The Terminator Saga is Officially Being Rebooted!

Check out the first clip from Pacific Rim. Learn one possible reason why Mary Jane was cut from Amazing Spider-Man 2. A live-action Captain Planet is coming! Paul W.S. Anderson says Resident Evil 6 films this fall. Julianne Moore could join Hunger Games. Plus hints about Under the Dome and Person of Interest. Spoilers!

The Amazing Spider-Man 2

An inside source explains why Mary Jane, played by Shailene Woodley, was cut from the second installment of the series:

Emma Stone’s character dies in the next film and that really would take a bunch out of the film if Spider-Man all the sudden starts dating a new girl so close to an important characters death. They were noticing this occurring as they filmed Shailene’s scenes. They want to make the death of Gwen Stacy really mean something and then it will leave room for Shailene to shine in the third film.

Star Wars Episode VII

The British tabloid Metro is reporting that Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill have been ordered to lose weight prior to the shooting of Episode VII. Supposedly both have been given a personal trainer and nutrionist as part of the production cost. The source is quoted as saying:

‘Mark and Carrie need to be as close to their appearance in the earlier movies as possible. Producers are keen to help out and have offered support. The budget is huge so there will be no expense spared.’

Apparently they are happy with Harrison Ford. Take with the standard grain of salt since none of these stars has actually been confirmed as returning yet.

Terminator

The Terminator franchise is officially being rebooted, with the first movie coming out on June 26, 2015. Despite the use of the term "reboot," the Deadline report still says Arnold Schwarzenegger will be back. And the hope is to get at least two movies done before the rights revert to James Cameron. The press release for this "stand-alone trilogy" is below:

Skydance Productions, Annapurna Pictures and Paramount Pictures have jointly announced they will partner on a rebooted “TERMINATOR” movie, to be released by Paramount Pictures on June 26, 2015.

The first in a stand-alone trilogy, “TERMINATOR” will be produced by Megan Ellison of Annapurna and David Ellison of Skydance. Dana Goldberg and Paul Schwake of Skydance will serve as executive producers. Laeta Kalorgridis (“Avatar,” “Shutter Island”) and Patrick Lussier (“Drive Angry”) are attached to write the screenplay.

Launched in 1984 with star Arnold Schwarzenegger as the title character, “TERMINATOR” spanned 3 subsequent films, which have earned over $1 billion at the worldwide box office.

David Ellison most recently executive produced, along with his partners at Paramount, “World War Z,” “Star Trek Into Darkness,” “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” and “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol”. A 5th installment of in the “Mission: Impossible” franchise is in active development, along with a 3rd film in the “G.I. Joe” franchise, among other films.

Megan Ellison most recently produced the Academy Award®-nominated “Zero Dark Thirty,” “The Master” and executive produced “Spring Breakers” via her Annapurna Pictures banner and has David O. Russell’s “American Hustle,” Spike Jonze’s “Her,” and Bennett Miller’s “Foxcatcher” set for release later this year.

Resident Evil 6

Paul W.S. Anderson will begin shooting the next Resident Evil movie this fall with a planned release date of Sept. 12, 2014. Anderson explains the appeal of the movies:

“I think the undead genre really plays to primal human fears. That kind of stuff never goes out of fashion. The themes of a zombie story are always good; they make for good filmmaking.”

Transformers 4

Marc Ganis, president of production company Jiaflix Enterprises, describes how prominent a role China will play in the upcoming Transformers movie:

"The film has a great deal to do with China. Effectively, China is a character in it. So much of the movie takes place in China and the character [Li Bingbing] plays is a Chinese national. So it's a very natural position for her to have."

Person of Interest

Actress Amy Acker muses on the chance of her character Root returning:

“I was really happy that I got the phone call [from The Machine] at the end so I feel like they have to at least bring me back. The Machine and Root have a very special connection — at least in her mind. So it’s either perpetuating her fantasies by calling her or [something else]!”

Continuum

What is coming up in Continuum:

Asked to tease the Season 2 finale, which airs Stateside in late August, Lexa Doig, who plays Liber8’s Sonya, shared, “We all got very good at miming. And that’s all I’m going to say.” In the more immediate future, Doig previewed the arrival of The Freelancers (a group that will “raise a lot more questions” and provide “an extra ingredient into the soup that messes everything up”) and teased, without naming names, “a guest performance that is absolutely out-of-this-world amazing.”

Under the Dome

The Originals

Actor Daniel Gillies (Elijah) discusses how The Originals will differ from The Vampire Diaries and hints at new lovers:

Man, if you quote me on that, [the new lovers], the fans will hate it! They really develop these allegiences. They really hate hearing that anybody new could come on the scene. Blessedly, there's a kind of amnesia with fans. They'll remember a certain character or romance until somebody sort of supplants that who's also really great. Then, they're content to forget.

But I think that the show is darker, more adult. I think that there's going to be a lot more enchantment and magic to it, because of the New Orleans setting that we have to fulfill. And I think that we're going to see a lot more warfare. Kind of strategic... it's going to be a battle to reclaim this kingdom. A borderline mafia type battle with Elijah and Klaus usurping their former kingdom.

Doctor Who

Moffat has asked Chris Chibnall back for season eight. Last season, Chibnall wrote the episodes “Dinosaurs on a Spaceship”, “The Power of Three” and ”P.S”. Chibnall says he’ll return if he can get away from his show Broadchurch:

If we can get the schedules to work I will write for series eight, but obviously Broadchurch is my priority and that’s no small commitment. If their schedule and our schedule can work together then I’ll nip in and do one. Steven has asked and that’s very nice but it will just depend on the detail of schedules.
