Guardians of the Galaxy 2

Badass Digest has some very grounded speculation about who Star-Lord's father will turn out to be. They point out that Quill's mother describing him as an angel bathed in light is not a good description of the Spartoi, the race that J'Son, Quill's father, belongs to in the comics. Plus, James Gunn kept the father's identity under wraps during filming, which doesn't make sense if it's the same as in the comics. Badass Digest speculates that it could be a cosmic being, as a way of tying Quill to Thanos' obsession with the Death. Or it could be an Eternal, or Adam Warlock. Captain America 3

We have a few details, courtesy of the Russos, about the themes and time frame of the third film:

[T]he third film, which picks up "a couple years" after Winter Soldier left off. Although the heart of the movie will be Steve Rogers' complicated relationship with his childhood friend Bucky Barnes, the themes of politics and power will still be in play. "The character was invented for an explicitly political purpose. So it's hard to get away from that nature," Anthony tells Yahoo. It's also important to the directors that Captain America doesn't become another disillusioned antihero. As Joe sees it, "his morality is part of his superpower."

Legend of Conan

Fredrik Malmberg, a producer, says that this sequel to Conan the Barbarian and Conan the Destroyer is on schedule to be made:

We want to polish up the script, specifically about the characters, but we don't think it will take long. We'll probably have this turned in around September after the holiday and then we'll take it to the studio and if they're happy, we can hopefully start (production) in the Spring (2015).

He also said that the plan was for Arnold Schwarzenegger to do this film after Terminator 5:

"That's the intention," says Malmberg. "Arnold wants that. I would like that and I know everyone from the studio side would like that but it's all in the script. We need to get the script where it's right and ready to go. In the movie world, nowadays, when a movie is a go movie, it happen very quickly. It's up to Universal to set the date for it to be released but personally, I don't think it has to be a summer movie. I think there's plenty of examples of big event movies being released in the winter like the Matrix movies and The Lord of the Rings. I can see this being a winter movie as well as a summer movie. This iconic role of Arnold as Conan is so big that it can be year round."

Terminator 5

Speaking of which, this film has been doing some shooting in San Francisco. In a number of locations. Last night, the film was around California Street and Powell Street, "using stunt cars and motorized cable cars to create chaotic city scenes."

Meanwhile, Mission Street between First and Second streets "will be closed to shoot a scene in which extras flee "something computer-generated."

They've also filmed at Bay Bridge and the Golden Gate Bridge, which seems to indicate that the film will be set at least partially there. [SF Gate]

Extant

Looks like the Halle Berry show is in trouble: in the wake of disappointing ratings, the show's season finale has been moved from the high profile fall premiere week, and is being replaced with a Survivor/Big Brother double-header. [Variety]

Outlander

TV Guide visited the set of the upcoming new show, getting star Catriona Balfe to describe her character:

"Claire is a fish out of water," Balfe says during a break in filming. "She's incredibly fierce, passionate, stubborn — a very modern woman even for the 1940s, so what's wonderful about her going back to the 1700s is that she's also representing women of our time."

It also sounds like they're doing everything they can to be book- and period-accurate:

A faithful script by executive producer Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica), whose wife, Terry Dresbach, introduced him to the books, helped finalize the deal. "It was the first script based on Outlander that didn't make me either turn white or burst into flames," Gabaldon says. "It caught the spirit and the voice of the books."

To bring the story to life, the production headed straight to Scotland. "They have the castles, the landscapes, the artisans who make swords and weapons of that time," says Moore. Some exteriors were shot at Doune Castle, which dates to the 14th century and was also featured in Monty Python and the Holy Grail. For the interiors, producers converted an unused electronics factory into a studio complex. The space houses two soundstages measuring 17,000 and 10,000 square feet; an armory; a props warehouse; a costume shop overflowing with tartans designed specifically for the show and made with local dyes; and a classroom where an expert coaches the actors in Gaelic. "Everyone speaking authentic Gaelic helps me with my character," Balfe says of the language, used often in the series, without subtitles. "It makes me feel like I am truly in a world where I don't know what's going on around me."

But all this authenticity comes at a price. "It is a large budget," admits Albrecht. "It's not the most expensive show that's been on Starz, though I have to say, there's not been a better looking show on Starz at any price." And with genre-smashing adaptations like Game of Thrones already having paved the way — and getting plenty of Emmy love — Outlander could prove to be a game-changer for the cable network best known for such culty, but not exactly groundbreaking, series as Spartacus and Magic City.

Sleepy Hollow

Add Sleepy Hollow to the list of shows going with two arcs per season, according to showrunner Mark Goffman:

We have 18 episodes [in season 2]: we're running 11 in a row, and then seven, starting in January. So we're really looking at is as two halves [of story]. The season is a complete story, and it's full of chapters, but we're building towards a much bigger cliffhanger to leave people on with episode 11, and is one no one will see coming.

He also teased new character showing up in the second half, who he would only describe as "It will have supernatural abilities." [Give Me My Remote]
