How about there unproduced screen play Carnivore. Ranked as one of the best unproduced scripts ever made. A superb plot and the brothers could do a very dark and twisted tale of it and maybe catch the coattails of the fading Saw slasher flick fandom.

Hell Cast My Chemical Romance and The Used as part of the hungry crowd and you already have the Emo kids helping you break even.

@Scroggzilla: But why remake it? The original stands on its own to this day. Remake any of the sequels - we all know "Godzilla Raids Again" or "King Kong vs. Godzilla" could be better - but the original? No... let's not head down that path again.

@Geoffrey Sperl: Not a remake. Just a new G-movie, with our scaly friend returned to his original, nasty, default setting. With a new foe...maybe you've heard of him...Cthulhu.

I'd love to see the Wachowskis team up with David Mamet and JG Ballard for an original screenplay that is neither cyber- nor steam-punk.

    um...'formerly much missed ILM'?

    you mean these guys:

and Weta Workshop DOES NOT do VFX - they build models and armor and stuff...it's Weta Digial that does VFX.

as for them opening up their own VFX shop...that's what Cameron did with Digital Domain - then he sold his stake...having a bunch of VFX guys around might be cool (ie me and my friends) but running a very difficult business isn't.

as for what the Wachowskis should do next is find a producing partner who will tell them "NO" some of the time...creativity is fine, creativity + restraint is better.

John Gaeta handled the vfx for the Matrix films and for Speed Racer...Wachowskis had influence to be sure, but why the assumption that they did it all?

    @slaine17:

Personally, I'd give Gaeta ALL the credit, as he started doing this stuff before the bros came into the picture. He was working on these things for the crummy "What Dreams May Come".

Too bad he can't direct, as his segment in the "Trapped Ashes" showed.

@Plague: Actually Gaeta rides the shoulders of others and takes credit for everyone else's hard work. I personally worked with him on the Matrix sequels and he barely has a clue what's going on. He tells FX artists to put the "whoosh" in there, use "sonic light" and " put more infinity in there" then goes back to Hollywood to act cool and trim his facial hair for the interviews. Those are direct quotes by the way.

When he would force us in one direction, months later the brothers would hate it and he would blame the artists. Sorry but to hear someone say Gaeta deserves ALL the credit it makes me want to puke.

Didn't Matrix Reloaded do $800 million and Matrix Revolutions $400 million? I'm not sure I'd count either of them as commercial failures. In fact, there was some strong talk about a fourth movie for a while even after the critical mauling the two sequels received.

I think what they need to do next is what George Lucas has needed ever since 1977: to do a low-budget project where the limitations encourage their creativity instead of them having enough money to simply answer every problem with, "CGI it,".

@Adam Whitehead: The Matrix sequels were completely critically panned, though they did well commercially.

I'm not into having the Wachowskis do a low-budget flick without their awesome visuals. I loved Bound, but I want to see them transforming Hollywood not Sundance.

There were 2, maybe three big action scenes in Watchmen, by my count. The Fight between Comedian and his attacker in the opening, and the Jailbreak scene. Both were done very well, and had great styling in my opinion. I'm not exactly sure what you think the Wacho's would have done differently in those sequences.

@Jacks Bloated Payroll: They would have made the sequences memorable. Those fights were terrible ripoffs of the Wachowski style. I would make an exception for the scenes in jail, which I thought were extremely well done and needed no help with the ruling.

Fight scene with Ozzy at the end? Yuck and double yuck. Lack of squid fight? Well, that's not an effects question, so I won't add my QUADRUPLE YUCK. Oh wait sorry I just did.
