Well, it can't be that bad. It's not a "watch instantly" movie at Netflix. #theterror

"The Terror" was a cheap quickie even by Corman's standards. He had the sets left of from "The Raven" and "The Haunted Palace." Corman even shot extra movement and transitional scenes featuring Karloff thinking he could edit the footage into a usable film. Jack Hill and Francis Coppola also shot some footage for this one. If I remember correctly, they threw this one in the pot in about a week. #theterror

don't get me wrong, i love terrible movies (especially Corman outings). but this is unwatchable. i have tried a few times over the years and always end up falling asleep. of note: this was Jack's first starring role, and they made it for the sole pourpose of getting as much mileage out of sets they had built for another production. not sure what the other one was off the top of my head, but that was pretty standard Corman practice.

do yourself a favor and watch the Corman produced, Paul Bartel (the one and only) directed- Death Race 2000.

...you even get to see Mary Woronov's boobies! ....again... #theterror

@Bootknife-Jackson: Ohhh... loves me some Death Race 2000. Two words: Hand grenade.

Although as far as the Corman's go I still contest his honestly best movie was Rock and Roll High School. It's fun, witty, awesome music, and had working on it basically some of the best filmmakers/crew of the 80's before their big breaks.

@Sunshineyness: i THINK that was also helmed by Bartel. and i believe Woronov is also in it. (she was also a part of the Warhol Factory in the 60's)

if you want to see the Bartel/Woronov magnum opus, check out Eating Roul. the sci-fi connection you ask, IO9ers? well that would be the fact that it 'introduces' Robert Beltran, Commander Chekoty from Star Trek Voyager. #theterror

I watched this movie in the early 80's, and we thought it was super cheesy back then. Not sure I could take it now. #theterror

@Evil Tortie's Mom: R.O.A.C.H.: I would recommend watching this with the original Stepford Wives, and wash it down with Westworld.

Seriously. I had a Cheesy Movie Night where everyone had to come and bring an era appropriate food item.

Roger Corman was made for this kind of thing. #theterror

I love this movie! It is beyond stupid.

"The Terror" is from before Jack could act, and attempts to achieve an air of mystery by moving at a glacial pace and making hardly any sense. Also, it has birds flying around a graveyard, Jack being an arrogant French jerk with a New York accent, Boris Karloff tottering around in his dotage, and Napoleonic-era politics. Oh, and at the end of the movie, pretty much everybody but Jack is dead, so he rides away on his horse like Kip and LaFawnduh riding off at the end of "Napoleon Dynamite".

I'm just amazed MST3K never got after it. #theterror

Footage from this movie was used in Peter Bogdanovich's "Targets," which starred Boris Karloff as an aging horror star. The footage was weaved into the storyline. Good flick about a young sniper.

@gorehound: Jack Nicholson also had a part in "Little Shop of Horrors" in 1960, another Roger Corman film.

Judging by these clips, it looks like the plot is padded by quite a bit of circular dialogue, an essential ingredient for a wonderfully bad movie.
    "Come with me"
    "But the dead!"
"Don't worry about the dead, you're with me"
"But I can't leave til we destroy the dead"
"People in france can fix your batshitness. Say 'the dead' one more time and I'll clock ya" #theterror

@IraeNicole: You ever seen the behind the scenes footage that Kubrik's daughter took on the set of The Shining? It's delightful because it's totally clear she's smitten with Jack Nicholson by the way she oggles him with the camera.

Not that I blame her... (I admit I totally crush on Nicholson in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest) #theterror
