Voted for Farscape, though Firefly would also be a good choice. Bothe have the same drawback: a movie/miniseries that wrapped up the storylines satisfactorily. Hard to do anything after that without reinventing the entire concept, just about.
May I suggest a second poll after this one closes? include the top votegetters from this one (without Firefly, it's just running away with it here and would do the same a second time around - no need), and some of the omitted ones that have been mentioned? I'm still p***ed at NBC for cancelling (well, not renewing) Journeyman, so please include it in the new poll!

JDMB

Max Headroom was fun but I liked others better. V (as mentioned by Amphitrite) was very good. I voted for Firefly but would love to see some continuation of the Farscape universe...perhaps a few years later where the young Dhargo (I think I spelled that right) has now grown up and wants to find out more of his ancestry...aka Earth. Quantum Leap would also be good but Scott Bakula is too old now even if he was good on Enterprise.

Nate

@Lampbane:
What might have been, is a big part of the sense of loss Browncoats feel. However each episode was incredible. The characters, the dialogue, the 'verse they live in is a world many can easily relate to. I could be a passenger aboard Serenity.

I saw Firefly when it aired and I watched Buffy and Angel and gave Firefly a chance only because of Joss. I was confused at the way Joss decided to start the show in the middle of an action episode, no intro no set up it was very unlike Joss. Later I found out that was not the episode Joss intended to be first. However it was during the Train Job that I fell in love with this show. It just grabbed me.

Its not just about what could have been but about what we felt aboard that ship, following the crew and connecting with a character or 2. I think the diversity of the characters is great. I gives everyone someone they can identify with.

It seems that you either get it or you don't. Sorry for all of you who don't. Those that do know what a special show it was and continues to be as we rewatch the episodes.

Of course I voted for Firefly. However I still want more of Earth 2 and I also remember V.

Rosalita9899

I can't even for the life of me understand why some of you see fit to dis on Firefly. If you "watched a show and didn't get it" then do it the right way: Buy the DVD set and watch it from the FIRST show, so you can enjoy the character development in the correct fashion. After all, this show, unlike so much CRAP that's out there today, was totally based on strong characters, compelling story lines, eschewing special effects and bullshit aliens for more tangible things like unrequited love, die hard loyalty even in the face of certain death, family. YES 'FAMILY' GODDAMMIT!! For many of us, the crew of the Firefly became, if only for a few hours, our dear dear family, and it was good to partake in their kinship. My life was shiny, if only for a few, few hours. Fox network can die - die and go to hell, courtesy of Mr/Mrs Garrison. Because of how it ended, Joss has been quoted as saying that he will not ever consider TV as proper medium for the show again, although he does have planned a sequel (or two) for Serenity.

Now I realize that this kind of thing is subjective and personal as hell, which is why I would never go around dissing YOUR fave TV show, no matter how lame and storyless I found it to be. Have some f$#@ing respect, people, because without respect and honor, we make ourselves lower than dogs, and open to judgment by Hannibal, which is a plate of justice I do NOT want to be served today, thank you very much!

Cheers.

banmojo

However acclaimed firefly may be, it's poll result is surely going to be boosted because it (and it's movie) are more recent. This means it naturally has a more active fanbase with still-high hopes for revival. Many of these fans came off the backs of cancellations such as Farscape, the Star Trek franchises, and other notables, looking for a fix, myself included.

But true to my roots, I voted Farscape :)

aaron87

"I've heard--from Mike & Joel, so I assume there's something to it--that MST3K might be making a return."

Regarding MST3K, there are 3 official offspring of MST3K that are in the works right now:

- Rifftrax, a venture headed by Mike Nelson allowing users to purchase MP3 audio tracks of Mike and special guests riffing current movies -- watch the movie and play the mp3 along with it

- MST3K.com - some weird relaunching of the MST3K name from Jim Mallon and other Best Brains allumni. Currently features strange flash cartoons of the robots.

- Cinematic Titanic - probably the most interesting and newest version, it's a new company started by Joel Hodgson, and features much of the original MST3K gang, including Mary Jo Pehl, Josh Weinstein, and Trace Beaulieu. Their first movie, The Oozing Skull, is available on DVD now.

samuelk

My biggest problem with Firefly is how people seem to judge it on what it could have become, not necessarily what it was. I loved Buffy the Vampire Slayer to bits, but if it had been cancelled after the first season I would not have been surprised, and if anyone were to gush about how brilliant and amazing and unique and ahead-of-its-time it was, I would have laughed at them. The first season was weak. I admit this.

Firefly's first and only season was hit-and-miss. It could have gotten much better, but it never got the chance and we can't judge episodes we haven't seen.

Lampbane

Lord, Browncoats... I like Joss Whedon. I like sci-fi (or I wouldn't be here), but Firefly. Its not THAT awesome. It has just enough "empty space" in its universe for people to fill in with their own imaginations, the key ingredient for any deep fandom, to draw the passion... but really people. The show was flawed from the get-go, even without Fox screwing over the scheduling.

Buffy (and Angel) worked because they let their ensembles grow organically... Firefly started with nine freaking characters on the ship. NINE! Lost has more castaways, but how many were we really asked to care about at first? Three: Jack, Kate and Sawyer, four if you count Hurley.

How many Buffy characters were we asked to care about at first as principles? Three: Buffy, Willow, and Xander, five if you count Giles and the "Big Bad" of the Master. And yes, I KNOW just how many of the future-Scoobies and other characters we would come to know and love were in that episode, but they barely had lines. That's what made the show cool, it rewarded you by honoring its world while not trying to exhaust you with its personalities.

Anyway, Firefly should've been left off the poll, its skewing the results and isn't really old or dead enough yet. And for the record I have a mad crush on Jewel Staite.

TheN

Firefly! Are you kidding? There's no need to even ask this question. With legions of loyal browncoats, and the addition of a network that doesn't screw the show at every turn, (Maybe scifi?), the show would be a success.

And a second vote for Earth 2. I loved this show and would have liked to have seen where it would have gone.

I saw a vote for Wonderfalls in the comments, and I have to give a vote for that show too. Why do all the actually good, well written, well acted shows get canceled?

jdroepel

Well, since you *asked* my opinion, I have to say that, in my view, every show on that list sucked worse than a Hoover, with the exception of MST3K. How I laughed at that show! It makes my sides ache just remembering it. And I'm so glad some one remembers Space:1999. I don't think it needed a better premise (people on a moon base hurtling through space falling through time and space warps - what could be better??). It didn't need better special effects. What it needed was better writing. The episodes drudged on like toe fungus. If you could get thru them, they were brilliant.

JohnW

I have to go with Firefly, because it was unjustly short-lived. Forever, I don't know. But I trust that Joss Whedon is sitting on heaps of fantastic material that never did (and now probably won't) see the light of day.

However, I have always wondered what happened in Sliders' naked world. That's definitely one of my clearest memories of that show. I didn't vote that way because, well, we saw the directions it was going towards its end...

papercup mixmaster

Firefly was good, was it a bit overratted, maybe... but like Cowboy Bebop you could watch those shows going on forever.

SpaceAAB was nice at first but it got heady and weird FAST. I could have done without the whole conspiracy plotline.

Farscape was another that was gone before its time, but they wrapped it up good enough to make any future episodes not nearly as good.

MST3000 is back in spirit with both Mike and Joel having websites devoted to what they where doing on the show

Personally voted for Farscape, though, because honestly, they replaced it with TREMORS. And now Flash Gordon.

Lampbane

it's not as if the story lines have to be terribly coherant. so what if the lexx died? so what if kai is alive? couldn't we do a "it was all just a dream" thing that negates the whole fire and water thing?

nutbastard: Don't blame me i voted for Ron Paul edition

I barely remember Misfits, except that I remember loving it.

I thought Buck Rogers was the better show, but I didn't love it as much in that irrational way.

The newer ones...not enough time has passed for my nostalgia to kick in. And Quantum Leap has essentially been remade a dozen times since, just with slightly different names and characters.

But what I really wanted was a 2nd season of the awesomely-awesome Invasion! Who's with me?

Nobody? Not a single person?

(I really did love that one season of Invasion....It got better and better as the season went along and was better than Lost that season. I miss it.)

92BuickLeSabre

I like the idea of an older Courtney Cox playing an older TK. She could be the mentor of the new Misfits. Farscape, MSTK3K (check out [www.rifftrax.com] if you really need a fix), Firefly. Yeah, I think that'd keep me busy for awhile.

Ed Grabianowski
