Sometimes galaxies don't just <a href="http://io9.com/5314431/one-galaxy-smashes-into-four-others-at-2-million-miles-per-hour">smash into each other</a> &mdash; sometimes they just tear each other apart with their gravitational forces. Check out this new Hubble image of NGC 1911 in the Coma Cluster, being torn asunder by neighboring galaxies. <a href="http://io9.com/5609871/a-galaxy-tears-the-spiral-arms-off-its-neighbor" title="Click here to read more about A galaxy tears the spiral arms off its neighbor">More&nbsp;&raquo;</a>

Our neighboring Andromeda Galaxy may look benign, but it's really a massive cannibal, sitting surrounded by the undigested remnants of the galaxies it's eaten. European scientists have mapped the galaxy anew, and found stars that came from elsewhere. <a href="http://io9.com/5352122/andromeda-surrounded-by-the-remains-of-the-dwarf-galaxies-its-killed" title="Click here to read more about Andromeda Surrounded By The Remains Of The Dwarf Galaxies It's Killed">More&nbsp;&raquo;</a>

Stephan's Quintet sounds like the name of a nice jazz group, but this galactic cluster, discovered 250 years ago, is actually one galaxy passing through four others at nearly 2 million miles per hour. Hence the long tails. There are moments when I think that science exists purely to blow my puny human mind. Take galaxy NGC 4622, for example. For years now, astronomers have wondered about the fact that it seemed to be moving in reverse, spinning towards the direction of its spiral arms instead of away from them. Now a new analysis of images of NGC 4622 has revealed that there's more to the galaxy than thought. Namely, it may be deformed because it swallowed another galaxy. <a href="http://io9.com/342520/when-galaxies-collide-and-then-eat-each-other" title="Click here to read more about When Galaxies Collide!
