Don't forget "Fiend Without A Face," with evil brains from outer space!

Doctor Who, just by virtue of being on so long, has gone through nearly every trope in the sci-fi-verse.

Daleks & Cybermen (as well as Morbius) - brains in robot (or cybernetic) bodies.

Masters of Morphotron - Evil Lords of Braininess (from The Keys of Marinus).

    The Rani's artificial super-brain.

The Ood Brain, which is naturally-occurring and benign, so I guess it's a random weird disembodied brain. That can still eat people, but it's not evil - just misunderstood! #startrek

Not exactly part of the brain-in-a-jar category but what about that horrible movie, "Mars Attacks!" ? #startrek

No love for Hector Con Carne? It's the brain of an evil genius in a jar attached to a purple circus bear (and his stomach too). #startrek

oh, on Krang from TMNT- he was a version of the characters from the B/W comic, who were alies of the turtles. their entire race was born as brain-folk, and they constructed bipedal mech suits to aid them in complicated physical labor tasks, when they crashed on earth, they used them as disguises to move about us unnoticed.

i can't remember the name of their race off hand... anyone? #startrek

There's a wonderful short story by Michael Swanwick and Eileen Gunn called "Zeppelin City" on tor.com that has brains in jars. It has a very nifty Jazz Age Buster Crabbe Deiselpunk feel to it. Read it now!

@tamoko: Embarrasingly, I only know it from MST3k, although I admit that even in their version the movie's noir edge comes through. It's like a James Ellroy version of a sci-fi movie.

What about the cyborg in Saturn 3? The robot shell contains a brain packed separately which, when incorporated, then takes an imprint from its owner/teacher/superior(?) Unfortunately, Harvey Keitel's is the brain. And he's nuts.

I seem to recall it ends up wearing his head as a hat. #startrek

Not exactly a "brain in a jar", but I can't help but think of the character Rhesus 2 from "Captain Simian And The Space Monkeys".

Remember that Saturday AM cartoon from the 90s? It's what Star Trek would have been... with monkeys. And PitComs rather than Communicators.

Here is the 411 on Rhesus 2:

Species: Part rhesus monkey, part machine; with interchangeable monkey brains
    Voiced by: Malcolm McDowell
Fav. Phrase: I changed my mind.
Fav. Phrase 2: A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

"This combination madman and mechanical monkey is always willing to share his mind...in exchange for yours.

A deranged egocentric who toadies only to the being who rebuilt him, Rhesus 2 is the most dangerous foe Captain Simian and his crew has faced.... Always spinning a pun when attacking to torment his victims, Rhesus 2 can dispose of his brain on any old whim and so often does preferring to feast on the brains of his victims. His ego being what it is he tends to design his machinations of evil after himself, heavily armed robot shells with bigger brains." #startrek

The Titans from the Dune Legends books (Butlerian Jihad, Machine Crusade, Battle of Corrin) are all brains in robot bodies that enslaved humanity, and there were some other brains in jars full of blue liquid who just floated around thinking for thousands of years, tended to by monks.

Thou shalt not make a machine in the likeness of a human mind.#Dune
