Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice

Castmember Harry Lennix (Dollhouse) confirmed his involvement, and said that some of the rumors he's seen on the Internet match up to the script he's read. Lennix told ScreenWeekTV:

And you can find out a lot more about it, then I'm able to say anything about, because we signed contracts, by going onto the Internet. Because a lot of the fans have more information about it than I have, and I can say that some of it seems to be informed. I don't know where they got the information, but it is a great script. And I think that people will not be disappointed. And I can say that I'm looking forward to working with Ben Affleck again. I've worked with him before, did a movie called State of Play with him, met him, very nice man. And I know that Henry is going to do a bang-up job. This sequel will not disappoint in any way.

Great, so now we have to try to figure which of the rumors we've heard are true. Good thing there's an almost infinite source of them. See the interview below. [via Comic Book.com]

The images from the set of Ben Affleck as the older Bruce Wayne has raised questions about just how much older Batman's supposed to be. And while executive producer Michael Uslan has said similar things before, once again he explains defends the decision to make him in his 40s:

"We've been through this I don't know how many times already," Uslan said. "Every time a director makes a creative, out-of-the-box-thinking decision on casting, it tends to get this. I remember even the 'Iron Man' guys got it on Robert Downey Jr. initially.

"Of course, we got it intensely when another genius, Chris Nolan, chose Heath Ledger to play the Joker. And it was a huge outcry: 'How can a guy who just played a gay cowboy play the Joker? You're going to destroy the greatest villain ever, this is going to be a laugh.'

"So, this has happened time and again, and it happened with Affleck. To go back to the original thought of Bruce Wayne in his mid-40s, I think he's going to be extraordinary."

Which Marvel Project Is Vin Diesel Teasing Now?

Marvel

Vin Diesel cannot stop teasing us. The latest is a post on his Facebook page with a picture of Groot and the message:

Vin and Marvel... you all made it happen!

I get the strange feeling that Marvel thinks I'm Inhuman... Haha.

Of course, the capitalization on "Inhuman" is a Marvel tease for fans, and could tie back to Diesel saying that Kevin Feige offered him the part of Groot because it wasn't a part that would wait until "2017" and has previously said he was up for a part based on a "Fresh IP," so that could very well be the Inhumans. [Facebook via Slashfilm]

We know that the Infinity Stones and the Infinity Gauntlet are in the cards for a future film, and we've seen guesses about which ones we've seen and when we'll get the rest before. But for more informed speculation, we turn to Comic Book Movie. Marvel's confirmed that the stone from Guardians of the Galaxy was Power and that the tesseract is Space. And people have thought for a while that Loki's staff is Mind. acorsi11 at Comic Book Movie disagrees with the guess that Thor 2's Aether is the Reality Gem. He thinks Marvel's been laying clues that it's Soul:

1. Both Adam Warlock's Cocoon, the man famous for having the Soul Gem, and the Aether are in The Collectors museum on Knowhere.

2. The Soul Gem is green in the comics, but the Aether is red in the movies. This doesn't matter because the other revealed Infinity Stones are different colors than what they are in the comics, and some are even different shapes.

3. Peope [sic] may say that the Aether doesn't have the same abilities as the Soul Gem in the comics. All of the Infinity Stones in the movies so far have been quite mysterious, so maybe Adam Warlock will be the one to finally unlock the full potential of this stone.

The guesses go on to say that Time may be in either Ant-Man or Age of Ultron, since there are flashbacks with Peggy Carter in Age of Ultron and rumors that Ultron uses the Time Gem to get his hands on vibranium. On the other hand, if Ant-Man, despite everything we've heard, does connect Hank Pym to Ultron, the Time Gem could connect Ant-Man to the Avengers.

Finally, the last gem (be it soul or reality), could be in Doctor Strange. acorsi11 thinks it could be in the Eye of Agamotto. [Comic Book Movie]

Star Trek

Simon Pegg says that he supports Roberto Orci as the director of the next Star Trek:

I'm really happy he's doing it as it's kept within the family kind of thing, it's not somebody coming in from outside.

... Bob's been there since the first Star Trek - by that I mean the 2009 one - so it seemed to make perfect sense that he come in as a director on this one because he gets it.

He was always the most Trekkie of all of those guys anyway, he's always understood the story the best so it's great that he's going to be involved in the writing and directing.

Fire and Ice

Robert Rodriguez is ready to proceed with a remake of Ralph Bakshi's Fire and Ice, which he announced plans to do in 2012. Assuming of course, that the project is still the Frank Frazetta-inspired film he's making. He got coy with Comic Book Resources, saying:

Comic Book Resources: Are you getting closer to doing something cinematically with the Frank Frazetta works?

Robert Rodriguez: Yeah, I am! I can't say what, but soon we'll announce some stuff. We're really excited right now. Can't say anything yet.

And yet, he describes his goal as adding himself to the dynamic between Frazetta and Bakshi:

You know, I knew him very well, and I grew up with his work on my walls. I understood. I've talked to him at great length about what people did incorrectly when they tried to adapt his work but they didn't get it. He would complain about comics and stuff that were done that were just really violent, and he said, "They didn't really understand my work." So really, I would do it in a way where it was as if he was there with me. I would be watching it from his point of view. I understood his point of view, I think, better than anybody was ever going to try and do a movie. So I would want his spirit there, and I'd be looking out for him in that. I would almost consider giving him a co-directing credit! You know, I'm going to do it like I did with Frank [Miller], so much in just turning his paintings into movies. When you're doing that, you're no longer just adapting and making it your own. You're really trying to do what he did. And unfortunately, he tried do it — he did "Fire and Ice." It didn't get there because the technology, it was never quite what he wanted.

I'm trying to help complete that vision for him — like, be that third collaborator, between Ralph Bakshi and him — Ralph's one of the producers on it — to try and use technology to catch us up to finish what they started.

Assassin's Creed

Michael Fassbender is not leaving the project. He told IGN:

"I know, I love these rumors!" he exclaimed. "It's fantastic. People talk about it, and they're hopefully interested. Nothing has changed, yeah. I'm still a part of Assassin's Creed, and we're working on the script as we speak. Actually, I'm going to go back and see the writers when I get back to Europe."

He also talked about making the film distinct, but still clearly in the same world as the game:

You know, we absolutely want to respect the game. There's so much cool stuff in the game that we're actually spoiled for choice in terms of what we can use and what we can't, but we also want to bring new elements to it and perhaps our own version of things that already exist in the game. But we're definitely making a feature film, and we're approaching it as a feature film, as opposed to approaching it as a video game. But I love the world.

The Boxtrolls

The Boxtrolls features the human boy, Eggs, who was raised by Boxtrolls. He encounters a human girl named Winnie, and co-director Anthony Stacchi elaborated on what the girl is doing in the Boxtrolls' world:

Winnie's father is very much an absentee father. Consequently, she's sort of has these daydreams. She's obsessed with the gory details of what Boxtrolls do with the children they kidnap. She imagines the Boxtrolls doing it to her parents.

Sir Ben Kingsley plays the film's villain, Archibald Snatcher, and he says his character's motivation is based in the desire for upward mobility:

He is a social climber. It's as if he spends a lot of his energy trying to join that club that doesn't really want him to join. He wants to be a central part of the mayor of the town and the people surrounding the mayor of the town. It's a small, exclusive clique that runs the community and he desperately wants to be part of it.

Doctor Who

We've got a few details about the new Doctor's first outing. First we have a description of an early scene:

He and Jenna Coleman, who plays sidekick Clara, explained one of the opening scenes was the first one they filmed, as he emerges from the TARDIS for the first time bleary-eyed.

"It was frightening. The atmosphere was a little tense," he said

The brilliantly bewildered expressions of Capaldi are not put on, at the time he was still learning who he was and how he would play the character.

But it didn't take too long.

"We did two takes and on the third take he popped his head out the door and something in me thought 'And we're off'. There was something there," says Jenna.

We've also heard about this season's slower pace, with a scene from the premiere setting that tone:

Another wonderful scene sees him with Clara in a restaurant. Without giving much away, in a rare move for Doctor Who, for 5-10 minutes they simply sit and talk, as Clara gets to know the new version of her Time Lord.

It is a beautifully written scene. you just really surf through it all," said Capaldi modestly.

"It was good because Jenna and I are getting to know each other.

"It charts Jenna and Peter getting to know each other as well as the Doctor and Clara."

In addition to locking in Peter Capaldi for season nine, we also know that, like season 8, it'll all be aired all in one go: no season splitting. [Digital Spy]

Game of Thrones

J.J. Murphy, who joined the cast as Ser Denys Mallister, passed away at the age of 86. He had completed a week of filming on the new season of Game of Thrones and will be seen in the upcoming Dracula Untold. HBO released a statement from Game of Thrones' showrunners saying he would not be replaced:

We will not be recasting J.J. Murphy. He was a lovely man, and the best Denys Mallister we could have hoped for. And now his watch is ended. - D.B. Weiss and David Benioff

[Coming Soon]

While some people expected that Mance Rayder's plot would be scrapped from the show, we now know that at least some of it is going into season 5, as Actor Ciarán Hinds told The Irish Post:

On Game of Thrones I have not yet been roasted, crucified, slaughtered or whatever they do with people in that show eventually, so I will be coming back for shooting again in the fifth series.

Star Wars Rebels

Executive producer Dave Filoni says that the show will live on fringes of major events in the Star Wars universe:

We started this Rebel activity back in Clone Wars with an arc called "The Onderon Arc." Where we see the Jedi empowering local military groups to fight back for their own little planets. And in George [Lucas]'s big scheme, it was these small groups that began the fledgling rebellion against the Empire. So we have this much bigger architecture of a plan that this is all setup against. So the same way you hear in A New Hope, "The Imperial Senate has been dismissed," we don't see any of that stuff. They just say it. There are these bigger things that we've thought out in the background, but we would like to stay focused on our characters.

Filoni also explained how the show's villain, the Inquisitor, fits in with the established history and timeline of Star Wars:

Now in Star Wars lore, Obi Wan says Darth Vader hunted down the Jedi. But you guys have introduced another villain, The Inquisitor. Why introduce a whole new character to do the same thing? Especially when we already have a Sith Lord apprentice thing with Vader and the Emperor. Now you add a third character into the mix. Talk about why and how it's gonna work.

I think for me the main idea is that, again, when Obi Wan's saying these things to Luke, he's trying to get them explained. And he knows it's gonna come from Vader. And it's very specific to Luke. And that's his destiny. The Inquisitor, is he even around at that point? Who knows?

Sure.

But it was reasonable to believe that, looking at a galaxy, there were 10,000 Jedi in The Clone Wars. That number's been diminished. How do you find them? Where do you find them? I'm sure Vader is involved in hunting down Jedi all the time. I'm sure that right after the Clone War, when the remnants are very visible and the Jedi are all trying to figure out what happened, that he was luring them into traps and wiping them out several at a time.

At the point we are, so many years later, they are so few and far between that I don't think he would follow up every lead. Because one of the things that's muddled the whole operation, in my mind, is kids being born that can use the Force. The Emperor and Vader don't really want them around either. But they're so unnotable, you needed a group of hunters, attack dogs. And so we have an Inquisitor that goes out and hunts these guys down. Now if he was to hunt a guy down, let's say he's somewhere on Tatooine and he runs into Obi Wan Kenobi, probably the Inquisitor won't survive that. But if he did, he would call Vader up and go "You better get out here."

When it was pointed out that Kanan is a Jedi Master and not an untrained or simple user, Filoni kept explaining the Inquisitor's relationship to Vader:

So I have to believe that, as it went along, Vader got entrusted with more and more important missions, hunting down those stolen data plans. Stuff like that. And the Inquisitor is left to be this kind of hunting dog. He finds you, he analyzes you, even by fighting against them, saber to saber, he's learning about you. Who taught you, where you came from, how old you are. Sometimes what your name is. Because they have all the records and he's meticulously studied them. So, you know, he can break down pretty quickly who Kanan is just by fighting him in a lightsaber fight.

American Horror Story

Patti LaBelle will add to American Horror Story's cast of divas, even if she's not going to be singing. She'll play Gabourey Sidibe's mother. She's a local townsperson, not part of the circus, and LaBelle will be the one to start unraveling the secrets of Twisty the clown killer. [TV Line]

Outlander

An early review of episode 2 says that, now that Claire's in the past, the show moves a bit quicker and some things from the book are altered to increase drama. Here are a few lines from episode 2:

  • "Just never forget that you are English in a place where that's not a pretty thing to be."
  • "I ken who she is. I've never spoken to her though."
  • "It was like landing on an alien world you've only glimpsed through a telescope. Then you begin to wonder if life on this alien world is not so different after all."
  • "Does Colum know?"
  • "What kind of corset is that?"
  • "Perhaps you don't ken his mind."
  • "She's just a girl with spirit is all. That's always a good thing."
