The Powerpuff Girls are returning to television in January for a new television special, but Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup won't look quite like we remembered. This trailer shows us the new all-CG Powerpuff Girls.

Sadly, Powerpuff Girls creator Craig McCracken wasn't involved in the production of the special, which airs Monday, January 20 at 7:30 PM on Cartoon Network. Dave Smith (who has written for Powerpuff Girls and Dexter's Laboratory in the past and was an art director on Dexter's Laboratory) directed and Yuki 7 creator Kevin Dart (who recently worked on Steven Universe) art directed the episode, which reunites the original voice cast and features Ringo Starr as "Townsville's most famous flamboyant mathematician." Here is the synopsis from Cartoon Network's press release:

In "Dance Pantsed," why is Mojo Jojo kidnapping a mathematician, an opera singer and a badger? To steal Chemical X, of course, and to finally take over Townsville. But when the Powerpuff Girls thwart his plan, he invents an evil video game called "Dance Pants R-EVILution" to control their minds and bodies to fulfill his evil plot! The Professor must visit his dark dancing past to save his girls so they can save all of Townsville!

I don't know if I just find the CG a bit jarring after watching so many episodes rendered in 2D, but I'd personally rather see a 2D-animated episode featuring the new character designs:
