Kate Does The Right Thing |

But this episode was shot earlier than just last week. And the dialogue was written even before that. The writers are really in tune with this stuff. I have a great deal of respect for their effort to communicate that.

And that Kate looked HOT in that nice skirt in the grocery store.

For one thing, they sure did hype up the big secret of where Kate went in between leaving the docks and then agreeing to go back to the island. Jack: "Where's Aaron?" Kate: "Don't EVER ask me that!"
Ok, but when the big secret is, "I left him with his grandma," that's a bit of a let-down.
The Miles/Hurley stuff redeemed it though. And as soon as they took young Ben to RA, I realized that Ben needed to get shot, because however RA heals him is what initiates him into the island's secrets. So of course Ben has been manipulating Sayid into shooting him all along.

In other news, I really like that they didn't over sell the Kate/Aaron story, didn't try to make it overly complicated. The simplest answer was that Aaron was with his grandmother. It's where he belongs, and it was the right thing to do. (It fits in nicely with the running theme in the show about people being where they "need to be"). Kate is always making incredibly bad decisions, so seeing her redeem one of them was a nice way to show how the character has progressed off island, and with this season winding down quickly, a satisfying conclusion.

It just bugs me that the writers decided to make a big, deep mystery out of something that wasn't. It's not like there aren't plenty of actual deep, dark mysteries to go around on Lost.

Well, when the big secret is, "I spilled the beans about the whole O6 lie, and by the way, Claire's mother is now going to be doing anything she can to get her daughter back from the Island," it sorta holds bigger importance.

I'm assuming that Charles is Widmore.
I know that Ellie is the girl that Dan seemed to recognize but is that his mom or the girl he put in the comma? I'm thinking its his mom (if its even really his mom) which would explain why she was so eager to get them back to the island.
Are they in charge of the others together or separate? If Richard doesn't have to listen to them are they even in charge at all? That little throw away line was one of the more interesting parts I though.

Ellie is Eloise Hawking, who is supposed to be Faraday's mother, who trained Desmond about his special power, and who located the Island for Ben. Everything else is speculation at this point.
As for Richard, I always had the idea that Richard stood a bit outside the chain of command. If Ben issued a direct order, he abided by it, but he was constantly initiating deals that Ben, in turn, went along with. It's like he lets other people assume control so they'll be the ones who have to suffer any consequences, while he's high enough in the heirarchy to run things if he really wants to, but pass off all the blame.

If this was real life, it would be a horrible and traumatic thing for a child to endure.

Poor little Aaron, first Uncle Jack goes away, now mommy makes him ride all over creation in the car, then she splits for some unknown amount of time, he's all alone in a room and some stranger with a funny accent is looking after him.
Kid's going to be as f'ed up as Ben.

Since when has Ben EVER volunteered any pertinent info unless it benefited him somehow?

But he wasn't expecting to wake up to see that great Locke smile.

I may have missed something, but I don't understand why everyone assumed that Ben doesn't remember being shot by Sayid. One thing I've been picking up on is that Ben is a sneaky dude, and doesn't always say everything on his mind. It's a subtle trait, but look closely, and you will see that it's true.
However, once Richard said that Ben would forget everything that happened, that kind of settled that.

Wait, I got this...no...not that one either...um...give me a minute...it's coming...it's coming...nope. I got nothing.
@Leland Rzepecki:
That would be a fairly simple description of _non-linear_ time. Since time is linear in the Lost world, the title says it all. What happened happened. Sayid's line doesn't match Ben's line, but both of them have experienced the exact same events that they always had. The only person who _might_ be able to change events that have already happened is Desmond, but it's more likely that all he's able to do is see how events could have played out if what happened didn't happen after all. It's kind of a Last Temptation of Christ sort of thing, as far as I'm concerned, until such time as we're clearly told otherwise.

Charlie should have died a bunch of different ways, but not the way that he actually died. There should have been a huge air pocket trapped in the upper half of the room (everything above the topmost edge of the porthole that Patchy blew out with the grenade).

I know the writers have been working really hard to make her sympathetic, but I still don't like her.
