The problem with Chronicles of Riddick was that it didn't feel like the same universe. The first one was this sort of gritty realistic future similar to Alien while the second one was this Gothic space opera similar to Dune or Lord of the Rings in space. I liked the second one but it didn't feel like a sequel, more like an alternate version of the same character.
Ratings are never a judge of quality, your just as likely to have pointless gore, as unrealistic avoidence. So the fact it isnt "PG-13" is neither here nor there.
However the other comments, like modestly scaled and character-focused etc, its a positive sign.
I've always enjoyed Cohen's films with a grain of salt and occasionally he's really good/bad like with xXx and Fast and Furious but too often he is a big budget Uwe Boll as anyone who has seen Dragonheart or Mummy 3 can attest to. Wait... they both had dragons hrm. Maybe that's the problem!!!
Wait, no Stealth had no dragons and was still a pile of shit even with super planes and Jessica Biel.
Point is. This franchise can continue but hand it off to someone like the Crank guys to just go crazy with it because that is all that made xXx2 enjoyable.
It's all karma for xXx - you can't go around thinking you can take out James Bond as the world's #1 spy just because you've got a go-go-gadget muscle car, Xtreme sports, and some pop culture references...
@TemporalSword: Yeah, but those kinds of movies do great at the box office due to their at-the-moment appeal. Which is probably why studios have to keep releasing new ones in order to keep the public aware. My friend works at Dreamworks and he says they pretty much have the graphics down to a grindmill level now, and they're just working on the jokes. Sigh. Go Pixar!
Why not Lex Luthor or a low carb Kingpin. Maybe mome amaglam of the two. I could totally see him as the head of a criminal empire with corporate fronts and political ties. A big, strapping smooth-talker in exquisite Italian suits who could throw a disappointing henchman through a wall.

@AngryEddy: My dad knows every single 007 movie, and he still refuses to acknowledge the existence of Timothy Dalton.
