This egg is worth more than your car

Up for auction next month at Christie's South Kensington salesroom: this "very rare and complete" sub-fossilized elephant bird egg. Its estimated going price? Between $30,000 and $45,000.

The famous auction house says the oversized ovum measures 12 inches long and 9 inches in diameter at its widest point, which makes sense; elephant birds – which were hunted to extinction in their native Madagascar by the 17th century – were among the largest birds to ever walk the Earth. For reference, here's an elephant bird (in purple) standing around 10 feet tall beside a human, an ostrich, and some non-avian theropod dinosaurs. "Elephant bird," indeed.

We know it's a subfossil and all that, but maybe Daenerys could hatch it? Seriously, someone needs to buy this thing and throw it into a fire with Emilia Clarke. See what happens.
