I am officially pooped.

Note to self: Read and post at io9 while doing very important contract work works only up to a point, the point when the eyes start rolling in independent directions and the brain begins to melt.

I'm currently watch Superman/Batman:Public Enemies and two things occurred to me:

1. I still love Lex Luthor, despite how completely bonkers he is.

2. Even with the Nolan films, one of my favorite Batman movies is Return of the Joker. I love how it brings out how grim and cruel Joker but he still makes you laugh.

So, out of all the Batman movies (What is the plural of of Batman? Batmen, Batmans?) which is your favorite movie?

@geesejuggler: I'm fairly unoriginal here - The Dark Knight. It was so damn good. I have fond memories of seeing it at the theatre with friends, too, so it gets major nostalgia points.

We created a scale based on The Dark Knight to measure "awesomeness." The basic unit was "DarkKnights," so things were mostly measured in "milliDarkKnights."

I enjoy "Batman" as well, which is such a product of its time. It does it's job really well, I think it stands up over time.

Now, bringing in Animated Series stuff - that's a whole different animal. Because my favorite Batman of all time is The Animated Series translation - the show was so excellent in so many ways. The movies based on it are extremely well done, also.

But my kneejerk is "The Dark Knight," so that's what I'm going with.

So, confession. I've never read any Neal Stephenson. And as I was looking for a book to read recently, I thumbed through his classics.

Being that I am now an "old" - and one that has had lots of conversations about stuff, well, they really struck me as a lot of "talking about stuff" in a way that I would have loved when I was, say, 19. Like Herman Hesse.

Did I just latch on to the wrong pages? It's it too late for me to go back? Do I just accept that no single life will be completely full and move on to all the other books in the world?

@92BuickLeSabre: I read Zodiac. My ex had picked it up because she thought it was about the Zodiac killer... and after reading a couple of pages gave it to me to read. It was OK, I don't remember all that much about it. Annalee had an interview with Stephenson about Anathem back in 2008. It appears that it is more than just conversations about "stuff." While it does sound like he enjoys dealing with weighty issues, that might get bogged down. Take another random smattering of pages?

Did anyone else throw up a little in his or her mouth when they found out about Tim Burton + Addam's Family? [www.cartoonbrew.com]

I think it upsets me b\c like all of the other unoriginal work Burton has done in the past decade or so, this has soooo much potential to be awesome...but will probably just end up being kinda pretty.

@ExtensionOfBob: I don't see it being that amazing. The Addams Family is far more macabre than Burton, I think. Burton tends to present things as so cute in a way, but the Addams are unsettling. Sometimes, in the old comics, you laugh out of nervousness.

Burton's far more style than substance, I find. A style I enjoy watching. And the Addams Family is not the most substantive tale, but still. They don't actually mesh together in my head that well.

Here is the link to the original article, too, with all the extra news (I hashtagged it as a tip, too):

@ExtensionOfBob: I quite frankly don't think The Addams Family needs to be touched.

The movies Barry Sonnenfeld did are still fan-frakkin-tastic. I watch them on average once a month and still fall over laughing.

@geesejuggler: I agree with Fezzik, er, Geesejuggler. Which was really my point above.

The movies were so well done, and not that long ago. It's not a needed franchise reboot - and I don't really want it.
