During the short six-to-seven-week life of a factory-raised broiler chicken, the bird is crammed into close quarters with thousands of other chickens selectively bred to mature at an unhealthily fast rate. More »

Hollywood loves to give us happy endings — but often as not, when the good guys scrape a last-minute victory in the face of incredible odds, you're left wondering how long it'll last. Maybe part of the reason why that victory seems so miraculous is because it'll never work. More »

Wachowskis Teaming Up With Natalie Portman for a Space Epic?

Natalie Portman was supposed to star in Alfonso Cuarón's Gravity before she dropped out and was replaced by Sandra Bullock. But now that Portman is coming back from her maternity break, she's reportedly considering starring in another spacey movie — the Wachowskis' Jupiter Ascending. Or at least, the Wachowskis are actively courting her. What is Jupiter Ascending about? Nobody really knows — although rumors were circulating a few months ago that it's about Earth colonies at war. Let's hope this really does have some huge space action scenes, and Portman's post-Black Swan clout actually gets it made. Oh, and let's hope there are no long scenes of Colonel Sanders explaining Philosophy 101, too. This Friday, the prequel to The Thing comes out, and we're going to get to find out all about what happened before John Carpenter's totally self-contained movie. Will Hollywood never stop tacking on prequels to the beginning of movies that don't need them? We asked some of our favorite concept artists, and here's what they said. More »
