    Here is the thing: no one can understand The Invisibles. Only me. It is better if you don't read it. Just ask me pertinent questions, and I will describe the nature of the thing for you.

    All-Star Superman is the anti-Watchmen. It's every bit the masterpiece of Watchmen without any of the dystopic cynicism or self-importance of Alan Moore's work. With the character of Dr. Manhattan Alan Moore asked the question of how a god would act and effect human history in the real world. Grant Morrison's answer to this question....SUPERMAN. All other superheroes and superhero tales pale in comparison to Grant Morrison's shining example. Watchmen included.

    Let me add something from my wish-list: Stray Toasters, by Bill Sienkiewicz.

    Yeah, I said it. Bring it on. Late '80s in the house.

    (Also glad Howard Chaykin gets a mention once in a while. He's a little underrated IMO.)

    ST is brilliant.

    I love Chaykin, but I recently read BITE CLUB. Boy, was that ripe.

    I know this may be deleted but:

    Miracleman shows up in a quick search of the Pirate Bay. Stealing is bad and all, but if its out of print never to return then that's a special instance. There's no ethical reason to pay such high after market prices when the author won't see a dime of it.

    Uh, I second that advice, I have most of the issues themselves but that torrent contains some really rare shit.

    I don't think it's illegal to torrent something which isn't commercically available.

    @Steve-Q:
    It is, and some companies (if they find out) will still go after you. This was a big issue that got raised in regards to "abandonware", which is the consumer-side term for PC games that are no longer commercially available, and are a bitch and a half to track down on the secondary market (assuming you can afford what you do find). Sites popped up that dealt _exclusively_ in software that was no longer on the market (like old Sierra and Lucasarts games that weren't available in collected sets), and they still had C&D orders dropped on them.

    "Near-future setting"?
    Did 'Watchmen' not take place in an alternate 1985? 24 years ago? Dopey.

    Which pretty much means it was never a "near future" setting, just an alternate present-day one. At the time of release.

    @Charlie Jane Anders: In a bizarre sense, Sandman is about superheroes. Morpheus is the protector of the Dreaming, like Superman is the protector of Metropolis.
