Man, the weird thing about this is that it makes all those old miniature shots from old films like James Bond, or Godzilla, where they blew giant things up in the water look more real.
@Garrison Dean: There is a cool bonus documentary on the US release of the Rodan/War of the Gargantuas DVD about the Toho SFX department. They recreate an undersea volcanic eruption for the feature, and it looks a LOT like these photos.
