via SciFiScoop]

Kick-Ass:

Nic Cage says we'll see his character, Big Daddy, in full costume, including cape and "the whole shebang." But his costume isn't the standard superhero outfit. "[It's] not spandex, but more high-tech, military, commando-style apparel." [MTV via Comic Book Resources]

Plus we get a nicer look at that wreckage, which apparently is a ship called the Byzantium. Joe, Kick-Ass, Doctor Who and Torchwood pics. And new Dollhouse/Battlestar Galactica videos. Plus Harry Potter, Book Of Eli, Eureka, Heroes and True Blood spoilers!

Green Lantern:

Jon Favreau twittered that "Green Lantern visited the set" of this movie, making people wonder if he meant that Ryan Reynolds stopped by (and maybe filmed a scene or two?) or some other actor who was in line to play Hal Jordan at some point. I imagine a Deadpool cameo is out of the question, since that's a different studio. Drat. Of course, it was probably just a friendly visit in any case. [Via Movies Spoilers]

Favreau also helpfully twittered this Youtube video of the movie's filming, showing the huge greenscreen set at Sepulveda Dam:

G.I. Joe:

Here are 9 new promo photos from this toy movie — which appear to be all from the trailer, sadly. But still, now you can really cherish the tight outfits and mayhem. [IGN via Comic Book Movie]

Harry Potter:

Michael Gambon describes what happens to Dumbledore in the new movie: "It's Dumbledore's final wind-up, isn't it? He's not well. He's losing his stature, he's getting sick, he's being infected by all these horcruxes and Harry sort of takes over, becomes his father in a way. He holds him up." Also, we get to see him dressed as "the young Dumbledore" in a suit and a hat. And he's definitely back "as a ghost" in the final movie, just like in the book. [AICN]

Kick-Ass:

Here's another image of this movie's titular teen superhero. Click the link to see the whole thing. [AICN]

The Book Of Eli:

The Hughes Brothers tell the L.A. Times this film stars "Denzel Washington as the lone hero walking westward, carrying with him a book with the secrets for saving humanity... the film, set in the not-so-distant future, takes place after a tremendous calamity befalls human civilization. Traveling west through the barren landscape, Eli needs to reach San Francisco to keep his special cargo from falling into the wrong hands." And there are biker chicks, and apparently there was some debate over whether they would kiss each other. [L.A. Times]

Doctor Who:

Here are a couple new promo pics from this fall's "Waters Of Mars," including a better look at that hideous possessed human. [Bad Wolf TV]

Dollhouse:

And here's another clip from the unaired episode "Epitaph One." Can't wait to see the whole thing! [Chicago Tribune]

Battlestar Galactica:

A new teaser for "The Plan" is pretty similar to the ones we've already seen, but with a few new snippets of footage. Sorry, non U.S. people, the Cylons hate you. [Syfy via Battlestar_Blog]

Torchwood:

I know it's already aired in the U.K., but here are some new promo photos from "Day Five" of "Children Of Earth," just in case you haven't seen it... or want to relive the handcuffs and running with children. [SpoilerTV and SpoilerTV]

Eureka:

Upcoming storylines including Jack and Zoe debating whether she'll go off to college. And Colin Ferguson reiterates that Jack's dynamic with Allison is more friendship, not just because Jack gets a new love interest but also because Allison's pregnant. [Digital Journal]

Salli Richardson-Whitfield and creator Jaime Paglia answer questions about the new episodes. [Sci Fi Wire]

The titles of episodes 3x13 through 3x16 will be "If You Build It," "Ship Happens," "Shower the People" and "You Don't Know Jack." [SpoilerTV]

Warehouse 13:

In upcoming episodes, we'll meet Claudia, a young hacker who's "a little Artie in training." [ProJo.com]

True Blood:

Here's a set video showing a scene from an upcoming episode. Jason and Sookie hit a couple who are making out, probably under Maryann's influence, in their truck. The couple go back to making out again. And then Sookie asks if they're all right, and they run away — to Merlotte's to tell Sam something.

I haven't seen last night's episode, so apologies if any of these spoilers are less than fresh. In any case, Deborah Ann Woll says Jessica's relationship with Bill "settles down as much as a father-daughter relationship ever does." And Alan Ball says an alien invasion storyline "kicks in around episode six" this season. (Sadly, he's probably kidding.) Sam Trammell says we'll find out how Sam knows Maryann:

A lot of Sam's history is explored this year, and you find out how they know each other. My storyline this year is very much entwined with hers. She's a very, very intense creature for Sam.

Sam also becomes more vulnerable than he's been in the past. And he has a scene coming up that's indescribably crazy. [E! Online]

We'll find out more about Maryann's pig, says Michelle Forbes. "I mean, animals of all sorts play their part as the season progresses. The pig is important, but it's not as important as you think. There are so many other animals that come into play." [TV Guide]

Heroes:

One of our heroes will interact with a sensitive male cello player who plays in Central Park, and when said hero tries to play the cello, the instrument turns out to be "magical." [TV Squad]

Dawn Olivieri plays Lydia, "the beautiful, charming, soul of the Sullivan Brothers Carnival. This carnival is a roving band of people blessed with special abilities. They are powerful, but they hide in the shadows, performing on the outskirts of towns and cities. But all of that is about to change. Lydia has been part of this carnival for a number of years. She is the exotic tattoo lady, but she is also a powerful empath of sorts." She has the ability to sense people using the images on her body, and she can track down other people with mutant abilities, so the Carnival's leader, Samuel, can recruit them. She understands the grief that has fueled Samuel's ambition, but may not be on board with his "destructive goals." [IGN]

On a possibly related note, the season's fourth episode will be called "Ink." [Heroes Spoilers]

Vampire Diaries:

Another new promo for this WB-esque show. [Vampiresite.net]

<![CDATA[So When Does The Writers Strike Stop Ruining Movies?]]> Hollywood writers went on strike in 2007-2008, but we're only seeing the results now, in a crop of summer movies with half-baked scripts and abnormally dunderheaded writing. So when do we start seeing some movies that the strike didn't wreck?

The writers' strike has caused incalculable damage to genre television, including helping to kill great shows like Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. But it's also inflicted maximum damage on this summer's movies. We detailed all the ways the strike impacted movies like Wolverine, Terminator Salvation, Transformers 2 and G.I. Joe a while back — it's probably no coincidence that the one movie whose script was in perfect shape before the strike hit, Star Trek, was also the only really watchable genre film in months.

(I think part of the reason I'm so over-the-moon about Trek is because I'm grading on a curve. Put it next to Iron Man and The Dark Knight, and it might not score quite so well. I was also thinking the other day that if The Incredible Hulk had come out in 2009, we might have appreciated it a bit more.)

So how about the movies coming this fall and winter, and even into next year? Did the strike hurt them as well? I did some digging, and here's what I found out about the crop of upcoming Hollywood movies:

District 9. (August 14) Not really a Hollywood movie, this Peter Jackson-produced alien imprisonment saga was filmed in South Africa and produced by QED Films. And reading between the lines of this Variety story from November 2007, it sounds as though director Neill Blomkamp and his partner Terri Tatchell had already written the script before the film was greenlit.

Pandorum. (September 4) This Dennis Quaid-Ben Foster space-horror film was greenlit in May 2008, a few months after the strike ended, and written by newcomer Travis Milloy. Which means it was a spec script, and unless it required major rewrites, it should be fine. The film only started shooting in August 2008, which means there should have been time to make rewrites, if any were needed.

Gamer. (September 4) This Gerard Butler-starring epic about prisoners who are forced to become video-game avatars for rich kids was actually filmed during the writer's strike, so its script was long since done. It's been on ice for quite some time — rumor has it test screenings in October 2008 produced almost entirely negative responses. The movie's gone through several titles, including Game and Citizen Game. So it may not be great... but that won't be the writers' strike's fault.

Splice. (September 18, limited release). Vincenzo Natali's genetic manipulation film stars Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley as researchers who mess with the human genome... and get burned. And there was a script in November 2007, when the writer's strike started. Or at least, producer Guillermo del Toro was able to say in a statement:

Vincenzo is taking Splice to really edgy places. The moment I cringed while reading the script, I knew I wanted to help him realize his vision.

And a still from the movie came out in February 2008, while the strike was still going on. (The movie's complex visual effects have required a long time to complete.)

The Surrogates. (September 25). This one's a bit unclear. Disney bought the rights to the robot-avatar graphic novel back in March 2007. They hired the writers of Terminators 3 and 4, Michael Ferris and John Brancato, to write the screenplay. The following November, Bruce Willis signed up to star, and T3 director Jonathan Mostow was announced as director. The film was supposed to start filming in February, but the rest of the cast wasn't announced until the following April, a few months after the strike ended. So it's entirely possible the script needed some rewrites. And got them. So it may be fine. Except that it's from the writers and director of Terminator 3.

Zombieland. (October 9) This zombie buddy comedy didn't even snag star Woody Harrelson until late August 2008, a good six months after the strike ended. And co-star Jesse Eisenberg was "in talks" to appear in the film in October 2008. So I'm guessing there was plenty of time to get a script together at some point.

The Road. (October 16) This bleak Cormac McCarthy adaptation was filmed in Western Pennsylvania early in 2008, and has been on ice for a year — it was originally supposed to open in 2008. Now all we have to worry about is that producer Harvey Weinstein forced some unwise edits on the film in the interim.

The Wolfman. (November 6) This is another one that's been sitting on ice for ages — Benicio Del Toro signed up for the lead role in March 2006 (!) and there was a script review in August 2006. (If anything, looking at this crop of movies, I'm starting to wonder why so many were delayed for so long.) Del Toro got a costar, Emily Blunt, in January 2008, and it looks like the film was filmed soon after.

2012. (Nov. 13) We covered this in our rundown of the writer's strike and summer movies — because it was originally supposed to come out this summer. (Yes, another delayed film.) But the strike didn't actually impact this film much at all, because the script was bought right after the strike ended.

Avatar. (December 18) James Cameron has been working on this film since before you were born. And yes, I don't care how old you are, it's still true. In any case, chances are he's had plenty of opportunities to tinker with the script. Here he is, talking it up in 2006.

The Book Of Eli. (January 15). The Hughes Brothers (From Hell) signed up to direct this post-apocalyptic bibliophile samurai pic back in May 2007, and they were trying to rush it into production in the fall of 2007 "before a possible strike." Obviously, this didn't work out — the film's star, Denzel Washington, wasn't even announced until September 2008, and filming didn't happen until earlier this year. So count this as another film that was delayed — maybe due to the strike.

And I think from there on out, you're looking at movies that were greenlit after the strike, so you're probably all good. Looking at the crop of movies coming up this fall and winter, the main thing that's jumping out at me is that a lot of them were delayed for various reasons — probably not all to do with the strike. There are a lot of movies coming out from August to January, which were originally supposed to come out much earlier, but they were kept in the freezer. Make of that what you will.

<![CDATA[Can Masi Oka Create A Decent Story About Saving The World?]]> Masi Oka's character on Heroes has dispensed so much conventional wisdom about heroism, it gives the entire audience nosebleeds. But now Oka is set to show us the true nature of heroism: via a story about massively multiplayer online games.

Oka tells The Hollywood Reporter that his hours spent playing MMORPGs gave him the idea for his new movie, The Defenders, about a group of teen players who must emerge from behind their avatars to join forces against a real-world menace.

"You can be whoever you want to be," Oka says of gamers. "The question came to me: What if you had to live up to the person you created in the virtual world?" He pitched the idea to genre giants Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (currently riding high with Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and Star Trek), who had been looking for Spielberg-type teen group adventure movies (à la The Goonies) to produce. Writing the screenplay for The Defenders will be Oka's World of Warcraft pal Gary Whitta (screenwriter of The Book of Eli, next year's postapocalyptic thriller from the Hughes brothers, starring Denzel Washington). DJ Caruso (Eagle Eye) is signed up to direct.

Naturally, there'll be a videogame tie-in.

We hope Oka's gaming buddy writes him a big part in the movie, though its teen focus makes that sound unlikely. And we hope the film turns out to be more than just an excuse to concoct a cool new game. Still, we're all for a modern-day Goonies-type tale. Sloth lives!

<![CDATA[Action Scenes From Transformers And Book Of Eli Described. Plus A Deadpool Promise!]]> It's a bumper crop of Monday spoilers. Michael Bay showed off new Transformers footage. Zoe Saldana talks Star Trek 2 and Ryan Reynolds talks Deadpool. A Book Of Eli action scene described. We uncover crazy Doctor Who rumors and Lost finale details. Plus Thor, Dollhouse, V, Stargate, Heroes and Smallville!

Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen:

Michael Bay, showing he really does love giant robots, went to a convention called Bot-Con and showed off some footage. There was a clip of John Turturro and Sam's new college roommate standing in a construction zone. A group of construction vehicles surround them. Then you see Mixmaster's Decepticon symbol, and realize these are Constructicons! ZOMG! The Constructicons move closer together to form Devastator. And apparently you can tell that Scavenger has the ability to force the other Constructicons to form Devastator, whether they want to or not. Oh noes! (Apparently this is sort of like a movie that Scorpion does in Mortal Kombat?)

Meanwhile, Sam and Mikaela are running away from Rampage. Then Rampage starts chasing Sam's dad, so Sam jumps out in front of him to draw his attention away from his father. Sam says, "Wait, it's not them you want. It's this, the Matrix!" He waves an item, and keeps luring Rampage away, until Bumblebee shows up. The bots fight, with Bumblebee gaining the upper hand when Ravage joins the fight too. Ravage blasts Bumblebee with his hip cannons, and jumps on his back. Rampage lunges for Sam, but Bumblebee throws him to the ground. And then Bumblebee tears Ravage apart — meaning, hopefully, that we never have to keep track of the difference between Ravage and Rampage again. [Seibertron]

And here are some new pics from the film. [Celebutopia]

Star Trek 2:

This is barely a spoiler, but it's early days yet. Zoe Saldana hints that she'd quite like to see Uhura ditch Spock and get with Kirk in the next movie. She, of course, is not actually writing the script. [Trek Movie]

Deadpool:

Ryan Reynolds says early discussions with the studio are leaving him confident that they want the Deadpool solo film to be as close to the comic-book material as possible. He adds, "I will husk-fuck a herd of cattle to bring Wade Wilson to life as the real deal." And no, I don't know what that means either. Is it a corn thing? And he adds that there's no reason that a Deadpool movie would need to have much connection with the Wolverine movie, where he got decapitated. The biggest villain in a Deadpool movie will always be Deadpool, Reynolds says, and the movie should be pop-savvy and self-aware, like the comics. [IGN]

Thor:

British actor Tom Hiddleston talks Loki:

Loki's like a comic book version of Edmund in King Lear, but nastier. Loki's skilled in black magic and scorcery. He's a shape-shifter and has all sorts of super powers from the dark arts. He can turn clouds into dragons, things like that.

And he says Loki will have "a lean and hungry look, like Cassius in Julius Caesar. Physically, he can't be posing as Thor." (Did you get the impression this movie will be Shakespearean? I can't imagine how.) [IGN]

The Book Of Eli:

Sci Fi Wire visited the set of this post-apocalyptic thriller about a man named Eli (Denzel Washington) who has a world-saving book, and the small-town dictator named Carnegie (Gary Oldman) who wants to take it away. They witnessed the filming of some scenes at the farmhouse of George and Martha (Michael Gambon and Frances de la Tour) an old couple with a big secret.

Apparently, George and Martha's farmhouse is a two-storey dingy gray house, with dead trees encircled by tires. Towards the end of the movie, there's a shootout involving Eli, the old couple, and Solara (Mila Kunis). Eli is inside the farmhouse, and Carnegie is shooting at him to get his hands on the book. Eli tosses a Claymore mine out, which blows up a Cadillac and scatters bad-guy body parts on the lawn. Eli tosses out a second explosive, then Carnegie fires a rocket-powered grenade at the house, blowing part of it up.

Then George runs to a window and shoots his machine gun, killing two guys before he runs out of ammo and ejects his magazine. Carnegie yells "Cease fire! Cease fire!" and then we see Eli and Solara looking out the window. An armored truck backs up towards the house. It opens up in back to reveal sandbags and a man and a woman, seated at a massive gatling gun. Eli hits the floor and pulls Solara down with him, just as the gun tears into the house. [Sci Fi Wire]

Doctor Who:

It wouldn't be Monday without some batshit Who rumors. Someone posts that his/her aunt just recorded a brief scene for David Tennant's final episode, in which she played a Time Lord at some kind of trial. And Timothy Dalton was there! (Let's start a rumor that Dalton is the Valeyard! That would be kind of awesome!)

Meanwhile, there's also a rumor that the show is looking for a male companion to travel alongside Matt Smith and Karen Gillan for five or six episodes in 2010. Supposedly Sam Troughton auditioned for the role and didn't get it — but now it's narrowed down to Dean Kelly (who played Shakespeare in season three) and someone named Liam Boyle. As usual, these are just rumors, and should be taken with several salt mines' worth of grains of salt. [Doctor Who Forum]

Lost:

Matthew Fox (who supposedly knows something about how this show ends) says he's sure Jack will die at some point. But it'll be cool to see where Jack and Locke end up in the final moments of the series. [Lyly Ford]

Dollhouse:

Now that the show's established itself, you'll be seeing the show Joss always wanted to make, says Eliza Dushku. There are stories that the writers didn't get to tell in year one, that you'll be seeing in year two. And Echo may be showing off more specialized fighting techniques, for her different imprints. And she'll be spending more time with former Agent Ballard next season. [E! Online]

V:

A couple more promo pics of this remake of the 1980s classic. [SpoilerTV]

Smallville:

Our first promotional poster for season nine... and it still names Sam Witwer as a regular castmember. An oversight? Or a clue? [OSCK]

Chuck:

There will be some kind of internet presence, like webisodes, between now and when this show comes back in March 2010. (And it may come back sooner, if other stuff falls through.) As we mentioned, a new romantic interest will come between Chuck and Sarah. And there will be new characters, along with all the existing castmembers. Chuck will get more physical. The show's mythology will deepen, and the new season will not lack for romance. [Sci Fi Wire]

Stargate Universe:

The show's fourth episode, "Fire," written by co-creator Brad Wright, has been split into two episodes, "Darkness" and "Light." The episode was tightly plotted, but was running about 20 minutes overlength. And Wright had already cut a ton of scenes at the script stage for fear it would overrun. The expansion means the show's mid-season two parter, "Space" and "Divided," will be episodes 11 and 12 respectively. [Gateworld]

Heroes:

A writer Twittered a picture of the script for the fourth season opener. Apparently it contains scenes with HRG, Angela and faux-Nathan in Japan. Tracy is still at Kent Harper's apartment, and Angela wanders a city street. Also, Claire, HRG and "Annie" are on campus together. [Twitpic via SpoilerTV]

Also, the season opener will feature Prudence, a young girl who's odd-looking and was brought up in the carnival, and Ernie, an old carnie who's on his last legs. [SpoilerTV]

<![CDATA[The Future Of Our Post-Apocalyptic World Hinges On Denzel Washington's iPod]]> New stills from Denzel Washington's post-apocalyptic Book Of Eli show a barren wasteland of sand and sunglasses huts. But more interesting than all the designer-shade-sporting extras is the fact that Denzel, the bearer of "the great book" plots his course based on his iPod's battery power.

According to USA Today, the Washington's character decides to stop into Gary Oldman's town (the source of all his troubles) because (from one of the directors Allen Hughes):

"Eli's iPod has run out of juice and to the right is the road that leads into Carnagie's (Oldman) town. Eli makes the decision to go in to town, power up his iPod and refill his canteen."

The hell? It's good to see that in a future where water is scarce, we still have our priorities straight. I mean, can you even walk in a straight line without the proper music playlist these days? Why would we assume our future selves would be any different? Apart from the fact that it looks like everyone died. But you know, a little Journey fixes everything.

The official synopsis is:

A post-apocalyptic tale, in which a lone man fights his way across America in order to protect a sacred book that holds the secrets to saving humankind.

Denzel is the man with the book — and the iPod — who is traveling through. Oldman is the evil town Mayor who wants nothing more than to get his hands on the precious book. Let the scenery-chewing showdown begin. The Book of Eli will be released in theaters on January 15, 2010.

<![CDATA[Video From Denzel And Oldman's End Of The World Picture]]> Gary Oldman is going bananas on the set of The Book Of Eli. Watch as his posse (including one Ray Stevenson) have an end of the world shoot-out amidst the rubble they call home.

Entertainment Tonight filmed a few in-progress action shots on set of The Book Of Eli. Once you strip away all the ridiculous banter, you can see what looks like a Western-meets-Mad Max shootout. I, for one, was really excited to see skinny little Oldman cursing and dancing around, presumably angry with that wily ol' Denzel and his book with the secrets to humanity inside.

Mila Kunis also gave up some of her time to talk to the cameras. Kunis' on-screen mother is Flashdancer Jennifer Beals, and also the blind sex slave to one evil Gary Oldman (Oooh Gary... you're so bad in this!). The film follows Denzel as he travels across a burned down America because, according to Mila, they blew up the sun. Denzel is spreading the word from the Book of Eli that Gary Oldman and his back of mismatched ruffians desperately want to get their hands on.

<![CDATA[Gary Oldman Gives Great Villain On Set Of Denzel's Book Of Eli]]> Give me a Gary Oldman villain over any other baddie, any day. Check out our first glimpse of Denzel and Gary's post-apocalyptic power struggle.

Quiet Earth found these great stills from White Mountain Wheels, who just happened upon the set. I have to say one coy smile from Gary Oldman, and I am sold. The movie follows Denzel, as he treks across a burned world spreading the word from his "book of Eli." When he gets to Oldman's camp, crafty Gary and his team of shabby-looking ruffians devise a way to capture this book, which holds the secret to saving humankind.

The Book Of Eli will be released in theaters on January 15, 2010.

<![CDATA[Book Of Eli Shows Off Denzel's End-Of-The-World Beard]]> Finally, a decent look at the rough-and-tumble post-apocalyptic action movie The Book Of Eli, starring a very dissheveled-looking Denzel Washington and his magical book.

The Book of Eli follows Denzel Washington, as he journeys across a sunburned America after armageddon, protecting a sacred book with the secrets to humanity in its pages from the likes of Gary Oldman.

Filming is currently underway, and we're incredibly excited that Entertainment Weekly has released the first shots. It all looks terribly dusty (as burned Earths so often are). Heck we're excited to see Oldman in anything villainous, because I think secretly were still hoping he'll bring back his Fifth Element character, Jean-Baptiste Emanuel Zorg.

The Book Of Eli will be in theaters 15 January 2010.

<![CDATA[A Surprising Wolverine Co-Star Confirmed!]]> A French magazine printed tons of new Wolverine pics, and confirmed a shocking mutant costar. Plus there are new Astro Boy and Clone Wars pics, and Push/Heroes clips. And super-minor Doctor Who season five spoilers.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine:

French magazine Climax had a cover story about this movie, and true to their name, they celebrated with tons of pics of Wolvie having an orgasm. (I think they're all new, except maybe the one of him standing. Way more pics in the print magazine.) My French is super rusty — hard to believe I used to read Sartre in the original French — but here's what I could glean.

There will be tons of angst and darkness. Actually, this quote from director Gavin Hood sounds very Sartrean in French: "Wolverine m'attire car il est en conflit avec lui-même et sa vraie nature. Il souffre d'un rage existentielle hors du commun." (Wolverine appeals to me becuase he's in conflict with himself and his true nature, and he suffers an existential rage.)

There's a roundup of the movie's mutants: Sabretooth (Liev Schreiber), Gambit (Taylor Kitsch), William Stryker (Danny Huston), Beak (Dominic Monaghan), Kestrel (Will.I.Am), Silver Fox (Lynn Collins), Blob (Kevin Durand), Scott Summers (Tim Pocock), Agent Zero (Daniel Henney), Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) and Emma Frost (Tahnya Tozzi). As far as I can tell, it's just summarizing who these people are in the comics. Note: I'd heard reports that Scott Summers was in this film, but is this the first official confirmation? [SpoilerTV]

The Book Of Eli:

Some more casting news about this post-apocalyptic samurai movie starring Denzel Washington as the guy who has the book everybody wants. Dumbledore actor Michael Gambon has signed on to play one half of a couple who hold onto old traditions in spite of the whole "post-apocalyptic" thing. [Reuters]

Astro Boy:

Two new images from the CG animated movie, tying in with its promotional appearances at New York Comic Con. Bigger images at the link. [AICN via Slashfilm]

Push:

Here's a new clip from this awesome psychic smackdown movie:

Doctor Who:

Call this an incredibly minor spoiler. New Doctor Matt Smith says he's read a couple of scripts from season five, written by Steven Moffat, and "they rocket along." He also says they're "inventive and witty." (So the spoiler is that the scripts aren't slow moving and unoriginal, I guess.) Also, Smith says he wouldn't mind having his costume look a bit like 1970s star Tom Baker's. [BBC]

Heroes:

Another development in the "blonde women want to leave the show" rumor-fest. Hayden Panettiere came out and denied that she wanted to do a cheerleadery backflip away from the series. Or rather, she said she doesn't know anything about those rumors, which is almost the same thing. Almost. [MSNBC]

Here's a sneak peek from Monday's episode, "Trust And Blood." [HeroesTheSeries]

And here's our first peek at Smallville's John Glover as Sylar's dad. [Heroes Spoilers]

Star Wars: Clone Wars:

Friday night's episode, "The Hidden Enemy," sounds like it may be one to catch, since it sets up an intriguing plot development for future installments. Cody and Rex discover that one of their fellow clones is leaking information to the enemy, and they have to uncover the traitor before he thwarts the Republic's efforts to liberate Christophsis from a Separatist siege. Says director Steward Lee,

The clone's logic is understandable... He no longer wants to be just a slave to the Jedi, and wants to try and break that infrastructure. He thinks he's doing the right thing for all the clones and that the sacrifice is worth it.

Adds writer Drew Greenberg (Buffy, Dexter, Firefly):

Even the guy who turns out to be the bad guy makes the case that he was doing it for his brothers. This is about what it means to be a clone and what it means to be part of that brotherhood." And Lee says the Clone's rejection of the task he was bred for "creates an interesting beginning of something to come.

[Lucasfilm]

Eleventh Hour:

Plot descriptions for the Feb. 19 and Feb. 26 episodes:

1x14, "Minimata": A healthy helicopter pilot who flies for a local TV station goes blind during a live traffic report, which results in a deadly crash.
1x15, "Electro": "Thirty people are struck by lightning during a 10-minute thunderstorm."

<![CDATA[Gary Oldman's Blind Sex Prize is A Flashdancer]]> Jennifer Beals is joining the cast of the post apocalyptic thriller The Book Of Eli. Famous for her roles in Flashdance and as the sex addicted Bette Porter in The L Word, Beals should be able to keep up with heavy hitters Denzel Washington and Gary Oldman on set — at least we're hoping so, because I'd hate to get in that acting crossfire. Beals will be playing —I kid you not — "Oldman's sexual prize and [Mila] Kunis' mother, a blind woman doing anything she can to protect her child." Fantastic. [The Hollywood Reporter]

<![CDATA[Book Of Eli Will Be Trash Cinema At Its Finest]]> Some new casting calls have come out for The Book Of Eli, the post-apocalyptic film starring Denzel Washington and Gary Oldman. And they hint at some plot snippets that make this movie sound just as violent and demented as you'd expect from the directors of Menace II Society and From Hell.

According to SpoilerTV, the movie is currently casting the mother of Mila Kunis' character. Kunis (That 70s Show, Max Payne) plays Solara. And according to the casting call, Solara's mom, Claudia, has been blind since birth. The villain Carnegie (Gary Oldman) captured Claudia as a prize long ago, and now he uses her as a sexual toy. Claudia goes along with it, because if she refuses Carnegie anything, it'll mean "torment for her child." But eventually, Claudia gets her revenge somehow.

And then there are a couple of minor villains. Carnegie has a "bull-necked second-in-command" named Hoyt, who foolishly tries to challenge Carnegie's orders once too often, and gets shot to death for his affrontery.

Also, there's Martz, the leader of a marauding biker gang who commits robbery, rape and murder before breakfast. He's illiterate, but knows that Carnegie will pay top dollar for a very special book. So he brings in every book he can find. He's dumb enough to confront Eli (Denzel Washington) and watches in horror as his men are sliced to ribbons, Samurai style. (Note the Samurai motif in the teaser poster.) Then Martz adds to his mistake by trying to hit Eli from behind — only to get killed quickly.

If the casting call is for real, it definitely sounds as though the Hughes brothers are sticking close to their exploitation movie roots. But with an A-list cast on board, which can't hurt. [SpoilerTV]

<![CDATA[Straczynski Shares Secrets Of Zombie Survival, From World War Z]]> Spoilers exist in a world of limitless possibility. When you read writer J. Michael Straczynski's explanation of how he and director Marc Forster plan to adapt the novel World War Z, you can just about imagine it. And when Eliza Dushku explains just how out-there some of her new personalities will be in Joss Whedon's Dollhouse, your mind opens like a flower's petals. A new Lost promo poster hints at all sorts of interesting twists (and so does our exclusive set report). There's also tantalizing spoilage on the Denzel Washington-starring Book Of Eli. There are minds-eye-opening spoilers for Heroes, Battlestar Galactica, Star Wars: Clone Wars, Smallville, Wonder Woman and Torchwood. Let the spoilers open a world of forbidden imagination!

World War Z:

How will the movie version of this instant classic book adapt its structure? Writer J. Michael Straczynski explains:

The fictional concept of the book is that its written by someone with the UN, so let’s tell that story. Let’s show the book being written. We follow this guy all over the world as he goes on these interviews, and he has his own personal story as well. You’re cutting between the past and the present, how he got to this point.

It has that international feel to it, and because it goes backward and forward in time, we can cherry-pick our favorite moments in the book. Some of it is crazy in scale. It’s huge. It’s as political as the book was. And it ends with that book being completed.

He sees the book as a Bourne-style thriller, with a massive scale. One planned sequence is set in India, with hundreds of boats trying to escape a tidal wave of zombies. [MTV]

The Book Of Eli:

Ray Stevenson, who costars in this movie with Denzel Washington and Gary Oldman, says he helps Oldman's character to chase Eli (Washington). And it's a surreal post-apocalyptic setting, where at one point you think it's snowing and then you realize it's still ash falling from the skies. (Like in that one Doctor Who episode.) And the survivors are fighting over, not oil or soil, but pure water, which is the most precious commodity. [Sci Fi Wire]

The Spirit:

Here's a new TV spot.

Dollhouse:

Eliza Dushku gave away some plot details for upcoming episodes of Joss Whedon's mindwiped vessels-for-hire show. "Last episode, they surgically implant cameras into my eyeballs and send me into a cult compound as a blind woman. I was playing this tripped-out blind woman. Then I'm playing a 50-something-year-old woman in my own body in this next episode." She also gets to do a six-page Muay Thai fight scene where she kicks a six-foot-five-inch man's ass. Also, the difference between Joss' original pilot and the new version is that the original was more film noir, and the new version is more straight-up action. [Sci Fi Wire]

Also, in episode 10, "Four Engagements," we'll meet Ramirez, a tough-as-nails Latina who's a handler in the Dollhouse. [Whedon.Info]

Battlestar Galactica:

It may be clutching at straws, but one fan scanning the list of props and costumes for auction noticed it said the "final five" robes had been worn by Foster, Anders, Tigh and Tyrol. Whereas in the actual episode, they were worn by extras. So maybe we get another scene of the final five wearing those robes? [TriniRoslin]

Lost:

More about that Dharma shooting we mentioned yesterday that includes the Oceanic Six and Sawyer. An eagle-eyed reader writes to us:

I live on the North Shore, where they shoot Lost. On a hike today near the ocean I saw a scene with Hurley standing around in dark clothes while a blue and white VW bus came buzzing up and stopped by him. An hour later when I was on my way back, I saw that Sawyer (i'm pretty sure) had joined the scene. There were two or three extra blue and white VWs on standby out of scene and the one I saw up close had the Dharma logo on its front.

And here's an ultra-glam new cast portrait for season five. Note the lack of Daniel Dae Kim, the decor blending the island with the city, and the Dharma pop bottles. [The ODI]

Remember that video I mentioned the other day, debunking the myth of the Oceanic Six? It's an extra on the season four DVD, and it seems to hint that the O6 will be under more scrutiny from the public in season five. Here it is. [Doc Arzt]

Torchwood:

Liz May Brice plays Johnson, a mysterious government agent who wants to expose the existence of Torchwood — and aliens — to the public. She has the gunslinging skills of a crack commando and the allure of Lara Croft, apparently. I'm just guessing she ends up joining the team. Just a thought. [SyFyPortal]

Heroes:

D.H. Lawrence will be appearing on Heroes! Well, not exactly. Actually, David H. Lawrence, who plays that puppeteer guy Eric Doyle, will be in a couple of episodes around episode 17. Almost as good as a zombie porno literary writer guy, right? [The ODI]

Here's a sneak peek from Monday's episode.

Smallville:

Alaina Huffman (Black Canary) thinks it's the last season, and we're going to get a "big payoff" in the becoming-Superman department. And there may be more development of the Black Canary-Green Arrow love connection, and more of the Justice League. [OSCK]

Star Wars: Clone Wars:

Here's another pic from Friday's episode, in which "Padawan Ahsoka Tano and Jedi Master Luminara Unduli discuss methods of dealing with their uncooperative prisoner." The comfy chair!! [Warner Bros.]

Wonder Woman:

Here are a few more pics from the WW animated DVD, including Hades and Wondy looking sad. [Warner Bros.]
