Went to BlobFest in Phoenixville, PA last month.. The original movie still draws thousands, especially on the opening night, when they re-enact the crowd escaping from the theatre.
Do we really need another remake? I think not... Especially from Zombie
i have no respect for rob zombie anymore as all he ever does is either remakes or ripofffs from ohter films.kind of reminds me a little bit of tarantino who loves to rip off other foilks ideas.
and all of you know i must rant about my usual FRakken yarm !!!!
watch the old 50's flick.it is a great fun movie and zombie will never top it ever....
Q: How do you know when a director's persona outweighs his/her work?
A: When io9 spends more effort talking shit about him/her than say Roland Emmerich, Michael Bay, Jerry Bruckheimer, Ang Lee, Joel Schumacher, Uwe Boll, Brett RatnerJason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, Phillip Noyce, Frank Marshall, Kevin Reynolds, Oliver Stone (tee hee), Jeremiah S. Chechik, George Lucas, The Wachowski Bros., BOB CLARK!!!!, Pitof, Keenen Ivory Wayans.
Let's be honest, Zombie is not bad at all, it's just hard to get past Hellbilly Deluxe. Not to mention if he hadn't gotten famous, we never would have had to sit through any Powerman 5000 sets or albums. When Worlds Collide indeed.
@Go Like Hell Machine: My bad. Re-reading my comment I realize it sounds really angry. I don't think io9 Herself has been talking shit, I was just commenting on how much Zombie-hate there is in the comments section. I just feel that in view of all the travesties we discuss daily, Zombie hardly ranks in the bad news department. Ha ha...sorry. I did mean the Oliver Stone jab though. That I will not apologize for.
Personally, I'm going to wait till some details come out to call fail on this. This is his first movie that's somewhat out of the horror genre. That being said he might go into this with a different mind-set than his other movies. This movie is going to make (or "re-make" to be more fitting) or break Zombie. I wish him luck, and say: don't fuck us over, Zombie.
As others have said, I don't understand why this is happening (other than stupidity, laziness, and greed, of course).
The 80s remake was very cool-- I still fake people out whenever I stick my fingers down a sink drain!-- and already did more than enough to update the original storyline.
We all hate YARM in principle, but isn't YARM^2 even worse?
Why doesnt he just go back to music and leave the remakes alone!! Im not overly keen on Rob, but I dont hate him either. But if he keeps this up. He's going to get a bitch slap so hard...he'll be singing like Meatloaf on acid!!
Aw, I loved the original. When I first saw it around age 8, I also had gotten this weird green goo in a jar from the toy store. Said green goo came with various rubber body parts floating inside. I spent an entire afternoon building a Lego city to take over with my own blob. Sadly this was pre-digital cameras, so I have no evidence of this nostalgia.
But back to matters at hand. The most I could see him doing, other than bluh torture horror, is a guy who can go all goo-ey (think Senator Robert Kelly in mutant form) and goes around killing and eating townsfolk.
@laikapants: Actually, that's been done. Ishiro Honda's "The H-Man" featured people, mutated by an H-bomb test, turned into sentient, man-eating goo. Freshly reissued on DVD, and a decent movie too. [io9.com]
