@gigshaft: In fairness, that's probably because he hasn't died yet - the regeneration has (almost) always been part of the canon, so it's not like he's apparently died as William Hartnell and then been reborn next season as Patrick Troughton.

I see where you're coming from, but this is too much of a cheating death device to be included as a faux death one, imho. #startrek

On the topic of resurrection, has anyone else been keeping track of how many times Sam and Dean die in Supernatural? I watched it once, then re-watched them with my husband (had to introduce him to the show because of the cars and music) and the second time through I almost fell out of my chair laughing every time a Winchester died. It's like a drinking game. #startrek

I showed this article to my mom and sister, which then launched into this arguement on whether or not Spock actually died. This is, of course, after the long lecture from my mom on why time travel is implausible and sucks as a story line. Having a geek family is a two-edged sword.

*Update: Does Deadpool and/or Anyone from Smallvile count?

    Allison (Young) from Palmdale.
    Died: 2026
    Undied: altered future 2007-2026
Cause of death: Trachea crushed after interrogation by Terminator Cameron, ostensibly for failure-to-cooperate in an attempt to kill 2026 John Connor.
Does it count as death: "Apparently not".....

    Allison's failure-to-cooperate was a self-sacrificial attempt to save John Connor in 2026.
Which may or may not have worked.
Terminator Cameron was caught, whilst attempting to kill John, scrubbed and sent back to 1999 to find John and jump him forward to 2007.
2007 John and Cameron caused the removal from Depot 37 of the Coltan that Terminator Cameron would have been built from, at Depot 37 in 2026, thus preventing Cameron from existing in 2026 and killing Allison. Thus establishing a future where Allison continues to live.
Later John jumps from 2009 to this 2026.
Thus establishing a future where no John Connor had existed since 2009 because he had jumped out of its past.
So John and Allison then exist together again in an altered future 2026.

Cameron's chipless endoskeleton is left back in this future's 2009 past, along with the physical Turk/John Henry AI (which may have merged with Cameron's chip either just prior to the jump or earlier when Cameron's chip briefly merged with the (Crom?)ARTIE traffic control network) and Sarah Connor.
Cameron's chip (+AI?) is in Cromartie's endoskeleton along with Terminator Catherine Weaver in this future, with a live Kyle Reese and Uncle Derek Reese,
    who.....
    Died: 2009
    Undied: altered future 2009-2026
Cause of death: "Bullet to the brainpan, squish."
Does it count as death: Every death counts. #startrek

It's still not that compelling a series. A lot of plot resolutions are apparent from the character's intentions at the very beginning of the story, not to mention that a lot of character development has to necessarily remain stunted so it remains in the timeline with the movies.

Honestly, it was handled a lot better by Genndy Tartakovsky, who decided to treat the Clone Wars as a series of moments. If you try to create large arcing stories, you have expectations of actual plot or character development, but that never happens. But if you turn it into a series of timeless moments, like Sergio Leone movies, the lack of plot or character development is an artistic choice rather than a hindrance.

I dunno, just my 2 cents.

@DRaGZ: dunno, i've never been a fan of tartakovsky's quasi-minimalist animation style and grew bored with his clone wars eventually.

the CGI series was the opposite -- barely registered with me at first, but after a while it started snowballing. the episode they aired this last week was nothing short of amazing. #starwarstheclonewars

@DRaGZ: I feel it's incredibly compelling because we, as the audience, know what Anakin eventually ends up doing. It's very strange and wonderful to see him during this phase because for far too long, I've only thought of him as Lord Vader.

Knowing that he really was an upstanding Jedi Knight and watching it all unfold makes his fall even more horrible. #starwarstheclonewars

@Adam Grant: Not just with Anakin, either. I think that all of this puts not only Vader but also Obi-Wan and Yoda into different lights when you revisit the original trilogy. It also makes Palpatine's ultimate victory that much more impressive, that he engineered not just a fall from grace but also a near-eradication of the Jedi history, from what we see once ANH comes around. #starwarstheclonewars

@Kurt Roithinger: There were like less than two hours of the entire series, hard to grow bored with that. I love Samurai Jack though.

@Adam Grant: Anakin's transformation always felt fake. If anything, this just makes it feel even more fake. In fact, the entirety of Revenge of the Sith just felt fake and forced. This series doesn't help matters. I mean, clearly Ahsoka is playing a big part in Anakin's life. How could there just be no mention of it later in the films? If she isn't killed and let's say just went away, doesn't he feel strange betraying his padawan?

I dunno, if anything it just makes everything much more awkward, and I think the developers of this series knows that, so they're just sorta running with their own thing. #starwarstheclonewars

    11:24 PM

@Kurt Roithinger: Genndy's take on the Clone Wars treated it as a series of awesome vignettes that were loosely connected together. Instead of trying to pursue quasi-development of characters, it tried to place characters in setpieces that revealed what they might do in certain situations.

What would Mace Windu do when facing an army of droids and a city-flattening machine without a lightsaber? How do Jedis fight underwater? What would Anakin and Ventress do to each other?

That made it a lot more interesting.

On the other hand, this Clone Wars series is more serialized in nature, depending on the development of factions and alliances that necessarily have to conveniently disappear by the time the third film comes around.

If could just ignore the third film and have these stories go crazy, that would be nice. But they can't because they're bound by the resolution of the third film. So, ultimately, everything that happens here is meaningless. It's as though the series were structured as an extremely long sitcom episode: there has to be a return to normalcy by the end of the series, you're just waiting to see how it happens.
