That flick nailed the "what is reality?" theme, extrapolating it out to more decimal places than any film in recent memory. Gore and goofiness aside, eXistenZ was the first and only movie to explore visually what it would actually be like to go into a virtual world. No swirling vortex, no pixie dust, just a two-phase non-sequitur cut followed by a look of utter confusion on Jude Law's face. Perfect.

Comparing "eXistenZ" unfavorably to "Total Recall" is, well, evidence of impaired recall.
