While I can certainly understand the genius of this movie, I didn't really like it. It just didn't speak to me. The scene shown is a perfect example. Absolutely brilliant film making but leaves me a bit "meh". I guess I didn't care that much about our hero and couldn't empathize with his plight.
I feel the same way about "2001". I can understand how the movie is a work of genius, but I just can't seem to stay awake. It just bores me to tears. I know the story, I love the classic lines, all that. I just can't seem to actually like the movie. #music
@Starlionblue: I certainly would not call Jacob's Ladder a work of genius. I don't think it's anywhere close to 2001. Jacob's Ladder was creepy and interesting until the big reveal, which I thought was pretty lame. #music
@franklinshepard: When did you see it? I would submit that those who saw it when it came out would be more impressed by it than those who saw it more recently. (The demons, the reveal -- these things had been done before, but have been done many more times since.) If you saw it at the time and still weren't impressed, then we'll agree to disagree. It was freaky as shit. #music
@j.blo: I saw it maybe 10 years ago. I can't say how I would've felt had I seen it in 1990. But I would say that truly great movies remain great, no matter how much time passes. #music
It took me years to finally get to see this movie. I loved it - the somewhat cthulhuesque tentacles in the subway train were especially wonderful. #music
This was definitely a seminal film of the era, and truly incredible. If I ever run into Tim Robbins somewhere, I hope to be able to tell him how awesome I thought it was.
Also, that scene isn't necessarily the best example, but Elizabeth Pena couldn't really have been any sexier than in this film. #music
