    Yeah, I've never seen umbrella bags. I either just carry it around, or if I really need it stowed and dry, put it in the sleeve it came in (isn't that what it's for?).

    Yup. The plastic bags are still everywhere in Yokohama. Maybe the future only came to Tokyo.

    Um, who in the States shoves their wet umbrellas in plastic bags? It's the Japanese that are crazy about baggint their wet umbrellas. When I was in Tokyo a lot of places had plastic bag umbrella dispenser things, you'd just shove your umbrella into the slot and pull it out covered with a plastic bag. Whereas in America most people just carry their wet folded up umbrellas around with them.

    This isnt a futurisitic umbrella design.

    THIS IS;

    [www.yankodesign.com]

    That design squeeze's the mosture out as you close it, is wind proof, much harder to break, AND its much more simple to make.

    Theres really no reason for us to continue using the current design.

    So if we uses a space age umbrella dryer, there will be no more plastic bags?

    Have to agree with Illogic. Hats and hooded coats work fine and free up your hand.

    Gonna have to go with the force-fossil above me - who the heck uses bags? it would keep the moisture in, leading to accelerated wear and potential growth of mold or what have you. besides, that's dumb when you can just shake it off and/or leave it open in the entryway to air-dry.

    @Themindtaker:

    Hah! I've never been called that before, but I think that I've found a new alias.

    I can see the reasons for wanting a bag, for storage, but ways to quickly dry it off? a) it's only going to get wet again when you go outside, meaning it's a useless exercise and b) it's a waste of energy. Bah.

    Damn Japanese. They're going to look like real fools when the polar bears get their armor back and march on our squishy pink asses!

    Why use an umbrella in the first place? The damned thing only gets in the way.

    And people look hotter with their hair wet anyway.
