I mean, the original movie will ALWAYS EXIST. If they remake Labyrinth, WHO CARES?! If it's good, great! If not, I can always go back and watch David Bowie's package gyrate in a big group of puppets.
Just stop whining. It starts to sound like you don't have enough going on in your current life, or enough self-esteem, so that you have to resort to hyper-sensitive nostalgia to preserve some sort of sense of a "lost paradise" to explain the world today.
Oh if only transformers were still die-cast metal! Then I'd be a happily married rich triathlete!

If you think this will make movies better, just think about this: "Tropic Thunder" was a COMPLETELY ORIGINAL IDEA.
Then vomit.

Some things are better left alone. It's as simple as that. I'm all for shooting some life into some old franchises, but that's not what's going on here. This movie (if it gets made) will be thrown in with all the lame, money grubbing remakes we've had to endure lately. It's not being remade with the hope of it actually becoming something unique, it's being made because some asshole exec in his office happened to land his dart in the right place.
This isn't the same as Trek purists bitching about their franchise. This was simple story that people found completely satisfying to begin with and don't want Hollywood to fuck up. Many people would love the idea of their favorite series/book/film/video game being adapted to the big screen, but only when it receives the respect they feel it deserves.

but as it is, just buy the originals and watch those instead of the remakes and get over yourselves
I don't like posting a negative comment like this but after reading the other comments on Predator/Total Recall/Whatever Other Movie reboot that has so many people whining about it I really feel the need to vent
if Hollywood wants to remake/reboot/rehash something then great, if it gets a good movie out of it then we all win...or is everyone happy with the original Judge Dredd, or the various other shit movies that were just pumped out over the years?
As a side note: I would describe putting Hayden Christensen in the last scene of Jedi as "killing my childhood"...seeing you can't watch the DVD any other way
