The Dark Knight returns to the cartoon world in Beware The Batman

This week, we are treated to the debut of Beware the Batman and the return of DC Nation! Is Beware the Batman the mature super-hero show fans have cried out for since the cancellation of Young Justice?

TMNT, Adventure Time, and Regular Show are scheduled to return next week. As always - minor spoilers ahead!

Avengers Assemble – "The Serpent of Doom"

Doom takes a piece of Thor's homeland for himself this week, brandishing Jörmungandr (at least I think it's Jörmungandr...) on the front yard of the Latverian Embassy. As Doctor Doom summons the Serpent of Midgard to Earth, Thor throws himself headlong into the chaos.

Beware the Batman – "Hunted"

Beware the Batman is a different spin on the Batman mythos, returning to the character's detective roots.

Bruce Wayne teams up with former secret agent/current butler Alfred in the series take on a number of villains from dark and rarely visited corners of the DC Universe, including the V for Vendetta-inspired Anarky.

The premiere pits Batman and Alfred against Professor Pyg and Mister Toad (creations of comic book scribe Grant Morrison), and introduces a non-Robin, female counterpart to Batman, Katana.

Gravity Falls – "Dreamscaperers"

This episode definitely takes a smidgen of inspiration from the third installment of the Nightmare on Elm Street series. Dipper and Mabel dive into Grunkle Stan's mind to combat an evil drummed up by Lil' Gideon, resident Child Psychic.

Transformers Prime - "Persuasion"

Optimus squares off against Predaking this week, while the Autobot Ratchet is captured and viciously interrogated by Megatron and Shockwave.

Futurama – "The Inhuman Torch"

Zapp Brannigan desire to quench his thirst causes a mine collapse, trapping a group of miners and sending the crew off to the Sun and to an ominously named Doom Chamber.

DC Nation Shorts – "Wonder Woman, Part One"

The return of DC Nation also signals the beginning of a whole new set of DC Nation Shorts. If the first, featuring Wonder Woman, is any sign of things to come, I'm excited.

Teen Titans Go! – "Tower Power"

Beast Boy short circuits Cyborg's innards during a late night movie marathon, as this week we find out Cyborg's only weakness (the rebuilt teenager is not waterproof) and that none of the Titans are certified electrical or mechanical engineers.

Ultimate Spider-Man – "Venom Bomb"

Within the super-hero rulebook (written by Lee, Kirby, Shuster, Siegel, and more over a campfire, with amendments by up-and-comers over the decades) there are certain clauses allowing for unusual team-ups, with this episode being an excellent example.

An attack from the combined might of Green Goblin and Venom calls for an unusual team-up — Spider-Man and Doctor Octopus join forces. Tom Jones should write an episode about this episode's title.
