I'd be far more inclidend to watch NPH host the Tony awards than just about anyone else, but damn it, that first paragraph of yours got me all excited, because I thought for a moment they were letting him host it in character, which would have been the most awesome thing ever!

Even more so, if they got Joss to pen a few new songs, and then started the evening off by taking the entire audience hostage, and blasting the crap out of Nathan Lane. Oh, and Moist should also get to sing his "Nobody Loves You When You're Moist" number from the DVD commentary.

I know this is a SciFi blog and all, but I think its perfectly acceptable here to note that he is f'ing brilliant in How I Met Your Mother.

@DeepFriar: I didn't feel right mentioning it in the post, but here in the comments? "F'ing brilliant" doesn't even begin to describe how incredible he is on that show. He's responsible for about 90% of the awesomeness of that show, although that does admittedly shortchange the awesomeness of Jason Segel and Alyson Hannigan.

@Mathmos: I love NPH in the Harold and Kumar movies - his scenes are roughly a thousand times as good as anything else in those movies, but I figured I should keep this music/sci-fi relevant. And believe me, I took no pleasure in ignoring his utterl hilarious work in How I Met Your Mother.

Pedant alert: NPH was not in Sweeney on Broadway. He did a few concerts of it in New York and LA but never played the role in a Broadway production. Not that that matters, just the way that sentence reads is slightly misleading. He also has several regional theatre credits around the county.

@franklinshepard: For what's it worth, here's what it said on Wikipedia:

"Harris has worked on Broadway in both musical and dramatic roles. He played Tobias Ragg in 2001 concert performances of Sweeney Todd."

I guess I should know what a "concert performance" is, but my source itself was fairly misleading. Either way, it's my bad and it's now fixed.

And yes, I'm aware there's no better way to destroy my own defense than I admit I sourced from Wikipedia.

@franklinshepard: Oh hush, you. Complaining about the crappiness of the Tony broadcast is as time-honored a tradition as giving 12+ nominations to the big budget tourist-friendly musical and presenters who haven't crossed a stage since college.

He is brilliant! Prop 8 the Musical deserves mention as well as Dr Horrible and HIMYM.

@it must be bunnies: It actually annoys me quite a bit when I see Prop 8 The Musical mentioned in the same breath as Dr. Horrible. Actual quality of the material aside (and I personally think one is far superior to the other), Prop 8 was just a stage show that happened to be filmed. Dr. Horrible uses its medium for legit.
