I think it would be interesting to keep "Buck" as a 1930s or WWII fighter pilot. We would have a post singularity 25th century with all the genetic quantum nano whatzis that contemparary SciFic fans are used to reading and watching; but interpreted through the eyes of man to whom the atomic bomb was still fantasy.

Chris Robeson did something like this in a fun book called Paragea.

I think it could work if it was something like Brian "Buck" Rogers...that way you can keep the title but only be required to use the goofy name once in the movie.

@vrey_oneida: Okay he's a fighter pilot so "Buck" is his old callsign like "Maverick" or "Iceman". It would be painted on the cockpit of his plane (A prop fighter, like a Mustang or a Corsair, not a jet). When he's revived in the future the Dr. Huer and his team figure his name is Buck.

"Actually guys it's just this dumb nickname my squad gave me. I always hated it."

"Ou! Please to forgive. The absence of offense was only intention. Addressed as 'Mr. Rogers' perhaps is most suitable?"

"Uh...nah, Doc. Whenever I hear 'Mr. Rogers' I look around for my pa. You can call me Melvin."
