The one thing that stands out for me about the Crying Game was the idiot who shouted out "OMG! It's A PENIS!!" (duh) when they showed the gal was really a dude.
Stoned... on tryptophan? Thinking this was another American overdependence on drugs to the point of social saturation, I had to look this up. It's just an amino acid present in poultry. It has no hallucinogenic properties. I don't understand.
@Indigen: There's something of an urban legend that the tryptophan in quantities available in a turkey dinner will induce a post-meal torpor, somewhere between quaaludes and your average over-the-counter sleeping aid. This is ... not exactly true, but the joke has been made so often many people believe that it's the case. (In reality, it's just eating a whacking great big meal that will put you into the post-thanksgiving coma - you'd need a LOT more tryptophan for it to affect you itself.)
@amygdala: the first piece of evidence beign that the pies were left virtually untouched...and yet the tray of brownies you 'hid' in the fridge out in the garage...."OH GRANDMA! THOSE AREN'T....nevermind...."
@Davio: Yes. It's as bad as I remember, which is "Not really bad at all, and pretty darn good in parts." It's one of the more successful sequels in SF - it's not exactly an _Aliens_-grade expansion, but it tries hard and mostly succeeds. Plus, it's got Gary Busey losing his tiny little mind even *before* he gets whacked, so, you know.
how in the world did requiem for a dream not make this list is lost on me. nothing represents the holiday better then seeing people destroyed by there addictions.
@Wookie1972: on oct 6 it was iin one theater in NY and later that month it was in one theater in LA. For the rest of the country it was released the day after thanksgiving. for all intents and purposes it was released to the public as a thanksgiving movie,
@Gen. Appithy: Actually, IMDB gives the wide release date as October 27. It was released in Canada on November 3, which is still two weeks before American Thanksgiving.
I actually just saw both The Road and Ninja Assassin today. The Road was pretty decent. Very desolate scenery, and Viggo Mortensen, was pretty good in it. The scene where he shares a Coke with his kid really got to me.
Ninja Assassin, on the other hand, was near a perfect action movie. Good plot for an action movie too. Here's the setting, here's a couple of flash backs to explain the hero, and let me get the hell out of your way. Some cool fight scenes and alot of blood. I loved it.
@syuzhet004: 1) I bet you he sees his hair in this scene and weeps bitter tears. 2) Is that an A&W shirt he's wearing? Did the costumer go to the Salvation Army or something?
I don't understand the use of 'Weirdest' in the title of this article. Is it that these are a weird choice of movies for the studios to release for the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday, or these are weird movies that happened to be released over the holiday? Some of the movies listed don't seem to fit either category.
Now, if the article were titled 'Some Good (and Not Very Good) Movies Released on Thanksgiving Weekend' ...
@Charlie Jane Anders: Why is Star Trek IV an odd choice for Thanksgiving? It's a lighthearted adventure with an important social message about how we treat the other species we share the planet with. I think its perfect holiday movie. It also turned out to be the most successful Star Trek movie until the release of Star Trek 2009.

We saw Fantastic Mr. Fox on Thanksgiving. My husband wanted to see the Road, but I just wasn't in the mood to cry for 2+ hours. Maybe next weekend.
