Does no one else think he looks like an English professor? And not the cool kind, but the one who endlessly quotes obscure poets just to show off how smart he is, and corrects everyone's grammer when they talk.
The TARDIS though, looks pretty good. That's a really bright blue that's sure to POP when seen in HD. And so is that Companion.
@92BuickLeSabre: I never grew up with The Doctor, so the 9th and 10th have really been it for me (yes, I've seen pictures and video of the others, but those aren't MY Doctors). After the street clothes of the 9th and the geek chic of the 10th, the outfit for the 11th feels like a step-backwards.
Just feels very stuffy and elitist to me. 'Cept for the hair, which screams Emo.
Anyone else find it odd that the new Doctor's outfit is a play on the 2nd Doctor's as well as the return of an "older" model TARDIS shell? Are we seeing some hint of a previous continuity about to come into play? Zoe, Jamie, the Krotons? or something a bit more mysterious with the return of Gallifrey and the Time Lords?
WHY are we not talking about how completely adorable Amy's outfit is?
Seriously, I have owned a pair of converse high-tops for years, and have never figured out how to wear them with skirts. But the grey tights and bright top and micro-mini, totally the way to go. It's not cosplay if you're just stealing a character's style rather than, like, slavishly recreating it, right??
Incredible... They're actually trying to capture the spirit of the early shows for real.. And written by Moffat - maybe this'll end the complaints about better in the old days? Snark aside, I am pleasantly surprised!
Didn't River say that when she met Tennant's Doctor, it was the youngest she had ever seen him? This wouldn't make sense if Smith were the first Doctor she'd met.
@OthelloCabaim: Obviously, she was intended to have met Tennant multiple times, which now won't be seen, but we'll just assume she has some way of seeing the Doctor's true age, regardless of what face he's wearing at the time.
Considering that Timelords have no difficulty recognizing eachother even after regenerating (well, when the script writers remember or find it convenient tho the plot), then perhaps there's some "ancient Timelord secret" that The Doctor has clued River Song in to.
OK. OK. I'm going to be calm. He's dressed like someone even nerds would pick on. There's that hair to be dealt with. His companion looks young enough to be selling Girl Guide cookies with her mom. The Tardis is entirely too bright.
Panic rising. Does anyone have a paper bag I can breathe into?
@Julius Seizure.: I hate to repeat myself (Lie, I love it!), but she really is the same age as plenty of great companions. Nyssa, Jo Grant, Victoria, Adric (Just kidding!). Rose was basically the same age.
Den of Geek's "10 Companions Younger" has been posted a couple of times already, but I think it's right on the money.
Has anyone thought that Tennant's Doctor put her in that "virtual afterlife" so that he could rescue her later? He is a Time Lord, after all -- he can do anything. Right?
I developed an immediate and irrational hatred for River Song, so I'm not exactly excited, but I'm getting more used to the idea of Matt Smith as the Doctor. I do kind of like the sleeves on that dress Alex Kingston is wearing (lol ugg boots).
@Sheena: Finally someone who feels that way too. I didn't like River Song and I've never understood why everybody seemed to think she was the best thing on Doctor Who evar.
@Sheena: Of all the characters introduced in Moffat episodes, she is my least favorite too. A lot of that has to do with the obnoxious way her story ended, though. When I'd only seen the first half, I thought she was pretty all that.
Plus I appreciated finally seeing some curly hair on Doctor Who. :) So I am pissed that it's styled all to hell (lovely style, but her natural curls are fabulous!) in these pics.
@Isernbreegen: Actually, this is the first I've heard of anyone really liking her (I didn't pay much attention to internet reaction, just what my friends thought and I think they were all kind of
"meh"). I'm surprised.
@Elizabeth Weinbloom: I think part of what annoyed me was that her relationship with the doctor was left hanging, and made a pretty huge dangling plot thread...
Maybe it was also the fact that if anyone suddenly started talking to me about all sorts of important things we'd shared that hadn't happened yet (uh...assuming I was a time traveler) I'd actually get really pissed off. It seems...presumptuous, if understandable. But beyond that...yeah, irrational hatred is irrational.
@Sheena: And I pay way too much attention to internet reaction *sigh* ... I suppose we might be talking about the usual vocal minority here. Had the feeling everybody loved here.
Now, as I said elsewhere - bring back Sally Sparrow instead!
It should also be noted that the filming currently taking place appears to be for episode 4, and SFX is reporting that River Song is slated to appear in two episodes.
That probably means that this is a 2-parter, but it's also possible that she'll tag along with the TARDIS crew for a second adventure like Martha Jones did in "The Doctor's Daughter."
Additionally, they're back to filming more scenes on the beach tomorrow, but Wednesday - Friday they will be moving on to the Forest of Dean (previously used in Primeval and Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows)
Did they do a little something to bring out the wood grain of the TARDIS? nice touch.
The new kids look very cute. Love the bow tie and the Chuck Taylors. Oh sure, a trace of the current hipster "style" there, but I'm sure the writing will be fun not snotty, with a healthy dose of smarts and monsters.

Or to put it another way, it's not cosplay if no one would know it was cosplay.
Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go grab my scarf and hat.
