Let's face it - it was bad writing. Ron has gotten lazy the last couple seasons.
It's not that they had to correct a plot hole that is the problem. Shit happens. It's just the way they abruptly dropped it in - it was sloppy, it was contextually unwarranted.
Anyone believe that Callie slept with Hot Dog a few weeks before she married Tyrol? Raise your hands.
I rest my case.
Plus, who gives a crap. Tyrol is a different type of cylon anyway. Plus Tigh and Six had a baby and cylons aren't even supposed to reproduce.
@Craig Michael Ranapia: Instead they marry men who beat them so severely they have to get their jaws wired shut. Which I find pretty distasteful but nastier things have happened. And twDarkflame I don't live in "tv-soap land".
Is it believable that Callie's character did this based on how she has been portrayed and written?
No.
It is believable that some people might do this in real life?
Yes.
Are these two the same question?
Not at all.
In fact, "retconning" as it is referred to, is generally disliked by fans because it seeks to introduce new information about characters that change how the writers portrayed them previously. BSG is doing this more frequently, e.g. Gaeta going from being a conflicted agent of the resistance and the state on New Caprica - to being someone who was easily manipulated by someone who was fucking him.
Horrid writing, in other words. Come on, anybody with half a brain should have been able to see fan backlash against that. Especially since the child looks nothing like a latino and is chubby, with fair complexion and light colored eyes/hair.
I really hate when shit like this happens. Who was supposed to be the Devil's Advocate in these writer meetings and why hasn't he slapped the shit out of RDM and some of these poor retcons. And other lame writing decisions.
@I_Like_Rabbits: Um, I am Latino, and have baby pictures that look very much like that little noseminer.
I never liked Callie, I honestly thought shooting her out of an airlock was the best thing that could have happened to her.I also like the idea that Tyrol wasn't the father because this explains a little of why he hated Callie so much in the first place.
@I_Like_Rabbits: Um... enlighten me here... who's supposed to be Latino. Callie? Tyrol? Hotdog? I'm seriously missing something if so. I thought Nicholas looked like both of his supposed parents. In fact, the only major Latino characters in the show that I knew of were Gaeta and the Adamas. Hell, look at Lee... he's not "classically" Latino looking. I mean c'mon, if you go to Brazil, you'll see people ranging from pale with blonde hair and blue eyes to people with dark, African skin and kinky hair. Just sayin'.
