@MrThunderfield: That could also mean that Jack was so shitfaced drunk that he didn't remember that his dad was dead. Obviously it was a writerly trick to make you think you're watching a flashback, but in no way is the question resolved one way or the other.

"So is Jack's dad alive?"

At least he's alive in the flashforwards (the flashbacks from the S3 final episode where jack was shown in the future, off the island). Jack was drunk at the hospital and said to his boss to "bring down my dad and if he's not more drunk than I am you can fire me".

You don't catch this the first time you watch it, as you don't know it's in the future, but a second viewing will sort you.

Moeskido: Damned if I can find the story now, but I remember reading a piece about these mobisodes in the NY Times about a month and a half ago in which it said the producers reached a deal with the writers for these scenes. I believe they are getting paid--though I don't remember how good a deal it is. I hope someone else here can confirm.

While I'm a huge fan of the show, I don't think most of these "mobisodes" (??) really qualify as "missing pieces," with the exception, maybe, of that last one.

Unless of course there's a significant contingent of fans out there who've been distraught ever since Arzt blew himself to smithereens, because that pretty much put the kibosh on our ever learning his (surely luminous) backstory. If so, perhaps now they can sleep through the night without medication.

I enjoy the lost haters that watch 2 or 3 episodes total. I hated it too till I did a season 1 marathon. Now Lost is my crack. BSG is still my meth tho.

Thanks for the recaps! The integration of so much extraneous material was another thing that soured me on Lost.

Considering these are "promotions," has ABC been claiming that writers for these webisodes don't need to be compensated similarly to their regular production work?

I recall a bit of a stink over the similar preview material made for Galactica's third season.
