Sculptor <a href="http://carlvturner.blogspot.com/">Carl Turner</a> has created a series of half-realistic, half-fantastical mounted animal heads that were seemingly poached out of a Dr. Seuss book. According to Turner's <a href="http://carlvturner.blogspot.com/p/lost-fauna-of-scoffers-island.html">back story for this project</a>, these extinct specimens were acquired by zoologist Erasmus P. Jiggins and Sir Bartholomew Scoffer during an 1863 expedition to a lost island somewhere in the Pacific: <a href="http://io9.com/5884593/dr-seuss-taxidermy-is-equal-parts-disturbing-and-charming" title="Click here to read more about Dr. Seuss taxidermy is equal parts disturbing and charming">More&nbsp;&raquo;</a>

The latest installment of the eccentric <a href="http://io9.com/5838944/a-day-in-the-life-of-a-pet-mummifer"><em>Midnight Archive</em> web series</a> focuses on Sue Jeiven, an anthropomorphic taxidermist who creates tableaus of dead animals having a jaunty, decidedly human time, à la famed <a href="http://io9.com/5837290/if-beatrix-potter-ran-hell-it-would-look-like-this-taxidermy-museum">British taxidermist Walter Potter</a>. While some taxidermists are meticulously <a href="http://io9.com/5065732/natural-history-museum-stuffs-animals-for-climate-change">preserving our animals for future generations</a>, others prefer to color outside the lines of their chosen art form, creating bizarre and monstrous creatures better suited to nightmares than museums. <a href="http://io9.com/5330870/creative-taxidermy-fuels-your-cryptozoological-nightmares/gallery/" title="Click here to read more about Creative Taxidermy Fuels Your Cryptozoological Nightmares">More&nbsp;&raquo;</a>

Meet Chuffy the mouse and his cyborg guinea pig time machine. This taxidermy creation is a BoingBoing find, and it captures the best of a new scifi subgenre I hope will soon catch on: Techie Cutie Creepy. Has Pokemon already been there? <a href="http://io9.com/5048743/cute-time-machine-overload" title="Click here to read more about Cute Time Machine Overload">More&nbsp;&raquo;</a>
