This surge in vampire movies makes me miss the heady days of my callow youth when the only vampire movie in the theaters was Bram Stoker's Dracula directed by the inimitable Francis Ford Coppola and staring the talents of Gary Oldman, Winona Ryder, Anthony Hopkins, and Keanu Reeves. Now that was a vampire movie I could sink my teeth into. #vamps
Stop it. Just stop it. Enough with shitty vampire movies.
While I do not consider myself a misogynist nor advocate violence against women, I think that Stephanie Meyer, Anne Rice, and now Amy Heckerling need to each be punched in the back of the head.
Also, the entire cast and crew of "Angel", "Forever Knight", and "Underworld" need to have badgers let loose upon them. #vamps
What is wrong with us? I mean, I get it, we're Americans when we like something we just want more and more until we cannot stand it anymore. I know this first hand as someone who goes through "cereal phases" where I eat one kind of cereal all the time until the sight of it makes me sick. (RIP Fruity Pebbles) Now, it's time for America to do to vampire flicks what I did with General Mills, turn away, take a break and come back to it when we're ready to pace ourselves. #vamps
Being a man, the entire vampire trend has completely passed me by, and I feel at a severe disadvantage because I realize I am missing out on a major cultural phenomena, yet can't seem to care enough to change that. My future children will ask if I saw these movies in the theater, and I will look like a clueless dad.
I remember seeing Lost Boys though, and thinking it was cool. Even had the soundtrack cassette. It was a simpler time.
I know Heckerling is talented, I did see Loser... but I have almost no memory of the film itself. I'm pretty sure it had the girl from American Beauty and the guy from Anything Else.
@cylon_conspiracy: I'm curious as to whether you've skipped the whole vampire thing because you're a man...or because you're just not interested in any of their manifestations?
One of the things I love about vampires is that they're represented in so many different ways. You have the humanoid monsters of 30 Days of Night, the shiny, sensitive ones of Rice and Meyer, the mix of both in Buffy...Near Dark came out around the same time as Lost Boys and was a damn good vampire movie. #vamps
@cylon_conspiracy: "Seems." Let's not forget 30 Days of Night, Daybreakers, Let the Right One In (which is, ok, technically teen romance), Underworld (which might as well be teen romance), Blood the Last Vampire, True Blood (which sure, gets lumped with Twilight but is about adult relationships and mystery), Vampire Assistant and Priest are all projects that have ridden the vampire craze wave that aren't at all like OC or Gossip Girl with vampires. They're all relatively different despite the obvious common themes that just inextricably accompany vampires in any narrative. #vamps
But as a non-vampire enthusiast, that stuff is being overshadowed by teen romances. You know this to be true. If you asked a normal person if they liked vampire movies, they would think you were talking about twilight's new moon.
Let the right one in is a movie I've heard really good things about, I know it's being remade in america too.
But I traditionally just don't enjoy horror all that much.

You're right. It makes me sad. I guess I'm trying to do a little bit of outreach in hopes that people won't be turned off by vampires completely because they are inundated with only one (particularly annoying) type.
(Full disclaimer: I'm anxiously awaiting New Moon.)#vamps
Question: I absolutely hate everything to do with vampires (since as long as I can remember), and seeing photos of very pretty people with blood running down their mouths fills me with rage. Does that mean I'm a werewolf?

How many different genres can we smush vampires and zombies into until people get super bored? #vamps

I don't really care either way, but as far as I can tell, Vampires + Sex in the City = interesting premise.
I'm sure Heckerling could bleed some interesting angle out of the Vampire trope. #vamps
