X-Men: Apocalypse

Speaking with Cine Premiere, Bryan Singer discussed a few characters he'd like to bring into the next X-Men movie:

I'm considering Gambit and potentially a young Nightcrawler for 'Apocalypse,' I was going to have Nightcrawler [in 'Days of Future Past'] and even wrote a scene, but I felt that we were forcing too many mutants into the story.

The Hobbit: There and Back Again

Phillipa Boyens said that splitting the dwarves up in the second movie has ramifications for the third:

We made that decision [so we would] experience the attack on Lake-town through the eyes of people we've come a long way with. We wanted some of the dwarves to understand what happened in that firestorm, that holocaust that rains down upon Lake-town. Bofur (James Nesbitt) comes more into his own in the third film. A rift begins to open up. And I can't say much more without going into spoilers for film three, but it's primarily because we needed him to be there when the dragon attacks.

She also discussed how far along they are in finishing the film:

I can legitimately say right now that the third film doesn't exist. Pete's cutting it. As an entity, it's coming together. Actually that's not true - we have a rough assembly, so to speak, of the shape of the film and the performances. I am excited, because one of the storylines I care a lot about is the Thorin one. . . . Richard Armitage is extraordinary, as Thorin descends into madness.

Warcraft/Mass Effect

Legenday Pictures CEO Thomas Tull explained why it's taken so long to develop a Warcraft movie and what their goal is for a Mass Effect film:

Frankly, our attitude from the beginning — we have an amazing relationship with the guys at Blizzard, and they care very much about their universe as storytellers — if it were just the game, we would not have known how to make Warcraft, which is a video game experience, into a movie. But, because they've done such an incredible job of building out the lore — they have something like a hundred books — there's a real story and deep history behind the characters and races and everything. So that's really what we mined and got into. Like, what are some of the main characters that make this such an interesting universe, and what are the stories that we want to tell? We were finally able to get a script and story that we felt was incredibly compelling, and that's how we're able to get a director like Duncan Jones...

[Mass Effect is] another story that we love, and it's incredibly sprawling and complex. We're not going to screw up Commander Shepard. That's another one of those things where we're being a little bit precious about it, but unless we feel like we can absolutely crack it and know what the movie is, we're just not in the position where we have to make stuff just because we have to. That's the way we treat every one of these. I'm a huge Mass Effect fan. I play. I'm personally a fan of all these different things, and we don't to screw them up, so that's the way we go into these. The bar is very high, and that's just our approach.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2

MTV has a ton of info on the involvement of Oscorp, which Andrew Garfield describes as "like Hell. It's the big, corporate overlord that's ruining our world." The goal of everything Oscorp does is to save Norman Osborn (Chris Cooper) who is dying of a mysterious illness. Says director Marc Webb about Oscorp and Harry Osborn:

Everything about Oscorp has been built to extend his life, one way or another, whether it was literally through the science they were creating, or through wildly unethical research.

. . . Harry is very intelligent but he's forced to confront certain issues about himself — biological issues — that will pose very serious problems for himself, Spider-Man and Peter.

David James Kelly has been hired to write the script for the next standalone Wolverine movie, which Fox is reportedly setting to release on March 3, 2o17. [Deadline]

Game of Thrones

EW has a huge cover story about Game of Thrones this week. Among the many new details:

  • There are combat scenes in season four that aren't in the books – in previous seasons, they added mostly conversations that aren't in the book. But this time around they needed to add some extra fight scenes. However, there's no scene where someone rides on a pig, because that would be cruelty to animals.
  • They built an all-new version of the Wall for the massive battle sequence in episode nine, directed by Neil Marshall, and then set this bigger version of the Wall against the largest greenscreen in Europe.
  • "It's just more intense than it has ever been," says co-showrunne David Benioff. The show successfully lobbied for a budget increase from HBO this year. We'll see the "nice" characters make more surprising choices – the season begins with a vengeful killing, and ends with a trio of episodes that are packed with major set pieces. "The last couple episodes were, even by our standards, pretty hardcore," says co-showrunner Dan Weiss.
  • Early in the season, Lady Olenna says, "Killing a man at a wedding. Horrid. What sort of monster would do such a thing? As if men need more reasons to fear marriage." At Joffrey's wedding, Joffrey cuts open a big pie with a sword and tons of real birds fly out.
  • The Hound's new plan is to return Arya to her aunt at the Vale of Arryn – and this is like a "twisted road movie," says Weiss. According to Maisie Williams, Arya will be "learning a lot from the Hound and being heavily influenced by that. She's learning his brutal ways." He becomes a kind of mentor in vengeance and cruelty.
  • Also, it sounds like Tyrion does spend the bulk of the season locked up — thus answering how quickly his storyline from the third book will play out this year. "Reversals of fortune really send him down the rabbit hole," says Peter Dinklage. "I think funny and drunk only lasts so long. He sobers up in many ways. And love is in his life [with Shae] and that causes a tremendous amount of damage, because he's vulnerable and he doesn't like to be vulnerable." Also, Tyrion gets a lot of scenes with Jaime this season and we see that "they have a real friendship."
  • Meanwhile, Cersei and Jaime have a "very dark encounter," says Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, and Cersei spurns Jaime's advances.
  • Roose Bolton returns home and is annoyed to find that his bastard son Ramsay has "pruned" Theon (now known as "Reek") — so Roose gives Ramsay a new mission, to prove his worth. Theon is no longer chained up this season, because he's so broken he no longer needs chains to keep him imprisoned. "It's more of a mental torture than physical this time," says Alfie Allen.
  • Jon Snow has to prepare the Night's Watch for the attack of the Wildlings, but first he has to answer a lot of questions about where he's been. Jon gives more speeches than he ever has before, and is less reactive and more proactive. Meanwhile his ex-lover Ygritte is coldly terrorizing the local villagers. (This sequence of events involving Ygritte appears to be new to the TV series.)
  • And finally, the article says A Feast For Crows and A Dance of Dragons contain a lot of tangential material that is unlikely to make it into the TV show – the clearest hint yet that some of the subplots in those books will be cut or heavily trimmed.

My Fanbase has an interview with Sophie Turner, who danced around answering whether Sansa would be present for a major event at Joffrey's wedding, which was a shocking event for her to witness in the books:

In the books, this certainly would change everything for her emotionally, although she'd still be under control of the Lannisters, especially Cersei so I'm not sure that her life would be too different other than having an emotional burden lifted. However I can't say whether anything like this will happen in the series as the series is just an adaptation of the books and could go in any direction.

Here's what she felt she could share about Sansa in season 4:

I can't promise anything about Sansa's storyline this season. All I can tell you is that Sansa goes through a big evolution this season and there are plenty of changes afoot.

Arrow

Looks like this season's "Bird of Prey" episode will not be the last we see of the Huntress, says executive producer Marc Guggenheim:

We definitely have an idea for a Season 3 episode with The Huntress. So, you'll just have to tune in to Season 3.

. . . One of the things we would love to do, at some point, is an episode where you've got Black Canary, Felicity and The Huntress working together. That's on our show bucket list. One thing I've talked to DC comics about is doing a Huntress series that covers the year that she spent, between Episodes 117 and 217, from her perspective, traveling the world and hunting for her father. All things are possible.

Guggenheim also said that Roy would become Arsenal, not Speedy:

We did it because we want to keep inching Roy towards an Arsenal place. One of the runnings gags is that he keeps getting called Speedy and says, "I don't like that nickname. Come up with another nickname for me." When the time is right, eventually the nickname that will stick will be Arsenal, but the time has to be right.

The Walking Dead

Danai Gurira spoke about Michonne's bond with Carl, saying:

I think they've reached an understanding. I think there's something really great about how Michonne gets Carl and she really has a strong heart towards him, because he's the young man that perhaps her son never got to become, but he's also a young man who's really figured out how to handle himself in this really hostile world and so she just has a really massive heart towards him and wants the best for him and wants him to be… when she was going out finding The Governor, she was bringing him back whatever she could find just to keep his life in a way where he could have treats and things that might really lighten the load of the life he has to lead in this realm, but she also really respects how he handles himself, so it's a very true friendship because she has respect for him and I think he feels that.

He feels that 'she's not treating me like a kid' and I think the idea that she's even able to share her story with him, just goes to show how much – you know before she shared it with anyone else, including Andrea, no one else has heard what she tells him in that episode and I think that is a real portrayal of a true friendship there. You'll have to ask him why he digs Michonne, but I think they really just find a real, great connection and they both understand that they've been through some stuff and now he really gets that about her as well, when she's lost people close to her just like he did and I think that's something he's really able to connect with her on. But I think the fact that she doesn't really treat him like a kid to some extent and I think that he really likes that.

Yeah, especially as he struggles over that so much with his Dad and trying to constantly prove he's a man…

Yeah there's no battle with her, you have to have that battle with your parent as you're trying to find yourself in your teens and whatnot, but he doesn't have to have that battle with Michonne, you know it's always trickier with the parent – the parent always gets the worse end of the stick from the kid, no matter how hard they try!

At the PaleyFest panel, Danielle Campbell explained who Davina's allies are and what her place with the witches is:

Cami and Josh are the two people who she can trust, who have her back, and that she can always turn to. Other than that, I know Marcel always has her best interests at heart. Whether she knows it or not, he'll always be there for her.

. . . I think the witches need her, and she knows that that makes it a safer community for her. They are her family, regardless. Though she may not trust the witches, she needs them, too.

Phoebe Tonkin also talked about Hayley's arc:

Throughout Hayley's life, she's longed for a family and loyalty and people that care about her. For 20-some years of her life, she's not had that. Now, she's been thrown, smack dab into this dysfunctional family, not just of the vampires and the Original family, but this werewolf family. She's just in shock. She wished for all these things, but it's all coming true at one time. Now, she's trying to work out where her loyalties lie and what she wants to fight for. The best part about Hayley is a fighter, and she's always been a fighter. Now that she's not just responsible for herself, but she's responsible for a child, she's a woman on a mission to protect her baby and protect what she thinks is right. That's been really nice to explore, the second half of this season.

And EP Julie Plec previewed the end of the season:

Will the witches, werewolves, vampires and humans be butting heads in the finale?

PLEC: Yeah. What we're building to is Elijah trying to build peace in the city, which I think everybody individually wants, but they want to be the ones in charge of that peace. So, they're all working against each other, even as they try to be on their best behavior. We'll soon learn that the witches have a plan. We know that Klaus is up to something with the werewolves. With the human faction, we're just starting to get to know this woman, Francesca, and what her whole deal is. It's mayhem, leading up to the finale, where everybody is individually making their moves and building up their own armies, so to speak, as they try to take control of the Quarter. Within all that, drop in a woman that's nine months pregnant and a family dynamic that's been very, very deeply fractured, and we'll see who's left standing at the end.

Will there be a delivery by the end of the finale?

PLEC: There will be some birthing, by the end of the season, for sure.

Is there anyone we should be most concerned with surviving this whole power struggle?

PLEC: I think you should be concerned for everybody. In the writers' room, everybody is really worried about Josh. Will Josh live? I say, "Well, maybe today. Today he can live." And then, the next day, just to mess with them, I'm like, "Josh is a goner, you guys. Josh is a total goner." Until that last word is written on the last page of the finale, which is what we're doing right now, it's too soon to tell.

At PaleyFest, EP Caroline Dries said that viewers would see Strefan and Elena "as we've never seen them before," while also describing the scenes as "nostalgic."

As for Caroline and Stefen, Plec said:

Caroline and Stefan have a lot to do together in the next couple episodes. They go through some stuff together.

If they were still on the same show, [Klaus and Caroline] might have a brief moment of something, I feel like Caroline Forbes is such a crucial element … on The Vampire Diaries. I think taking her off that show would be very damaging to the show. Right now, Klaus has [his own] s–t to do.
