I'm always surprised at all the hate towards this film, and Michael Bay in particular... not because they in themselves are top quality, but that the haters who criticize it were unable to stay home and save their money--yet still expect to be taken seriously as intelligent movie fans.
Because I know all the people complaining actually saw the movie. Maybe this very phenomena I'm describing is itself some sort of sci-fi, mass-hysteria thingie. #transformersrevengeofthefallen

Michael Bay and Co. have become this huge punching bag, I think it's unwarranted, and I think the movie is being attacked not so much because it is bad but because it is cool to hate Transformers, just like it's cool to hate neo-cons and tea-baggers.
Now, if you saw the movie with the best of intentions, sure your opinion is valid.. you just didn't like the movie. But TF2 has earned some sort of special hate status, where it's not even about the movie anymore, its just about letting everyone know how smart and filmtastic you are for hating it.
A lot of these folks complain about how if we keep supporting Bay, we will continue to get more "horrible movies". This type of filmgoer reads early reviews, reads comments about scripts, test screenings.... I'm talking about the average i09 reader, who knows way more about these movies than is normal or healthy. THEY are the ones who are supporting the very thing they are complaining about by paying money to see a movie they know in their hearts, the critics already hate.
As for the people who never actually saw it, but just want to make Jar Jar comparisons because that's fun, I don't know what percentage of them are adding to the hating on Bay, as we are on the honor system.

But it has become the popular thing to bash, I suppose, I'll give you that. That's the funny thing: How many other bad summer tentpole picks are we still talking about? Wolverine: Origins? Forgotten, practically, but fucking awful. Terminator Salvation? Total piece of shit, but are we still talking about it? Fuck no. By comparison, it's almost surreal how such a 'bad' movie STILL gets talked about, and sticks out in our consciousness.
I suppose I'm just divorced from the whole thing because I didn't froth-at-the-mouth-HATE it when. I just... thought it was a dumb movie. The first one was dumb, the second one was too dumb for me.
It seems unusually cruel to piss all over the hardwork of all the little guys who make a film by swiping it: After all, it took a lot of really talented people to make it, good or no... but, unfortunately, that's the way it is. I really doubt it's that big in the end: Five bucks says anyone who puts it on the resume isn't going to get shot down for putting it there, bad reviews of the film aside. And furthermore, movies are art, whether you like it or not. It doesn't have to be high art, but it has to appeal to *something*. You make art, you put yourself up for criticism, good or bad. I don't think that's unfair at all. #transformersrevengeofthefallen

I think a movie that makes you think that way, did something unique.
It's being criticized for not conforming to pre-conceived notions of what it SHOULD have been. I don't know if people are seeing it for what it is....Insane.
But no one wants to come out and say they appreciate it on that level, because people are so quick to question your taste in film. "Moon is for smart people, TF2 is for dumb people."
Maybe both are for people who like to be entertained?
Anyhow... I'm still getting over Running Man.

I thought TF2 was great but the plot was ass and some of the non-action scenes were jst head scratchers. For what it was though it was a good time. I certainly hope that he tightens up the story in TF3 but I paid to see Optimus and the Autobots beat on Decipticon ass, simple as that. The whole Fallen thing was stupid, but only because they made him very powerful and he was only in the movie for a total of maybe seven minutes. There is a lot that can be done with that universe and as long as get to see robots punch each other I am fine with it lacking a very good story. Plus I really want to see Megan Fox get ripped in half at the beginning of the next movie that would be epic sauce. The one thing I did like about TF2 actor wise was Sam's parents and John Tururro, they elevated the movie with their acting.
I would also like to point out the Kurtzman and Orci wrote the movie, so people shouldn't be so quick to slam Micheal Bay. They can pass the buck all they want but they still wrote it. #transformersrevengeofthefallen
