I gotta say, it's still a slight shadow of it's original self, but I am enjoying the show more and was very surprised when the one V turned out to be 5th Column.
I have seen the future of this show, and it is not good. It goes on Hiatus after the next episode, to return in the spring. Many people forget it ever existed. When it returns, ABC over-advertises some soapy grey's anatomy/desperate housewives clone since the middle aged housewife demographic is bigger than the genre fan demographic. They put V on Friday night since nerds don't go out. ratings fall since the same number of people are watching it, but most are DVR'ing and the networks still can't count those people well. The show is cancelled and the prophecy that the crappy night time soap will do better is self fulfilled.
The one thing that has bothered me about this show is why hasn't the Visitors told any Humans their species' name? And why hasn't anyone asked what do they call themselves? They just go by "The Visitors". With all of the studying Anna has done you would think she would have come with a cute and cuddly name to give to the Human's as their race's name.
@mekki: Their species name is probably just unpronounceable, or, its such a hissing-clicking noise based on reptilian mouthparts, that it would be a dead giveaway.
@mekki: exactly! like with the whole "the UN has agreed to forge diplomatic ties with Anna". seriously? "with Anna"? that's it? they don't even ask why the frak she calls herself Anna or if she didnt have the time to at least come up with a human last name? like with the species name, why isnt anyone asking this questions??
@CodenameV: The Visitors isn't a species name. If I were one of the higher ups in the government, I would be asking, "Great nickname but what is your actual species name?"
That does raise the question: why was Anna practicing so hard with her lines giving condolences to her? My guess is that it might be because she needed to get her to trust her enough to LURE her into the mothership first.
A lot of stuff DID happen in this episode, yet somehow the show is still boring.
However, Laura Vandervoort in her undies almost made up for all the ridiculous plot contrivances.
@omgwtflolbbqbye: Now if the blond girl had wanted to mate with the slubby guy we really would have know she was an alien (or a actress trying out for According to Jim)
@omgwtflolbbqbye: I'm pretty sure this is a casting accident, but the fact that the V-gal Tyler has the hots for just happens to be a skinny, blue-eyed, gorgeous blonde, just like his, you know, Mom, would be a fun place for the writing to go.
But as I've said before, this level of subtlety/depth is not what I'd expect from the show given what they've done so far.
My favorite scene was the montage of Anna preparing for what she'd say to the "Cindy Sheehan wannabe" and how she got the tears flowing. This lady is EVIL, man! I wonder what she said to her, if she made a deal or really convinced her she was sorry.
Liked the "Fifth Column Says Hello" bit... V's have some crazy hallucinating/transporter like technology and I think that would be pretty handy for the Resistance.
And I was sad that the hot blonde was just playin'. They are definitely honoring the original mini, where the V-Youth dude courts the human girl just to see if they can make a hybrid baby. This is not as much of a "reimagining" as it seems.
I can't believe they are not going to air more episodes until March. It's a show worth waiting for though.
I'm not happy about it, because I'm kinda liking the show, but I predicted 8 million for the second episode. It was actually 10-something, but it looks like we're in the 8s for last night. Will it come back after the hiatus? :(
@cylon_conspiracy: I see now it says 9.26 million, where originally it said 8.9. It's bad because the premier had over 14 million. That's a pretty big percentage drop, and it came in 3rd behind CBS and NBC this week.
Edit...This stinks. Now when you view a reply to a comment, there is no way to get back to the original article. You can see the comments, but not the article at the top.
@CSX321: I'm guessing the fact that everybody knows it's going on hiatus after only 4 episodes is preventing viewers from committing to another serial. Heck, that's how I'm feeling now (except I've already got it set to record and too lazy to remove it :P )
@Wesley Street: I don't like her true, mostly because she made her "rep" by titillating lefty geeks with references to butt-seks, and pimping a book for an admitted prostitute (Washingtonnienne). I do like reading smart liberals - even when I disagree with them, they make me think - Cox not so much. She's basically the Left's Rachel Marsden (i.e. both somehow manage to be boring and batsh*t insane at the same time). #v
I could get the "Obama bashing" ref, I suppose. Seemed a little ham-handed, especially when they interposed alien-Anna's calm message with crazy resistance guy's ramblings.
I found the dialog pretty bad. The characters were pretty difficult for me to like, especially the teenagers. I especially couldn't understand the priest and his deal with God and aliens.
The narrative felt rushed and choppy. There didn't feel like there was any real chemistry between the actors and it made the human race (at least the representatives of the human race in New York) seem pretty gullible and stupid.
Can't say I'm tempted to watch more of this.
Oh, and our secret weapon? That line alone made me taste bile. Saaaaaapppy....
I know I'm late to the party but I only just got to watch the pilot...
It's not "Obama bashing" per say it's just pointing out how willingly humans will follow any leader that promises them the moon and the stars. For the dems it's Obama right now (whom I still have hope for but admit am deeply disappointed in that nothing has really changed) and in the 80's it was Regan for the conservatives. Regan's campaigns were all about hope and change and all that.
They used UHC because it's topical. That's all. And it wasn't the Vee who said it it was the "talking head" reporter who spun it that way.
Anyways, the show was way rushed and I had a hard time with everyone buying the aliens as purveyors of awesomeness so quickly.
I also didn't get the priest's assertions that "this is the perfect time to come with all of us in turmoil." Ugh, humans are ALWAYS in turmoil and it's ALWAYS the perfect time to come. We're always divided and in fact I'd say this isn't as terrible a time as it was, say, 5 years ago or any other time. I just hate when people get all melodramatic with the "this is the worst place we've been in yet!" stuff without stepping back at other times in history.
Well, considering that this version of V was written well before Obama got into office, I'd have to say that it's all coming out of the blood-starved brainds of these ultra-right-wing nutjobs. #v

I do wish it was faster. That way they could make the events and invasion grander:

That's assuming that 8 million is strong ratings. (edit) syfy says it was 9.3 million. That's bad?
