Never underestimate Timberlake. Post N'Sync (and Disney) he was way out in the wrong zone, but his SNL stuff and touring with the Flaming Lips shows that this guy has some mojo and it just might be the right kind.

For the record, my favorite is the Hal Jordan from New Frontier - that requires an entirely different actor.

@HannoverFist: Hal Jordan wasn't, but in translating this to the movies you almost HAVE to make it a bit snarky. The idea of glowing green stuff being formed out of thin air is inherently not going to be the stuff of heavy drama.
Giant glowing green boxing gloves?
The only way to make Green Lantern a decent movie is to have fun with the concept.

@Magicant: Sadly, knowing Hollywoods obsession for making all comic movies dark and dreary, this seems unlikely. (still bitter that Fantastic Four wasn't allowed to be fun)

@dirtybacon: I hope that's not the case. IMO, the best comic book -> movie scenes were in Spider-Man when Mopey McGuire was testing his powers and reveling in them.

Graeme I rarely agree with you, but this time is the exception. I think Bradley Cooper would do an awesome job as Hal Jordan. He totally has that hot shot test pilot air about him and I think he'd be believable as fearless. Not too mention he has the acting chops to drive home the journey from hot shot to hero.

@modernboy: I think people forget that Cooper isn't just another comedic actor. While his film roles have tended to be in comedies, his roles in Alias and Jack & Bobby on TV each had a healthy dose of drama and seriousness.

I saw him once at this concert in Toronto...he ended up on stage with the Rolling Stones, singing "Miss You" with Mick. It was surreal, but he also showed respect for the people on stage with, not to mention some amazing pipes. So...I don't really listen to his music, but I think he's a solid guy.

As Hal Jordan? I dunno, but why not? Nah, I think Fillion would be better. Or Boreanaz.

I really would like to see Boreanaz do it. He really gives off the feel of being a tough military test pilot dude more than any of the other candidates. JT has the acting chops but he's too much of a babyface, Reynolds is Deadpool and Cooper is the next iteration of Keanu Reeves.

@DennyCrane: DAVID Boreanaz? He's like... 50. And he's not really fun. He's only really good at playing, well, Angel. If you have to take from the Whedonverse, at least pick Nathan Filion. Even Alan Tudyk would be a good GL I think.

Whatever happened to the Chris Pine GL idea? I think he would have been good. He was actually really really funny in Star Trek. I was very impressed with him.

@Pope John Peeps II: Have you ever seen Bones? I think Boreanaz is quite funny on that show, and his acting has improved immensely since the early days of Buffy. I think he showed a lot of range starting in the second season of Angel, and Booth is a very different character than Angel ever was.

He is a little older than the character should be, maybe, but how old are we supposed to think Hal Jordan is? He always seemed around 30.

So a stiff, a funny action man (who wont be available because of Deadpool) or a singer/dancer who cant do either. Hell, get Jack black to do it now, for all the casting is worth!! Thor should be played by John Goodman, Captain America should be Pee-wee Herman and the ne wDredd film should have Jim Carrey as Dredd. Fuck people...lets shake it up a bit..*sigh!

@NotArthurPDragon: Please don't refer to anyone 5 years older than me as middle-aged! That being said, while I'm a huge fan of Fillion, he is about 10 years older than the typical youngest test pilot, but his personality/wit/humor would be dead on.
It's obvious the studio wants to "go young" to play up the storyline of young/brash/cocky guy gets a load of responsibility dropped on him and has to grow up on the job.
Of the three listed, I'd have to go with Cooper first, Timberlake second. Reynolds is DQ'd for Deadpool reasons - and he's the perfect Deadpool because he's great at playing the young/brash/cocky guy who doesn't mature...

Of those three, I'd go with Cooper. It'd give a nice snarky flavor to Green Lantern. Ryan Reynolds is okay, but I agree - one actor for two different superheroes makes little sense. Justin's funny, but he's campy funny.
For my money, I still like Nathan Fillion - the trailer's already done!

@Magicant: Agreed. He has the most heroic face, and does an excellent job as an actor, in my opinion. Reynolds' star power is a bit too goofy for the part--and he's already tied up playing Deadpool, no?--and Timberlake would pretty much make overwrought sexy faces throughout and then likely request a dance sequence as well as at least two singles on the soundtrack. I know he's a talented comic actor, but I don't really want my Green Lantern movie getting confused with a marketing vehicle to help JT go even more triple-threat.

Sorry, I'd rather see anyone as GL than Cooper. The guy is a one note stiff. Attempts by him to "man up" in Midnight Meat Train were so laughable that even Timberlake in Alpha Dog comes off tougher than him. Which mean RR is the choice of the three.

@Plague: To be fair, I kind of saw his inability to man up in Meat Train to be written in to the character, but whatever. Cooper has an illustrious and lucrative career in front of him doing Rom Coms and probably pseudo political action thrillers. Ryan Reynolds has had his chance at a couple of Comic book movies already (though I do love him).

I Say give it to JT! Lets see what happens. If that walking piece of drywall Brandon Routh managed to pull off Superman I figure a guy with some built in charisma could do Green Lantern.

@Davio: Maybe it was just my own personal bias - I like my super-heroes light and fun. Not much of that going around these days.
Interesting that comic movies are in that deep, dark place where comics were 15 years ago and now comics have come back around to be lighter (some of them, anyway).
