This week's New Yorker features a new story by the master of postmodern alienation, George Saunders. In "Escape from Spiderhead," a man named Jeff serves as a guinea pig for a love potion... and then things get really weird. More »

A new method for detecting the levels of amyloid proteins in the brain, a key feature of Alzheimer's Disease, lets researchers figure out if a drug is reducing their prevalence, as one new drug has done. But there's a catch. More »

For $149 dollars, Atlas Sports Genetics will test your child’s DNA and send you a report listing the sports where your child is likely to succeed. Some parents see it as a way to steer their child toward an activity that is a good match for their abilities. But psychologists and ethicists fear that assigning your child a sports orientation will do more harm than good. More »

American Gladiators returned to the airwaves this season, bringing us one step closer to reality television featuring amped up posthumans beating the ever-loving crap out of normal folks with real weapons. While the Gladiators are using padded Nerf-esque weapons now, we can only hope that later they'll be given bladed weapons and clubs to attract more viewers. Yesterday NBC announced that they've been testing all of the gladiators for steroid usage. Why are they persecuting these innocent pharmaceutical cyborgs, who are only trying to evolve? <a href="http://io9.com/344883/posthuman-mutants-penalized-for-evolving-on-american-gladiators" title="Click here to read more about Posthuman Mutants Penalized for Evolving on "American Gladiators"">More »
