Great.I am sick of having to see PG13 stuff as I am a 53 year old adult who loves blood n gore.

The problem with Chronicles of Riddick was that it didn't feel like the same universe. The first one was this sort of gritty realistic future similar to Alien while the second one was this Gothic space opera similar to Dune or Lord of the Rings in space. I liked the second one but it didn't feel like a sequel, more like an alternate version of the same character.

Am I the only person that actually really, really enjoyed Chronicles of Riddick, flaws and all?

I thought everything about it was incredibly creative, cool and interesting.

Ratings are never a judge of quality, your just as likely to have pointless gore, as unrealistic avoidence. So the fact it isnt "PG-13" is neither here nor there.

However the other comments, like modestly scaled and character-focused etc, its a positive sign.

I loved Pitch Black. Didn't think much of Chronicles.

Chronicles did well on DVD, I hear, so that suggests another sequel is possible.

Sorry, they can't just ignore the fact that he was the king of the most powerful evil empire in space the last time we saw him. I hope there is at least a flashback to show how he screwed it all up. And I hope it involves a huge space fleet battle against the good guys.

@smurph0404: Ah, you but you forget Riddick's frequent habit to say, "Fuck it," and just walk out.

I could totally see him sitting there in the throne room, looking around for a few minutes, maybe with one or two glances at his brainwashed former sidekick, and then he just gets up and silently walks out, killing anyone who tries to stop him.

@Garrison Dean: Riddick does need companions and supporting characters to play his lines off of but I kinda think his badassery works best when he's alone.

He's not a leader, he's not a follower, he's a rebel without a cause. I can totally see him rejecting all the furyan prophecy nonsense and returning to bar brawls with space truckers.

@corpore-metal: I'm down with that but I don't want a movie version of a video game of him silently going through an enclosed space murdering people. I am just a little nervous that is what he could do because it seems that some of this is banking on the success of the games vs. the films.

The Chronicles of Riddick could have been great, actually, like Space-Conan* great, if it wasn't so weirdly paced, and if it didn't have that massively long bit in the middle where he's stuck on the planet where everything's too bright and it's deadly (as opposed to that other movie where everything was too dark and it was deadly... you see what they did?)

I don't think the Necromongers were a bad idea, either, but they were presented in a weird, lop-sided manner. The stuff with the whole "let us brainwash you in horribly painful ways or die" thing was really interesting, and the fanaticism, and the great design, but they focussed in on all the rubbish bits. You know?

I like the Riddick/Conan analogy. First one was excellent, second one was cheesy and over the top. This third one sounds promising.

I know The Chronicles of Riddick was over-served with flaws, but damn if that isn't one of those guilty pleasure flick I have no choice but to watch anytime I find it while channel surfing. And Riddick is a bad-ass, so any chance for Vin Diesel go back to the character, I'm certainly not going to complain. Whether this will be a direct continuation of the last story or simply a different Chronicle altogether, I'm gleefully along for the ride...

I saw Colm Feore play Fagan in Oliver! at the Stratford Festival two years ago (maybe three)? As he was teaching Oliver, I imagined him leaning over and saying "You keep what you kill".
