Thai art students decided to create a mural with some epic superheroes... plus Adolf Hitler. Officials at Chulalongkorn University have apologized, but said the students didn't realize including Hitler would offend anybody. But what I really want to know is, what is that cool duckling saying?
According to the Associated Press:
The billboard was up for two days before being removed Saturday in response to criticism. Online photographs showed graduating students in their robes, mimicking Hitler’s raised arm salute.
Suppakorn said that freshman art students had painted the banner as part of a traditional send-off from incoming students to the graduating class, and it was one of dozens of banners and billboards across the campus during the university’s commencement period.
Apparently Hitler isn't supposed to be one of the superheroes in this picture — hence him being in grayscale instead of color — and he's supposed to symbolize the fact that there are good and bad people in the world. The Dean of the college explained to AP that "Hitler was supposed to serve as a conceptual paradox to the superheroes." But the students copying Hitler's Nazi salute does sound a bit... disturbing. In any case, not the superhero crossover we wanted. [via NY Daily News]
