I agree Extensionofbob, it was a bold experiment, I just felt that the way it was advertised, particularly at cons, and the way the film actually played were entirely different. I went in expecting it to be a serious attempt at science fiction/horror, but found the characters ridiculous. If I had gone into it knowing it was intended to be funny, that would have been different. There's nothing about the cover of the DVD edition that suggest it is a comedy (partially because it's not in English). It's just packaged as a serious horror film, but inside it's not really. It would be like going into BioZombie expecting a new, bold attempt to reinvigorate the zombie genre with a serious film...

Um.... this is a screen from the first Host movie. Your wording is weird, but implies that this is a scene from Host 2 featuring the same monster from Host 1. Which it isn't.

@Arconna: While not the most piss-in-your-pants frightening movie ever made, I think what truly made this movie stand out was the ease with which the tone would shift. This is what actually increased the suspense for me: not knowing at the next moment whether I would be pissing my pants with laughter or bawling my eyes out. I was surprised to find myself becoming emotionally invested in these absolutely ridiculous characters.

But in the end, different strokes for different folks. I would argue that it was a ballsy experiment, if nothing else.

@Annalee: Actually, it was the Vampire Flying Suplex during the fight at the end that was the high point of Blade II. Even better than ninja Yoda.

Their first film was Sin City and The Host i believe was the second.
The Orphanage new Animation Studio is working on the Power of the Dark Crystal; the sequel to the 1982 fantasy film The Dark Crystal.

I don't quite understand the obsession with Host. I saw it at FanimeCon 2007, bought it, and watched it with more focus at home with my brother and neither of us were really all that impressed. It wasn't scary and in a lot of ways the characters were just sort of ridiculous and stupid. We couldn't figure out if the movie was bieng serious, being funny, or being serious about being funny about itself. I know everyone else seems to love it, but I think it's one of the most overrated films of the decade. The only thing that impressed me was the fact that it did so well and that it at least looked professionally made considering its origins...

Better yet, the Host monster hauled ass for a fish.
It kind of reminded me, sorta, of the fish with mechnical legs in Futurama that Dr. Wurmstrum (WURRMSTRUMMM!) taught to fetch while wearing a reverse aqua-lung.

The monster's actuallu been the image on at least one post.

But as for the trailer ruining things, I totally agree! I almost dread seeing anything but a teaser, because it reveals too much plot. Leave it an enigma,so that my $9 is well spent.
